  1. I like the look of the Norpro better than Guy's; for me 16 oz. is too big. I have some cheapies that I got some time ago and the big problem is they leak around the base of the cap so I have to wrap the threads with a tiny strip of plastic wrap.
  2. Update on the Fissler 4.2 qt. Vitaquick pressure pan. I am deeply disappointed. While washing this pan yesterday after cooking some green beans, I see that the finish is coming off in spots on the outside! I have no idea why. And, my Amazon return period ended a few weeks ago so I will have to return the pan at my own expense and received a pro-rated refund. Because I love this pan and use it so much I will buy a second one but will be watching it closely for signs of defect.
  3. Yep, I'm a big fan of the Rosle as well. I have a couple and they stay really, really sharp. BTW, They make a grapefruit knife that is the best thing ever invented if you are a grapefruit lover. I don't think they make a product that doesn't raise the bar.
  4. I got the Vitaquick, I believe it's a better quality pot.
  5. I have this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001E5CWVU/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1. It's a smaller size and has four heat settings. I also have the All Clad but siince I'm cooking for one or two most of the time, I find I use the Cuisinart more often. It's nice quality and performs really well.
  6. I purchased two Fissler models recently: the 6.4 qt. and the 4.2 at pressure pan that comes with the steamer insert and glass lid. I am WOWED! As a devoted K-R user, I cannot believe the amazing quality of these Fissler pans. They truly are works of art. Beautiful and they perform flawlessly! Completely silent while cooking. And that full size disc on the bottom ensures that there's no scorching. For someone who does stocks, the 8.5 qt model sounds ideal. But I believe it is still out-of-stock at most dealers. Cooks Illustrated is on hiatus now while PBS is doing their fundraising. But it should be back on air soon and the CI pressure cooker cookbook will be out on the 15th. Yay!
  7. Breville Smart Oven! Takes up a good bit of real estate and is somewhat pricey at $250 but SO-O-O-O-O worth it. I rarely use my range oven anymore except for really big dishes. I'd never thought I could get so much use out of a small appliance like this but it really is versatile, it does most everything extremely well.
  8. I wanted to add that I buy my parchment, pre-cut to sheet pan size, from King Arthur Flour. It comes in big rolls and lasts forever. And, they frequently offer it with free shipping.
  9. Agreed. Cleaning the silpats can be a giant PITA. For that reason I mostly use parchment these days.
  10. OMG yes! With her nasal voice and grotesque cackle she'd empty the set. All that while she's groping all the men.
  11. I just would like a 'no children' section. I've had my share of times with little rats at adjoining tables, or on airlplanes or grocery stores...you name it. And I'm not talking a little whining either, I'm talking about full-on tantrums with screaming and throwing and running. Can't stand the little buggers.
  12. Well, it just so happens that I prefer my beer ice cold. Maybe to someone else it tastes better warmer but that doesn't affect me whatsoever. Also, I keep some Stella Artois in my garage fridge for when my good neighbor drops in. That's his favorite beer and I like to have it on hand. (He occasionally helps me out and plows out my driveway in winter.)
  13. I have three cloth towels in the kitchen, two microfiber and one cotton. One m/f hangs on the oven door and is for counter tops, appliances wipe-offs and the like, one m/f hangs on the dw handle and is for hands. The cotton towel is folded and lies on top of the Foodsaver and is for dishes (it gets hung up to dry, then folded). Paper towels are used for food and anything particularly messy.
  14. You can probably discount my opinion immediately because my beer of choice is currently Miller 64...simply because of the low calorie count. I can drink my beer and not feel guilty. It comes in bottles only now. Last summer it was available for a while (here, anyway) in cans as well. I keep a beer glass in my freezer. If I am drinking a can of beer, I'll pour it into my icy glass. Otherwise I drink it from the bottle. If I'm eating out at lunchtime, I'll order a Corona. Occasionally I'll pick up a six pack of Pyramid Hefeweizen. Love that.
  15. Rachel Ray has some burger books. Oh, wait. You said "good".
  16. I expect that the KR braiser was deselected due to its whopping pricetag of $480! I own several KRs and each one is a thing of beauty and performs exactly as it should. One caveat though is the bottom disc. Since it doesn't cover the entire bottom, I occasionally get just a bit of scorching around the sides. The Fissler calls to me for just that reason, the disc covers all of the bottom of the pot.
  17. I'm sure that she's not, but everything about her demeanor screams AIRHEAD!

    "The Taste"

I enjoyed it. but then I like bad boy Bourdain. I can always count on him to entertain and offend.
  19. My PBS station is broadcasting the season opener of CI this coming Saturday (the 26th).
  20. quote: "Read the description on the page below the photo of the cooker, it only reaches 11.6 psi." Ah, yes. That would explain the discounted price. Thanks for pointing that out.
  21. Actually, this year's winner is the Fissler. My ref is to a different model but it is siginicantly less expensive than the Vitaquick. http://www.cooksillustrated.com/equipment/results.asp?docid=41600
  22. I just stumbled upon this http://www.cutleryandmore.com/miu/stainless-steel-pressure-cooker-p125809. It isn't the model that CI recommends but how bad could it be for $60??? It's worth a look.
  23. CI season 13 begins this month. I can't wait, I love their shows!
  24. Cooks Illustrated will have a new pressure cooker cookbook coming out in March. http://www.amazon.com/Pressure-Perfection-Editors-Americas-Kitchen/dp/1936493411/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1358257888&sr=1-1&keywords=pressure+cooker+perfection
  25. I know its been mentioned here before, but Rachel Ray and Guy Fieri and those wannabes? Just shoot me now!
