I was disappointed with Hong Que (Four Sisters), but haven't tried Viet Royale. I like Taste Of Saigon in Tysin's Corner (and Rockville.)

I'm with Nina. I love Di Fara. I have yet to find better by the slice pizza. I'm very tomato sauce oriented, so he sells me on sauce alone. I often go there for pasta just cuz I love the sauce so much. And he really does have good pizza toppings, especially teh artichoke and broccoli rabe. It has been over discussed because people are passionate about Difara's and about pizza. We are in ny after all. :) One could argue that a lot of the places I love (sripraphai any1?) are overdiscussed. It doesn't diminish their greatness. The old time pizzaria's are mostly gone (or downhill) now, which is part of why it is great to have Di Fara's stilla round and making great pizza. Jason, How many times have yoiu been to Di Fara's? What did you try? Which places do you feel are better, and why?

Yes. A better Malaysian place would be Malaysia Kopitiam in the Dupont Circle area. They know their stuff and can even steer you towards the Malay, Chinese, and Indian infuences in the menu. I love the Indian influenced stuff on Malaysian menus (assam laksa, roti canai, roti telur, curries) and I'm not even into Indian food.

It sure sounds good. I still miss the days when Mcdonald's fried their little pies. Maybe I shoudl make dessert empanadas. :)

I posted it here in the media board earlier today. :)

I guess that was directed at me (since i mentioned Rockville.) We are happy with Tara Thai and Benjarong (in Rockville) for now. And I have a great extremely authentic Thai place in nyc that I go to. :) If you have other recommendations in or near Rockville, i'd love to hear them. You may want to reply to my Rockville thread, since I was more specific there. :)

I wonder if people who dislike Bobby's food would like Jack's, and vice versa. They are pretty different. hmmm I also like teh down Home Diner, but I haven't tried the Jack's Firehouse. I got hooke don Jack's cooking when they had him on Chef de jour (am i remembering the right show name?) on TVFN. I used to geta kick out of him on grillin and chillin, but have never been a Bobby Flay fan.

nope. I'm not actually based in the DC area, although I'm in Rockville a lot. I have heard that two of the best Thai restaurants in the DC area are Duangrat's and Rabieng in Fall's Church (NoVa.) they are owned by the same people. i haven't been to either. They are rated well by zagats, not that it helps. :) http://eg.washingtonpost.com/profile/79959...ext=restaurants http://eg.washingtonpost.com/profile/79466...vor_id=2&tmpl=1

Glad to help. :) I've seen big bags of dried orange zest in Middle eastern Groceries and spice stores, but it always had such a dull color and a lot of pith, so I never bought it.

Ok, its not the info you're looking for, but a better zester coulc have made your work easier, and they aren't expensive. Here's one: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00...=I2PZZEYOL44ZGM Btw...I grated a lemon yesterday for quince jelly. :) The jellycame out yummy. :)

MD and NoVa? I like Tara Thai (Rockville) which is a new location and has nice decor. The NoVa (Viena) location that i tried is good as well, but I think i prefer the Rockville one. I also like Benjarong (Rockville), although Tara Thai seems more authentic, and I prefer it. If you go to Benjarong...there are two bubble tea places in that strip mall. I recommend Tenren (no seating.) BTW, it isn't Thai but I also recommend Taste of Saigon (Viet) in Rockville. Ther is also one in NoVA (Tysin's Corner.)

Aw, and i was looking forward to it. Ok, hopefully there will be more interest next time.

The Zojirushi machines are generally well regarded. You should try the Bread Bakers mailing list (link points to their searchable archive). Good use for a bread machine: have it knead and proof the dough, then shape it and bake it in a regular oven. - S Thanks guys. I'll tale a look at the Zojirushi machines. Huevos, I'll Check out King Artur. Fish, I'll check that link out. :) Yes, I had tought of baking in a regular oven...since many of the reviews i read complained about the shape. This is especially true of the verticle machines. I wonder why they make them that way.

I tracked the Hockley Valley flour down. It is spelt. Thanks. :)

You have the West Bend 41077 Just For Dinner? Its fast, but produces a small loaf, right? Hmmm. I'm thinking taht something that produces normal sized loafs might be better. Maybe I should ask her what she would prefer (although I did want it to be a semi-surprise.)

Thanks for the response. :) Are these resipes where u have substituted spelt for wheat, or are they spelt recipes? I'm thinking that since "The Gluten-Free Gourmet Bakes Bread : More Than 200 Wheat Free Recipes" has bread machine instructions that reducing the moisture may not be necesary. I'm gonna give ehr the book with the machine. I'll definitely pass the flour rec along. Is it a blended flour (spelt, tapioca, rice etc...), or just spelt?

I did a search on Amazon menus and came up with: Sushi Zen has soft shell turtle soup. That seems like your best bet. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...07&sterm=turtle Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steak Hse lists turtle soup but it may be "mock turtle soup". http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...02&sterm=turtle

LOL. I was afriad that I wouldn't be taken seriously if I asked about bread machines. Are the results that bad? The point is that since she is limited to non-wheat options....it may be better for her to be able to experiment with making different breads. If any of it comes out well...she will continue to use the machine. She can even make loaves and freeze them...which has to be better than the frozen seplt bread sold in stores.

SobaAddict70, I prefer the roast chicken freshly made. I agree about burgers not improving next day. LOL What is Sinigang and Dinuguan?

I'm thinking of getting a bread machine as a gift fpr someone who can't eat wheat., and buys a lot of spelt bread. I would aso get her Bette Hagman's (Hageman?) gluten free baking book with it since it has many gluten recipes including blends. What features, models, or brands do u recommend in a bread machine? Anyone used one for gluten free recipes? Any suggestions along those lines? Thanks

For Malaysian I prefer Malaysia Kopitaim in the Dupont Circle area.

Red Sea is gone. Closed a few months ago or so. I like Meskerem, and don't like Fasika's.

Thanks for clearing that up. I thought it was sumac she was talking about. :) I also like it on kabobs. You could use it to make some ZA'ATAR, and eat it with pita and olive oil. Here is a Gourmet Mag recipe for it: http://www.epicurious.com/run/recipe/view?id=106776

I made a butternut squash dish a couple of days ago and ate some warm just after cooking. It was alright, but nothing special. One of the few times I've regretted not using butter cuz a pat probably would have helped. The next day I took some out of the fridge and heated it up, and it was delicious. What dishes do you think improve by sitting in the fridge a day? I make a beet dish with garlic and vinegar that improves the longer you leave it, but thats basically a pickling recipe. Hmmm. Sounds like I've dusted off my Fall (greenmarket produce) recipes. :)
