Susan Fahning (Snowangel). Married, three children (Diana age 19, Heidi age 15, Peter age almost 14), living in a northern suburb of the Twin Cities (Minnesota). My cooking experience is all self-taught. As a young child, my parents uprooted the family from Midwestern casseroles (complete with canned cream of something soup and jello salads) and plopped us in Thailand and larb and curry. My taste buds never looked back. Extensive travel throughout the rest of the world merely heightened those taste buds.

Although a stay-at-home mom, I am busy cooking, gardening, woodworking and remodeling. In addition to collecting kitchen gadgets, I also collect power tools. I am proud to say that I installed my own gas stove and fridge with ice maker.

Between mid-May and mid-October, when I is not in the Twin Cities, I am at The Cabin, cooking with what I bring (no easy access to a grocery store) on a L. P. gas stove, using an L. P. gas fridge, with no running water, unless you count someone running to the lake for water with a bucket. I have outfitted said cabin, however, with a microplane, a French press, and three Wusthof knives. The Griswold dutch oven came with the place. The Cabin has seen the creation of many a larb wonder, and many a succulent smoked pork butt.
