  1. Afternoon cooking class in Oaxaca? My god, my heart is palpitating. Have you gone? Do you have any other info?
  2. Palenque is a definite and thanks for the food tip, exactly what I'm looking for. What is representative of that cuisine?
  3. Ok, sold! It was actually $44 for both, not $70 (which was the non-sale price).
  4. Vanessa, Great suggestion, and I see that Amazon has it on sale with her My Mexico book for $70 total. Have you posted about your Mexico trip? Would love to hear about it.
  5. I've got the Bayless book and I love it. I also have Zarela Martinez's book on Oaxaca. I'm going to be in Villahermosa, Palenque, Oaxaca (maybe), Mexico City and Puebla (maybe). I've only got a week and a half.
  6. I'm going to Mexico in a couple of months and I want to start doing some hardcore learning about the food. If you had to pick 2 Diana Kennedy cookbooks, what would they be?
  7. Tony Lukes has a roasted pork/broccoli rabe/provolone sandwich thats worth the trip to Philadephia alone. It gives me chills just thinking about it. Two locations: one in the center of the city, thats really sterile and fine food-wise but lacking in the beautiful dive ambiance that the original location has.

    Dinner! 2003

I was looking to make that spinach salad from CI. You liked?

    Kabab Café

I had chicken there for the first time last week and it was delicious, who knew? No actually I'm being serious, the chicken was great and it was my first time. His whole grilled fish is always good, and I've never not loved anything involving shrimp. (Double negative be damned).
  10. That sounds like a Steve Post stunt.

    Kabab Café

For those of you interested in this scotch, I found it at Ambassador Liquors (1020 2nd Ave) for $45.99
  12. As a former PBS fundraiser, I have to step in and dispel this notion that *anyone's* tax dollars goes to PBS or NPR. You've heard it before but our biggest source of income is from membership support. I'll also add that the way PBS has gone in terms of their drives is horrifying. I've tuned in a couple of times and had to check to make sure that I had not inadvertently turned on the QVC. Seriously.

    Coffee Mugs

Those are the best mugs, they actually make the coffee taste better too.
  14. Yes our tastes are quite the opposite. I am all about the Scottish ale malty flavor. One more reason why I wish that I was Scottish.
  15. Agreed, two of my favorite beers. What else do you like?

    My local's offerings

Gee, you live a hard life. Have a bud on me . Though I'm going to get slammed by a certain someone, I loved Whitehorse and will make it a part of my itinerary every time I go to London.
  17. Any bar that has a bartender with a few missing teeth (extra points for front teeth) is a dive bar. Also, any bar that has afternoon old men drinkers surely constitutes dive. One of my proudest NY moments is when I walked into Rudys, was fishing around my bag for my ID and the bouncer says "you've been here before, you dont need to give me your ID." A tear to my eye, I tell you.

    It's Sunday

I love creamed chip beef, a childhood taste from sunday breakfasts at...the local Holiday Inn. Very weird, I know. I'm glad to hear that others don't find this dish disgusting.

    It's Sunday

I love that! Makes it seem so healthy. Working this weekend, so bfast is two krispy kreme and a greek salad.
  20. Yuppified is like pornography: you know it when you see it.
  21. Corona, Queens would be worth a visit alone: Corona Heights Pork Store 107-04 Corona Ave: Chicken Parm Sub is outta this world. It takes like 15 minutes to make and while you're waiting, expect to be plied with lots of "samples." They're real smart there, one taste of anything you try will result in an immediate sale. Also has fresh mozzarella, home made sausages, etc etc. Leos Latticini--Heros, heros, heros. Home made fresh mozz that I actually prefer to CHPS. La Espiga, 42-13 102nd Street--Really fine Mexican. 7 Train to 103rd Street--Corona Plaza is maybe 30 min from Grand Central.
