It's a ziplock bag filled with extra brine to keep the cucumbers submerged. Not fancy but it works. If you make extra brine you don't have to worry about the bag possibly leaking water and diluting everything.
-
Picked enough cucumbers to start a batch of crock pickles. You guys have seen this before, but I took pictures so you get to see it again 🤣 Dill heads from the garden. Grape leaves that Ronnie picked for me from the field. Extra brine to weight it all down. Now we wait for 2 weeks and check. If they aren't done they will go for another week.

Should have explained that better. I put them in the bottom and on the top of my crock that I brine my pickles in. Supposedly helps keep them crisp.

I think we're going to have a bumper crop of potatoes this year. The plants aren't dead yet (meaning they are not ready to dig) but potatoes are popping out of the ground! Pulling onions every day. Lots of cucumbers. Hoping to get enough jalapeños to pickle a batch and can them. I sent Ronnie down to the field for some grape leaves. Starting a crock of pickles this afternoon.

@Kim ShookLOL! I guess my plate had smallish portions.....I do remember that Ronnie wanted a separate plate for his salad so he had more of a regular portion. The plates are just normal sized. Now I want cabbage rolls. @SmithyI'm so hungry for ribs but I'm forcing myself to wait until 4th of July weekend. Yours look so good. So do @Norm Matthews'. @Ann_TYour greek salads always inspire me to make one. I'm hoping I have some feta buried in the fridge somewhere. Ronnie's daughter brought him some really nice filets for Father's Day so he grilled them for us. I made brownies and some ice cream in the Ninja Creami for dessert Lots of cucumbers from the garden happening. The grocery store has pork roasts on sale for 99 cents a pound. Ronnie stopped and got a few. We think those prices won't be around for long. Smoked one and then I SV'd it for sandwiches. Last night was spinach, mushroom and Canadian bacon calzones

Yep. I'm going to be 48 soon and I remember them for sure. Thought I was super cool pretend smoking with them ....well, who am I kidding. I was super cool 🙃 One more comment. I've never seen hash over rice before. Is it BBQ-ish type sauce? -

I'm so excited!!!! Those prices are really quite good for this day and age and the food. Oh my. I'm sitting here wishing I had it all in front of me. You've inspired me to throw a small piece of pork in the SV that Ronnie had already smoked. I need pork sandwiches for dinner now! And the banana pudding. Love love love. -
Thoroughly enjoyed reading this thread. Gave me a few laughs. I had the same thought as @KennethTregarding the corn on the salad. I've said it once or twice but I'll say it again. EVERY time I see or think about corn I think of @liuzhou. As I was planting 200 seeds of sweet corn in the garden I thought to myself "Boy, would he hate this". As an aside, the jazz band (???) pictured outside the restaurant invokes more of a cajun food type place for me......

I don't go through a ton of sugar so it's been a while since I bought some. I needed smelling salts in the middle of the isle. $8.00 for a 10 lb bag of Domino brand. Cheapest available. These hummingbirds I'm feeding better appreciate me a little more 🤣 EDIT I LIED. The sugar is Best Choice brand.

Bump! What happened to us last year lol? Maybe a new thread was made and I can't find it? Serious craving for some kind of seafood this year. I really want briny fresh oysters, clams, shrimp.....sigh. I could order but it's going to be really hot. We just bought a slab of pork ribs and Ronnie cold smoked them. They are now back in the freezer waiting to be finished off. What's everyone having?

They aren't messin' around. All the wheat is at the Coop ready for us to sell and they are planting soybeans as we speak
-
All done! It used to take half a day at least. Now it takes like 3 1/2 hours. Amazing.

I should go out and do that but the wheat dust is O M G killing me even inside.... I did post pics somewhere around here years ago. I'll try to find them. This is the first year we have two combines going at the same time so it's a lot faster than normal. The farmers--as you guys know--are Mennonites. Just the nicest people. We have a great relationship. When they harvest they pile a ton of their kids in the cab of the combine (now air conditioned). SO cute. One of my favorite times of year.

Started harvesting our wheat a couple of hours ago!!!! Even after all these years I love it. Kansas proud

After reading your question and asking Ronnie, we think that could be the reason. It was HOT outside the day he smoked it.

Always always for me 142.5F for 6 hours after the breast is cold smoked.

Where is the jealous button -
All good, as usual. I keep trying to find iced coffee that I like. Haven't tasted this yet....suspect that I don't care for oat milk but we will see. Why did I buy two???????? 'Cause I'm an idiot lol.

Happy Father's Day to all! A few from last week: Ronnie cold smoked a turkey breast and then I SV'd it--like I've done a million times. Wanted it because we picked our first two garden tomatoes (never super good, but light years better than grocery store ones). That turkey turned out so dry and I can't fathom why. Win some/lose some I guess. ramen noodle salad and fries to go with The rest of the homemade pasta with my sauce and Italian sausage Pizza and salad night--Italian sausage, jalapeño, mushroom and onion Breakfast for dinner with the last of these sausages that I love. Roasted chicken with the last of the garden asparagus And last night for Ronnie since it's Father's Day weekend Chicken fried venison steaks, gravy, taters, and @JAZ's honey mustard sprouts

I, too, always wondered where you ended up. Good to see ya!

They had a guide ...or maybe more than one guide...so they cleaned them. Part of the perk of going with one lol.
