  1. Just as soon as Shelby decides to do the hunting and leaves Ronnie to do the cooking adjustments will surly be made.
  2. And each child is unique. Not every moment has to be an earnest teaching moment. Kudos to you for recognizing the importance of just plain fun. I know it’s a stretch but from what I have seen of the Lopez book I am reminded of the Whole Earth Catalogue. Now that was fun!

    Breakfast 2022

Is Moe a “dunker”? I see that gorgeous soup and that bread and I know exactly how much I would enjoy it but only if I were completely alone!
  4. Thanks very much. I now know more about the logistics of food delivery in a hospital in mainland China than I do in Oakville, Ontario, Canada! My hospital has a huge food court with multiple different offerings but I never ever figured out how to get it moved from there to my room. Nor did I ever discover how to get a pizza delivered from outside the hospital and this was even before Covid factored into the equation.
  5. Can you say something about the logistics of this when you are in a hospital bed? Is it delivered directly to you in your room? Are there no Covid restrictions? Or is it delivered to a nursing station and then to you? Thanks.
  6. That is exactly where I ended up when I was doing my research! It is quite beautiful and relatively uncomplicated. But I will enjoy it vicariously. But I can admire what others do.

    Breakfast 2022

Great breakfast idea. I think we visited that one before in some fashion. Must add portobellos to my grocery list. I was almost sorry that I posted that link worrying that somebody might think I was buying into the BS. Nonetheless I found it very interesting. Gotta love those ancient Romans.
  8. And this is perhaps the saddest part of it all. For many patients who were in the same hospital where I would’ve starved to death without family and friends bringing food, the hospital food was the best thing they had enjoyed in years. (There was also the man in the next room who, as soon as his meal was delivered, dumped everything into the garbage including the tray, dishes and cutlery, every meal.) I usually just gave mine a decent burial under a napkin.
  9. I felt compelled to look up this technique and learned a great deal. Thanks. Your Babka looks quite amazing.
  10. Don’t beat yourself up! The decorating is fabulous. Your hunter friend will have a great time as will all of us.
  11. To my surprise it is readily available in the GTA. Here. As the only Toronto-based member of the Pinsa Romana Association, it was clear that a re-brand for his current smokehouse was necessary. In the fall of 2020, he purchased a pizza oven and opened up Venga Cucina, taking over at the same Junction address.…. Pinsa Romana is the Ancient Roman pizza. It's a lighter, healthier version of the authentic Italian pizza we've come to know and love. The dough is double-baked and is characterized by a crunchy outside with a soft inside, and is an artisan-stretched oval shape. The word 'Pinsa' actually comes from the Latin word "pinsere", which in Italian, means to stretch and spread. It is no easy feat to uphold the prestigious status of the OPR Association. First and foremost, all flour must be purchased through the Di Marco Company in Italy, where they produce an exclusive mix of flour––the only one that can be used to make Pinsa Romana. For a business to be recognized as an original Pinseria, an expert examiner will have the task of viewing the meticulous procedure of all stages of processing starting from the dough. My bolding (with tongue in cheek). The smarketing is embarrassing! And just in case you were wondering just how much the stamp of the Pinsa Romano Assoc. is worth: Here.
  12. In my house dinner often is the cocktail.
  13. Here’s another take on its origin and a recipe for the dough.
  14. What a lovely film. I didn’t think I would be able to watch it suspecting it would be behind a pay wall. It wasn’t. Thank you so much for sharing.

    Food recalls

Let’s see – – what would you rather? A little foreign matter or a little friendly frog? Here.
  16. But very different. Still bamboo though.

    Trifle report

Such an act may not be judged as morally reprehensible but might offend the sensibility of some… let’s say those with even a sliver of a gene dating back to King Arthur. In other words a Brit of any stripe. But carry on. Best not to waste that trifle.
  18. Guess we’ll have to let him see what he can do. He’s no slouch in the technology department.
  19. But he has an android not an iPhone.
  20. I was not quite sure whether I should post this here or in the “Unexpected food gifts” topic. It was not entirely unexpected because I did ask a friend to look for some mackerel in a can. Not yet sure how I am going to eat it or even if I will like. No idea how it compares quality-wise with others. All in all it will be an adventure.

    Liverwurst

And that may well be the reason. For myself I could not imagine eating it without a little something something. I’m happy with onions, raw or cooked, tomatoes, or pickled beets. Perhaps if I were introduced to a German version of leberwurst I too you might consider this a criminal act.
  22. I think those are the words I used as I prepared them for the sous vide. Over and over again.
  23. I am still willing to bet that the very worst of it would be an amazing improvement on anything I have been fed while in the hospital here! I hope they let you go home soon and that your health is good when you do so.
  24. The pork chop is already in the sous vide and the steak will be going there later today. I will chill them both and put them in the refrigerator until I am ready to sear and then eat them.
