I ordered the one nonstick inner pot that was available at Amazon on 12/24...it will arrive on May 5(?) if I'm lucky. They did tell me it was not in stock but, wow, five months!!!!???

I am debating the same thing and I am also a singleton. I look at it as simply a way to try new meals and techniques. I'm quite curious. One thing I did notice when I was browsing the Blue Apron setup was that when I entered my old zipcode (which was in a much larger city) I found that the pricing was far less than it would be to the town where I live now.

I'll have a drink and NOT watch the derby. i'm a serious animal lover and happen to believe that horse racing is just another way to abuse animals for fun and profit. (just my own opinion, I don't hate you for enjoying it.)

I've made the recipe several times and I actually got it from my friend who makes these every year. So, yes the recipe does work just fine. I use regular flour. Try it, I'm sure it will work for you. Incidentally, this recipe has been on the bags of cranberries forever. I've not used the zest, however I'm glad you pointed that out, I must have missed it....I agree that it does add a lot to a recipe.

My pleasure. These are super easy to make. cranberry nut bars

What an artist!!!!

I have also learned the hard way that in the Fall when I first start looking for cranberries to make my cranberry bar recipe, I find it's too early and they're not yet in the stores. So now I have several bags in the freezer just for that. But it is nice to know that there's now a commercially frozen product. Thanks!

The sausage in the recipe is Italian Sausage that has been removed from the casings...also it is found loose here (without the casings). They are the same, just presented differently. like this.

So what do you use the orgeat for?
-
I wanted to make the Milk Street version of an updated Old Fashioned here. But I can't find Orgeat anywhere around here. Is there a suitable substitute for it?

My current favorite is clickety. As a matter of fact, I have kale on my shopping list for today so I can make up a pot. It is really a lovely, flavorful dish. Like this.

I LOVE salty snacks, far better than any sweet. One of my all time favorites is peanut butter filled pretzels...I don't bring them home because I can't leave them alone. BTW, Costco's are the best I've tried.

I came across this one just yesterday. Because I'm such a sucker for any kind of kitchen tool, I actually considered ordering it....I found it available at another site for $75.00 US. However the reviews on Amazon aren't all that good.

I usually grab my 4-½" smooth-edge paring knife.

I am going to try both the roll recipe AND the Polish cabbage casserole...that's my kind of cooking!

I lived in Portland for over 30 years but have been here now for 10. I still miss all the great restaurants Portland has though there've been lots of changes over time. There just aren't many good places to eat here. I miss all those ethnic places. It seemed as if there was just so much competition among restaurants that if their food wasn't really good they'd soon be out of business and replaced by something better. Even the food carts were great!

I love asparagus too. This time of year I like to say I could eat my weight in it. Well, seems I try. For me the fat spears are so much tastier than the thin ones.

Damn, that looks good. Never met a potato I didn't like.
-
Sounds almost exactly like mine except I like to add a couple tablespoons of drained, sweet relish.

I'd put them in the same category as canned spinach. Yuck. Ptooey.

Evaporated milk as substitute for milk in bread-baking?
lindag replied to a topic in Pastry & Baking
If I were to use evaporated would I need to dilute it? -
Yesterday I was making a loaf of sandwich bread and the recipe calls for 1 cup milk. I was almost out of milk and didn't want to make a run to the store and I wondered if I could sub some (diluted?) evaporated milk. Would that work?

I really like rice a lot. Any kind....(well, brown rice, not so much). Recently I discovered Vigo Spanish rice and it is excellent! Vigo

I'm not a huge brownie fan but I did make some once that I considered remarkable: Clickety

Haven't had a Thomas' muffin in many years, as I recall I didn't like them very much. I've been buying mine at Costco; love their cheese and their onion varieties. Theirs are far better than any of the grocery store brands I've ever found. Oh geez! I just realized I was having one of those moments when I read 'English muffins' but I was thinking I was seeing 'bagels'. Duh!
