I do try to shop once a week, twice at most, which is very different from my almost daily just a few items pleasure shopping. Not worried about myself since I go to work Mon-Fri. Just trying to do my part in social distancing.

I went to Trade Joe's yesterday. Had to wait in line for about 15 minutes to get in. Everything seemed to be in stock. I got wine, cheese, arugula, salami, nuts, chips. You know, the essentials. They were cleaning shopping carts like crazy. Registers had plexiglass. Workers were wearing masks and gloves. I resisted the urge to hoard things.

Went to Harris Teeter at Pentagon City at 7 am today (office meeting was canceled and I enjoyed a later than usual start of the day). It was raining like crazy too. So there were three more shoppers in the whole store. OK, may be five. Everything I needed was in stock. Bonus boneless chicken thighs best by 4/14 at half price.

No tomatoes fior tabouleh, no problem. I used pickled tomatoes, cilantro stems, tired parsley, scallions. Tasty end result.

Composed salad with whatever I had in the fridge. Potatoes, olives, tuna, tomatoes, feta, eggs, parsley, some random Greek dressing. DH called it Salad Niçoise, bless his heart

Thank you for asking. Not a cry for help. I am sad about this whole situation but who isn’t. Food makes me happy. Enjoying little things makes situation bearable.

Today is my birthday. During the normal times it would mean fancy dinner. Michelin, here I come. Or something like that. Today it means Russian salad that I used to make with my family for many years while living in Russia. In Russia it is called salad Olivier. It used to be made in vast quantities as far as I remember from my youth that happened to be in the 80s and 90s. Potatoes, carrots, eggs, hot dogs all boiled together and mixed with pickles, herbs if you have them. And of course obscene amount of mayo. This is to my mother and grandmother who survived Perestroika.

Good. Very different from the commercial chips. You basically taste the potatoes and nothing else. Perfect for strong tasting cheese and guacamole.

Potato chips made with newly acquired Mastrad microwave chip maker. It was 2 dollars at the thrift shop. I could not resist. Served with guacamole and blue cheese.

Green lentils with hot dogs. My grandma used to cut hot dogs ends when she cooked for me. I miss my grandma. She loved me the best when I was a child. And she was an amazing cook considering the paucity of food available to her in the USSR.
