    Dinner 2017 (Part 5)

Oh how I love Hot Springs. I think I probably have been to the Italian place.....I can't remember the name but the food was amazing. I had house made ravioli that I can still taste it was so good. Sorry that it was disappointing I definitely know the breakfast place and they do make a damn good one. We went there before the races a lot to eat. The German will awesome I bet. I never made it over to eat there and I wish we had.

    Venison steaks
  4. Ronnie wanted venison steaks last night. 125F for a couple of hours and then seared.
  5. Is the meat ground up? Like a hamburger steak?

    Dinner 2017 (Part 5)

Thai ground pork lettuce wraps, egg rolls and noodles last night. Nice on a super hot evening. Lettuce, cilantro and basil from my garden.
  7. What would I do without you?? Thank you so much!!! Well, I know what I would do...I'd be scrubbing the hell out of that heavy canning pot with no results happening lol.
  8. It is aluminum!!! Thank you!!!! This was driving me crazy. So, if I do that next time will it take the black away? Edited to add that unless I missed it in the instruction book--and I could have--I didn't see anything telling me to do this. They should at least warn a person that the pot will turn black lol.
  9. I used my pressure canner for the first time yesterday. I hope it gets easier as I get more used to it. I had a hard time adjusting the heat just right....the instructions that came with it said that the thingy should only jiggle 1 to 4 times per minute but when I would adjust it down the pressure would go down--I needed it to stay at 15 lbs. Anyway, it was exciting and I'm thrilled to have some beans from my garden done However, I screwed up and I don't really know what I did wrong. I rinsed the pot and the lid with warm water and a bit of soap before I used it. I didn't scrub it hard, just washed it with a sponge. After I was all done I looked inside and it has turned completely black up to where the water line was! It isn't greasy and it doesn't smell. It's just black. I tried to scrub it and I can't make a dent. It's not burned. Just black. I don't mind it I guess as long as it's not leaching some weird chemical into my canning lol.

@ElainaA and @Okanagancook I have been remiss in telling you both how MUCH I LOVE the recipe that you shared with me a couple of summers ago--the one that uses the whole cherry tomatoes and tons of garlic that you bake in the oven for a long time. I've been out of my homemade sauce for a couple of months now. I was digging through the freezer the other day and found a container of the cherry tomato sauce. I was SO excited. I've used it on pizza--which was delicious. Biting into a whole cherry and getting that burst of flavor on the pizza is amazing. Last night I was on my own for dinner. It's very hot here and my air conditioner is broken so I wanted something easy. I waiting until about 8:30 pm to start cooking so that the sun was off of the kitchen. Anyway, I heated up the sauce and made a squash from the garden. Heavenly. I hope I have a glut of cherry 'maters this year so I can make some more of this stuff!
  16. Kay!!! NICE job!!! Beautiful jam and the asparagus....and the mushrooms. Everything looks like it's out of a food magazine. I don't have any experience with those Weck jars, but I, too, would love to hear from someone that does. And, amen sister. Green beans are cooked the same way in my house. Period.
  17. Wow, that is really beautiful!

Chicken gizzards, fries and ham pasta salad last night
  20. I don't think I've ever used another kind of potato besides a russet for potato salad. Somewhere in one of these IP threads I did the eggs and taters together and it worked like a charm. I'll have to go back and try to find my post. Last night I used my new thingy for the first time. I LOVE it. I pressure cooked some gizzards. Very easy to get in and out of the IP and nothing stuck to the pans. Also, yesterday Ronnie pressure cooked some country ham and then used the grinder on it. I made a huge and very good batch of ham salad. Then I added some pasta to some of the salad and made ham pasta salad to go with dinner Good stuff.
  21. I can't even hit the like button over that.
  22. Kerry, it's no wonder you're a little under the weather--you have been running non-stop! You take it easy and make alleguede carry all of your luggage.

I'll trade you some beets for some rhubarb Breakfast for dinner last night. I made too much food. I wanted both asparagus and yellow squash, so I made that along with hash browns and some sausages. It was fun making it--I did the eggs and hollandaise sauce SV. Super easy and I liked that you could hold them in the water bath until the rest of the meal was ready to plate. Ronnie got super creative so I had to show you his plating skills LOL My boring plating skills
