Philadelphia Candy Show 2022 (in Lancaster)
Anna N replied to a topic in Pennsylvania: Cooking & Baking
Oh yes. I so wished we could have stayed a little longer so we could have returned for a second meal there! -
So today @Kerry Bealand I had for lunch what we thought we wanted last week. The Caribbean restaurant was open today and we both got the oxtail with rice. Though I believe while I chose the plain rice, Kerry opted for rice with peas (or whatever those disgusting things are) Could I but see better I might have detected them with my eyes rather than my taste buds. I found this out after warming up leftovers. I have to say that last week’s charcuterie plate was so much better! I suppose I should have made the effort to do a little more exploring of the nature of Caribbean food. The gazillion pieces of tiny, sharp bone fragments just didn’t do it for me. I think of oxtail as being a hearty and filling meal and yet we both found ourselves hungry very shortly after lunch. I don’t know —it just wasn’t the lunch we wanted. Oh and the warm coleslaw didn’t add anything. I could share more photographs of the plated food but you would not learn much more from that. Instead here’s a photograph of just some of the bones. The company, as always, was excellent.

Oh but that hurts! I grew up with that pattern.

I think that is a Japanese custom!

I know there are uncounted variations of trifle but I do hope the discovery of the Dijon did not in anyway tempt you to create yet another.

And I guess @liuzhouis speaking of his experience in mainland China. Perhaps it is a matter of the mainland moving on and the territories clinging to tradition. There are so many examples of this around the world. Diaspora communities cling to tradition while homeland moves on.

There is a smoked cheddar and some Jarlsberg.

Beautiful sunset as always but that moonrise…. How nice to be able to stay a few extra days. Enjoy.

Oh dear. Been there. Done that. But the very fact that you are posting gives me assurance that there has been some successful intervention. May you be back home in your own place soon.
-
I’m sorry but I just cannot imagine doing this.
-
I was a bit suspicious when you did not complete the Wordle game. Get well soon!

You keep us endlessly amused. I know you are a good sport and that I could do this without offending you too much. I understand about the peas.

I must say that although I am quite familiar with cold noodle dishes I’ve never heard of cold noodle soup dishes until now. I might well have made the same assumptions as @Katie Meadow

Thanks. I cannot access the linked recipe because it is behind a paywall but this looks remarkably similar and is by Eric Kim of the New York Times. Here . It is definitely a cold noodle soup.

And the other one – – all mushrooms are edible – – once.

One of my favourites which makes me a weirdo in the eyes of oh so many. 😂 I hope you continue to feel better.

This recipe just didn’t work for me. I followed it except for a few minor things that shouldn’t have mattered. I had to forget the zest and juice of the lemon because my lemon was moldy. I searched and searched under my bed for the herbs but they were nowhere to be found so I had to leave those out. Amazon was out of both furikake and chilli flakes the last time I placed an order. But apart from these minor changes I made the recipe as shown. I found it very disappointing and quite flavourless. Love Jo.

I am surprised you were hungry when you started.

How can something so simple make me salivate so much?

Thank heaven that my invitation got lost in the mail. 😂

What is it about the meal that your brother-in-law had to be “made” to eat it and you not eating it is considered “cheating”?

Dutch city becomes first to ban meat advertising in public spaces

If you ban all mention of something in public I’m not sure how that brings it to mind. -

It would make for a more rounded story if we knew how much beef advertising was happening prior to the ban.
