Hey Nina, Thats one of the things my mom always tried to feed me as a kid, but I never liked. i even tried it in Spain. It's ok...but not my thing.
-
Assuming we make the cut...my friend and I are gonna hit some Colombian Bakeries for arepas (de choclo).
-
You can get a mandolin. they are good to have around.
-
I also use the (Huy Fong) Sriracha. It seems popular w/egulleters. :) I've noticed that sushi joints use it as well, in the spicy tuny/salmon. I have a bottle of Frank's, but haven't used it in a while. I also have chipotle powder and dried anchos hiding in the cubbard somewhere (although I knwo that wasn't the question.)

Now I have tried the bubble tea at the Rockville Tenren and I-Cream/Maria's (the bakery across the street) back to back for comparative purposes. :) The bubbles were better at I-cream, but the tea was weak...making IMHO Tenren the better bubble tea. There is a handout at Tenren which is an article from Washingtonian listing different DC area bubble tea joints.

was 20 the maximum? cuz I'd like to come with a friend, and u r at 20 already. Am I in, or on the waiting list?

I'm in, with a friend. Give me a little time to mull over what to bring. :)

I would guess that whoever asked the question isn't either of those things...but then again...neither am I. :)

I liked it too, but we went a couple of days after the NYT review and the owner had an oddly shaped chip on his shoulder. He made us (me really) his personal project, and went into three 20 minute lectures on how his food is supposed to be eaten (ordered), despite that fact that the place was packed and he was busy. He only got to the point in the last lecture, while the info would have helped before we ordered. I understood where he was coming from since if he had told the critic what he told me...he would have wound up with teh article he woudl ahve wanted written. But...im not in the food business, so he made a bad call. :) I wonder if any of that made sense, LOL. :) Did u try the octopus? yum :)

Great. I'ill buy it to, signed of course, with a greasy fingerprint of yours on itfrom eating Les halles Frites or something. :) Disclaimer: sketchy memory. I get mixed up with what was this year and last but... New: the downtown Les Halles The new Grand Sichuan (Midtown east?) downtown churascarria plataforma Beyoglu (and I have a story for that one) Noche (heard good things but havent been), Taste Good on Bayard (related to the one in Elmhurst.) Cinnebar I noticed a (new) Crystal's (philepino) in manhattan. Related to the woodside one? You can get more info from the recently opened section of TONY. No, i dont work for them. LOL Closed: Russian Tea room, atlas, cello, alison on Dominick, hudson river club, meigas. Yes, this weeks TONY helped me out. :) You may want to try the UES Wu liang Ye (since they have the (now closed) Lion pavillion chef.) I'm not sure if this is what u meant. I hope it helps. :)

I'm not much into bars (although I sued to eat those those joyva chocolate covered jelly bars and chocolate covered halvah bars) but I do like upscale chocolate, mainly dark or bittersweet. Not crazy about milk chocolate, and don't like white chocolate. Working with people who frequesnly visit Europe gives me occasional access to some interesting sweets. there was a box of Maxin's Of Paris chocolates in the office last week, but i wasn't crazy about it.

That's pure Calvin Trillin. Anyway...every year I say I'm gonna make Alton Brown's Free Range Fruit Cake...but i never get to it. :)

It's hard to answer thsi question without knowing more abouyt your preferences, but when I want to eat a bunch of veggies and enjoy them I make a vegetable tomato sauce. I usually use (fresh) mushrooms, carrots, onions, garlic, bell peppers, summersquash. Fresh peas work but must be added near the end. I'm sure you could work other vegetables in as well, just don't overload the sauce with veggies. I was going to suggest the british dish Bubble & Squeak (with cabbage or brussels) but your hash sounds similar. The TVFN web site (www.foodtv.com) should have the Two fat Ladies version. You can substitiute olive oil for the lard. How about making a vegetable soup?

Ive eaten a lot of soysauce chicken in Flushing. You know, the ones where the bones are practically bloody. And yet....I still live. :)

Does cooking method come into play? Cuz we are basically talking about texture, and frying a hotdog so its crunchy (as an example) may work better with a thinner or thicker width. Hmmmm?

Thanks for the help guys. :) How expensive is Mykonos? I've bought Italian groceries at Vignola. Its near that harvest bread company, right? yum! (I didn't say i was the wheat-free one.) Argentine, eh? I love entrana w/chimichurri, and empanadas. :) There's a ton of it near me in NYC (Queens) though.

From the Hardee's Corporate Site: Locations in Washington WASHINGTON 1005 First St, Ne Washington , DC 20002 I know where that Hardee's is. It's in The greyhound station, about 7 minutes walk from Union Station. I've never eaten there.

I spend a lot of time in Rockville (although I'm based in NYC) and want some suggestions for good inexpensive ethnic eats there. Ok, if you have a non-ethnic suggestion, I'll take that too. Places w/ some wheat free options would be preferred. Areas very close to Rockville (by car =) would work as well. I like Benjarong, Taste of Saigon, and Bombay Bistro. And bubble tea at Tenren (although i haven't tried the bakery w/bubble tea across from it.) Thanks.

I remember years ago the 2 hot Tamales getting them at a CA Greenmarket, and sauteeing them, but i don't remember what the dish was.

I don't know where you are based, so i don't know if this helps. I've seen them in nyc movie theatres, and a mall in Long Island. I think it was rooevelt field, but don't quote me. I ahve a friend that loves them...but he is one of my less descriminating (food wise) friends.....so him liking them isn't much of a recommendation. LOL

The food is decent. Italian style underneath the fish house cuisine. Service is alright. Not great, not terrible. If I lived in that nabe I would eat there. It's not near a subway....making it less likely I'll eat there. I do head that way for Don Juan and Pio Pio though. *shrug* When you go to check it out....get an empanada at Don Juan's empanadas, a teeny place a block or two down Woodhaven from london lenny's. They are doublesized baked (chilean) empanadas. I particularly like their chicken empanada. Their hotsauce si good too. Recent word is that they actual meals are good now, but I haven't checked it out. good luck w/the job. :)

LOL :) I interpret the phrase as "Treat the customer as if he is right." :) I guess it's good that i don't work with customers. :)
