@rotuts Catalina, French, Russian - the Wishbone dressings of yore. I had a flashback yesterday when stepmother brought home Russian dressing to make "Chicken Fantastic". Chicken, can of cranberry sauce, packet of Lipton onion soup, and the dressing - gets baked. I did not partake.

I've only seen them sold by the sidewalk grannies in little bags in Chinatown (L.A.) They also sold kumquats which really punch up the fresh sugar cane juice also from street vendor. They make my favorite marmalade.

Scallops?! At least in the US generally they are shelled at sea and rinsed so by sale they are baby clean. Mussels and clams different process. What have you experienced grit wise? I love them and have never experienced grit.

Lox: Is there anything it can't do? Well, yes, at least one thing.

The last one "7 Culinary Wonders" I got at the library when it came out. I thought it well done as it integrates how these immigrants blended into their new cultures.

My exact reaction but maybe that is his go-to method for that texture of vegetable.

ooh thse are too pretty to pickle in my world. Lie pickles but asparagus falls short of the mark for me.

People are funny here. There are loquats espaliered against a long wall at the local little mall. Full of fruit. I think people here have no clue to what they are.

Sounds good. Do you drain and eat out of hand or put in bowl and spoon up?

Spectacular work by a passionate man. Thanks for the heads up. As with the recent vaccine development, so much background work goes on by hardworking scientists in plant genetics and breeding thatwe never know of or acknowledge. -
@KennethT Oh no your dip for the mango is exactly my memory and preference. I live in the land of salt & spice given with street vendor fruits

@kayb beautiful veggies and all those tender leaves are pretty tasty

Lost this post twice- not irritated at all not to drag this into psych analysis land - the women scream eating disorders. Addiction comes with control issues, lying, hiding, manipulation, desperation. My son has had many eating disordered patients (juveniles) and the stories are funny on the surface like burrito under pillow, but really just super sad.

The sides are great but the lamb itself is screaming to me. It looks dark roasted. Was there a sort of crust or just pullable sweet meat? Thanks for the porn.

@patti So do you have permanent tongue scars rom biting it? I compare the faux gluten sensitive to those who take advantage of the emotional support "loophole" for dogs. A complete dis-service to people with legitimate issues. 'Luckily I've never had the food issue come up in my casual entertaining, but theoretically those are friends who wouldn't take advantage.

The memories matter. My sister does not make the recipes but the notes evoke pleasant times. For your niece the danger is that reality and fond memory in a recreation do not always intersect as planned. Wish her well.

That is really nice. Your mom seems like a special lady - loved the caution about not using the word "hate" - I grew up with that caution as well. Especially connected with her caution about judging people on superficial things. Not my history unfortunately. Family recipe sharing and preservation matters to me. In all my moves I managed to preserve all the handwritten notes. I did up a book for my sister years ago (copy for me) - best of the best. She sobbed. I consult it often.

@Kim Shook Those shrimp burgers look generously shrimpy. This from you made me laugh as I get the sense you are particular about tastes: "I don’t really care for cold potatoes unless they are raw". How do you like them raw? I know other countries do that but you I am curious.

And fads are just that. Soy, then coconut, now oat...

I had not heard of the red Tabby spinach. Reading, it sounds on the firm side with a stronger taste - things I like in spinach. Did you enjoy it?
