    Dinner 2017 (Part 5)

How about a nice Salisbury Steak? It's a nice change and can be very tasty.
  2. Tonight I made my lemonade cocktail with white rum, it,s pretty good. Tomorrow it'll be vodka.
  3. So what happens if you use a gift card (say for $100) and you go over that! How do you pay the balance or do you have to drop items?
  4. My membership is up for renewal and I'm thinking that after 20 years It may be time to let it go. I see it's now $60 for the basic annual fee. The mister and I used to really enjoy our occasional trips there and it was always an adventure to find new and interesting food items. Now that he's passed away I find that the quantities are just too big for one person's needs. Often it feels like too big of a hassle to drive over there and shop and then have to unload everything so I rarely go anymore; I think last year it was only two trips the entire time. However, if I do quit I will miss many of the great offers there are. Such as: their meat and seafood are the best the city has to offer. Their beer and wine (no liquor in Montana) selections are better than anywhere else (and priced better, too). I love their bagels, cashews, p-b filled pretzels, empanadas, egg rolls, tissue, kitchen wrap and bags, etc. Oh wait! I may have just convinced myself to continue my membership...there are so many things there that I really enjoy!
  5. Not at mine. I've never seem this cut anywhere, but then I wasn't looking specifically for it. This is beef country but so many cuts are regional and under different names, it can be confusing.
  6. I l-o-v-e salad bars. Amazingly enough, there's a small café in my nearby town that has a wonderful salad bar...so many choices that change often, everything is super fresh and kept cold. This is in a town of about 2,000! And it's available every day after 11AM six days a week (Sundays it's a buffet). This restaurant is always busy, full of locals, the food is very good and it's quite inexpensive. I feel lucky.
  7. Tried the lemonade cocktail yesterday wish Jack Daniels...that didn't do it. Tonight I'm using Gordon's lime twisted...this is better. i do want to try it with rum though since I have several bottles of different kinds. Tequila sounds goo too.
  8. Jo, i have This one and it work great although it only is useful for smaller fruit ( but that's all I need it for). I only juice limes and lemons. it is bulky tho so it's a pita to store. I used to use it often to squeeze a bunch of lemons and limes to freeze in ice cube trays for use in cocktails. Now it's stored away and I use this one that I bought in 2004 because it's less bulky and easier to clean up.
  9. Wow! I got my bottle of Inner Beaty the other day and I've been using it on everything I could find It is amazingly good! Better than ANY other hot sauce I've ever tried by a big margin. i put some on my lunch quesadilla and couldn't get enough of it; it's just the right amount of heat with a wonderful flavor.
  10. Thanks, all, I just put mine in the freezer!
  11. I bought lot of brown rice to use in making my dogs' food. is there a right way to store it? It seems like it is similar to whole wheat and I'm afraid it will go rancid if I don't keep it under refrigeration. Is tha t necessary or am I over thinking it?
  12. Wow, I gotta try these, they look fantastic!
  13. I have a jug of Simply Lemonade and thought I'd make a cocktail with it, Which liquor would go best?
  14. Is there really any major difference in the dried and the fresh? I've only used the dried type but I'm open to finding a plant. Do you use more of the fresh like other herbs?

    Certo

After reading articles about how Certo and grape juice can seriously help with arthritis pain, I went looking at the grocers. I assumed what I needed was powdered pectin but Certo itself seems to be a liquid. The dry products came under a different name. Does anyone know if they're the same? And would achieve the same result? For convenience sake, I'd prefer using the powder but not if I wouldn't get the same relief.
  16. My Mom, who passed away at 80 had lost most of her appetite. The only thing she seemed to really enjoy was sweets; she loved peanut butter cups as well as donuts and the like. Oh, and she did very much like KFC chicken. A lot of what happens to elders can be depression. I think that was part of Mom's problem, she had just lost her dh of 50+ years three months prior to her death. Health problems can also factor in. I am a senior and I socialize with others near my age and we all enjoy good food, most of the others try to avoid salt but I love it. One thing about the older people here in this landlocked state is that they didn't grow up eating seafood so they tend to avoid it. Such a shame because it is such a healthy choice.
  17. How perfect!!!! And now that I see it finished, I can agree with the mister about the rolling ladder.
  18. I don't think I've seen picka peppa around here but I'll look for it now.

    Bagged salad

I'm wondering if this was a one-time situation,. Perhaps they disn't have the best product available on that particular day. I've dined there before and did not get the bagged salad product. Let's hope that was the situation.
  20. I'm making Swiss steak in the Ipot now...chuck steak, potatoes, carrot, onion and canned Italian tomato, slow cooking. the aroma is intoxicatingly. it's a cool, wet day here and Swiss steak seemed like a comforting dish for a gloomy day. Used my new non-stick inner pot which worked beautifully.

    Bagged salad

It still is. There are a few farmers' markets around but the growing season is quite short and the options are not much. The Hutterite farmers come to Stevensville (a few miles South of where I live) and bring their produce, poultry, breads, etc. but the quantities are suitable for huge families (like theirs). Giant loaves of bread, huge cabbages the size of basketballs, chickens around 7 or 8 pounds. Too big for my needs. Very little In the way of delicate items like tomato, lettuces, summer squash, etc.
  22. I had dinner last weeke at one of town's better restaurants. I was so disappointed in the salad. the lettuce had clearly come from a bag because it had that unmistakeable chemical taste I recognized. i should have complained but didn't. Why would a good restaurant compromise their ingredients this way?
  23. I'm thinking of carrying my own small bottle of hot sauce for use in restaurants because they all seem to have only Tobasco available. I hate Tobasco sauce! It tastes, to me, like too much vinegar; I will not use it on anything, even if there's nothing else available. Some time ago I did a side by side testing of hot sauces (I have at least 6 to 8 in in my pantry). My favorite of those that I have was Dirty Dick's. But now I also have some of the Inner Beauty, I'll try that one in my next test.
  24. what's a low-salt cucumber? You mean they're not all the same?

    Meatloaf sandwiches

I got my first bottle of the Inner Beauty Hot Sauce yesterday and was eager to try it on my meatloaf sandwich...I like it a lot; it adds a nice extra layer of flavor to an already great sandwich.
