I think one of the problems of being hangry is that your brain shuts down. You may have a pantry full of tasty snacks and a refrigerator full of lovely leftovers but you cannot possibly conceive of how any of this could make a meal. What I’m saying is you really need to keep a list of your answers to a quick meal. Keep it on the fridge or tacked to the inside of a cabinet door.

That story of popcorn just sounds a bit much to me. Here. The recipe for popcorn soup sounds like full out cooking to me not something for the seriously hangry. But we are all different and we all have our own idea of what we mean by “a quick meal”. (Full disclosure – – there are few things I hate more than popcorn.)

Yes. But I was trying to overcome the limitation of your 30 inch range - allowing you 3 pans on it and a 4th on the stand-alone.

You are very definitely entitled to your opinion. But cheap, canned sardines on toast have saved my bacon as it were many times over the years.
-
Yep. If I start eating those sardines I would have to revise my understanding of sardines as a source of cheap protein. I don’t know that I like them well enough to spend that kind of money.

Yes. This way we are not likely to read about your amputation(s). We would much rather read about some of the amazing meals that you make. At least I would.

For various reasons @Kerry Bealand I could not fit in lunch this past weekend. However, she was kind enough to drive me to an appointment today and stopped to pick up some lunch that we could enjoy after the appointment. She tried a fairly recently opened Bahn Mi restaurant in Hamilton. Kerry had chicken. I had beef. We also enjoyed a couple of fresh salad rolls. The bahn mi did not compare very favourably with our usual local Bahn Mi place. Both meats were a little on the tough side. The pickles did not have much oomph. But we were both hungry and glad to have something waiting for us when we got back. I put part of mine away for later.

Here’s a link to one of the Be-Ro baking booklets. I can still call one to mind that was so well used I think every page was stained and some were glued together with jam!

Well I don’t see anything quite as attractive as you are able to source. But I found this and multiple ceramic mugs with lids designed for instant noodles. Too ugly to even contemplate owning though.
-
Two things — I have to take you down from your pedestal where I had you firmly esconced. Instant noodles — you? Never. Then I have to admit that you find the neatest things. I eat lots of instant noodles and would love this.

I hope you are both carefully checking the expiry date on the salt you are using in these guns.

I always thought of it as Indonesian but my search suggested that it’s not quite so circumscribed in reality. No worries about the accents on my account! I am lucky to land a few French accents in the right places. Although I knew something about the names of the various noodles I did not know that soups were named for the noodles so that is another fact I can add to my limited knowledge of Asian food. I have a very vague and foggy memory of a small jar of sambal oelek among other condiments in a restaurant somewhere. Thank you again.

The operative word being little. Looks quite delicious.

Once again I learned something new. I had to do a little digging about sambal oelek and Vietnamese cuisine. I know how careful you are to cleave as close as possible to a specific cuisine and its ingredients. I admit I had never heard of this in Vietnamese cuisine. Thanks as always.

@Kerala Nice meal. Not often I see somebody willing to indulge so generously in raw onion. Glad of the company. Equally glad there are 3000 miles between us!

Any reason that you cannot supplement with a standalone induction hob?

What a way to start the day! Fabulous.

I have done this in the past to make Danish caramelized potatoes.

Just out of curiosity not out of need thank heaven I looked at the price of a 3 pound box on amazon.ca. It is $19.99 Canadian dollars.

Not the walnut bread recipe although it appears to be available via Google but a lovely selection of recipes from Good Things. Here

If you are a fan of mushrooms then her “The Mushroom Feast” is a classic.

What’s not to love? It looks and sounds amazing. Thanks. I did love her book.

You make some amazing meals and there are very few of them that I might spurn (usually something sweet) but right now I would make a fool of myself for just one slice.
