The mentioned landscape fabric is used alot by landscapers here. My garden mentor disliked it because at some point it breaks down and is "with ya forever". But we have hot dry summers (or did). And yes the opportunistic weeds come through. Looking forward to seeing your garden progress.

Your fish always tears me between envy and greed

You will be fine. Go for it! I did my first following Julia Child's directions. Yes Chris is missed. The internet - odd closeness but peeps can vanish into the ethernet.

Don't take niece to a Vietnamese restaurant where the big raw greens platter shows up to wrap your grilled meats into You are such the generous short order accommodating cook!

Well hopefully his skin won't go pink. When Weight Watchers had carrots as a "free" food I remember the jaundiced effect some ladies sported.

So are the British beans on toast considered "nursery food" ?

Frustrating! What they were waiting for the baby cabbages to grow? I've mentioned before that Amazon shipped my copy of Marcus Samuelsson's "The Rise" to stepmother in the desert. At least the tracking showed it and I was able to stop before it twisted their racist knickers. Or the Amazon delivery (picture sent) left on the ground at mailbox adjacent to busy road; a good long hike from the house. Good luck! They are one of my personal favorite vegetables.

Kroger here has a company brand. Has a decent mist spray I think I bought it less than a year ago. https://www.kroger.com/p/kroger-non-stick-canola-oil-cooking-spray/0001111078974

I think it is like "bitter" which I enjoy. Yes they taste of the earth. So many options in the vegetable kingdom.. If you don't like it don't eat it unless you are Scarlett O'Hara

The original plan was to use my frozen lamb bones for stock and add greens and potatoes or noodles. But stepmother still here and the smell of lamb she says nauseates her so one adjusts. I cooked the greens while they were at Costco with sliding door open so as to lessen offensive odors. Mustard is a pleasant to me but strong smell to some. This bulk stuff was not young . Quite bitter which I like.

Ralphs (Kroger) had marked down one pound bags of various greens. This is California so the sign said "great for juicing". I got the mustard. Currently cooking just with diced salami (only cured product in fridge). Oh does it smell like comfort food.

I got good smile on a crud day from singer, songwriter, guitarist Jason Isbell today on how he would describe great cornbread to his spouse who is vegetarian: " I'll do a prose poem. That's the best way to describe cornbread. With no punctuation."

My silly question - what flavors of See's? ') I like your casual approach because after all it is a vacation

Yes. The only reason we ate it as kids was because we could see Catalina Island from the house. Not the origin of the name but - oh the mind...

Actually most 3rd grade plating is often in the "no 2 different items touching or I can't eat it" phase

I distinctly remember reading about the matsutake in the 70s for the first time in the Time Life Foods of the Word - Japan book. They went on my list along with fresh truffles. Sadly neither have entered my life. The reverence shown them was an eye opener to the Japanese way with seasonal foods.

I posted Haute Cuisine in another topic but it belongs here. Based on true story of personal chef for Mitterrand - French w/ sub titles
