  1. The Inomata ice tray works well for me. Compared to Kokubo, the Inomata seems made from a highly hydrophobic plastic. Had I a choice I would have preferred the somewhat smaller cubes from Kokubo, but nothing I can't deal with. Not like the crisis of 1973 in Kenya. The tour operator radioed to base: "Send ice trays!" What arrived by truck, days later, were ashtrays.
  2. Odd, I thought is was safer to run it not too full. I always kept the water level above the minimum. I reported the problem to anova, we'll see what they have to say. I miss @Anova Jeff. I fear he stayed in Bora Bora.
  3. No... but I work part time in a library, Vacche Rosse is what I buy more often.
  4. No Costco within walking distance. Nearest one I know of is about 45 minutes away by car. Is their Parmesan particularly easy to grate?
  5. Forgive me, I realize I already had an earlier thread about grating Parmesan... https://forums.egullet.org/topic/154311-portioning-parmesan/
  6. Cut slice from round loaf. Cut slice in half.

    Dinner 2021

Last night my dinner was a Berkshire chop. Thanks for sparing me from having to post a picture.

  9. When I ordered Everything Kitchens had six slicer attachments in stock. Now they have three.
  10. Japan and the US plus a few other countries have a postal treaty that allows this to happen.
  11. Though I doubt most establishments are pulverizing the 105 euro per kilo stuff that I am using.
  12. Thanks, I already have everything I (currently) want on order.
  13. As much as I love my Cuisipro box grater, grating Parmesan is getting too hard for me. Granted that if I use an appliance I will have to figure out a way to break off a piece to grate. Maybe a use for my Parmesan knife!
  14. To my remembrance I have never attempted a latke nor any kind of potato pancake. But I am excited. I have ordered a shredder with a potato grating disc. When does one use grated potato and when does one use shredded potato for a pancake? Any other recipe suggestions? Given, forgive me, that I have not read through this whole thread.

    Dinner 2021

    What spatula, please?
  16. As I mentioned in the cheese grater thread, Ankarsrum attachments are currently hard to find. Anyone on the fence should probably order now.
  17. By way of an update, I've been grating my Parmesan by hand. I confess I never once tried the new Cuisinart grating disc I bought. The Cuisinart still works but the spindle appears cracked and I don't want to put unneeded stress on the part. Last week when I grated some Parmesan I became frustrated with the aptly named hand grater. For a long time I've been wanting the grating attachment for my Ankarsrum. Because of the pandemic Ankarsrum parts have been almost impossible to find. The US distributor has a page of anticipated restocking times, looking at next summer for some and no idea when for others. To make a long story short, I couldn't buy just the attachments I wanted. Pleasant Hill Grain had stock of an expensive combination set that includes the grater as well as a blender and a citrus juicer. I already have a Blendtec and two citrus juicers but I suppose redundancy is always good. I also had my eye on the Ankarsrum shredder/slicer set that should be good for vegetables and softer cheese. Pleasant Hill did not have stock of the shredder/slicer, however I found them at Everything Kitchens, which is where I bought my Blendtec. Pleasant Hill is experiencing virus related shipping delays, but the shredder/slicer should be here next week. For anyone thinking about Ankarsrum attachments now might be a good time to order.
  18. Try Amazon Prime Now... Whole Foods shows pomegranates available.
  19. She was baking in a college dorm, so I'm not sure the silicone was her own personal silicone.
  20. I looked at the jalapenos today in Shoprite. They certainly were huge. Personally I prefer serrano and purchase serrano whenever I have a choice.
  21. I so want to love Darto and am tempted. But I have reservations. I own three Darto pieces. When they arrived I seasoned them religiously. The paella seasoning was removed after one paella. (Tomato tends to do that.) Worse, the pan warped when I tried to make tortillas. Now all three of my Darto pieces have rusted even though they were initially well seasoned. As best I can recall the two smaller Darto pans had never been used for cooking. I bought them with the idea of employing them in the CSO. By contrast my Falk frypan is 2.6 kg and has neither rusted nor warped. Should I be tempted by this sale?
  22. I never cared for cottage cheese (somehow I associate cottage cheese with canned peaches). But what I really loved was junket. I'm sure there must be junket recipes in these books.
