  1. Looking around and then quickly removing "mooncake" from bucket list of foods I want to try.
  2. The Des Moines Register did a short interview with Steven and it made me curious. I had no one near me that enjoyed cooking and trying new foods so I checked this place out and joined as fast as I could. Never been sorry for a second! I tell people we live at the intersection of the bible belt, the corn belt and the Hairy Nation. (google that one).
  3. And those are so much classier than the plastic ones I used. I'm so tempted to order them but it can only lead me down that path to bongo drums, surf music and tie dyed everything! I didn't hang out at Venice Beach for nothing ya know!
  4. I can remember when every salad bar in the So. Cal. area had sprouts in their line-up. I really love radish sprouts, they are pretty hot. Come to think of it, I used to have a kit for sprouting seeds. Had three lids that fit a mason jar. Each one had a different size grid in it. You could rinse and drain the sprouts super easily. For all know, it is still available...If I mentioned "sprouts" to my neighbors, they would wonder why I'm trying to grow Brussel sprouts in a jar!
  5. At first I thought this was the Chinese version of Russian Nesting Dolls!
  6. Welcome. if I could only eat one cuisine, it would be Mexican hands down!
  7. I live just a hop, skip and a jump from Blakesburg! The fly-in is still going strong. Love to watch the old biplanes go over our house. They have added a nice museum there too. I had some books and other stuff on the old DC-3s which we donated last year. My Dad worked at the old Douglas Aircraft plant at Clover Field in Santa Monica, CA. Don't recall seeing that restaurant but I shall sure look next time we are in the area.
  8. The ultimate "End" of the month sale. Wash before using! I bought a mesh bag of six nice sized limes at Aldis yesterday for $1.79. Nice and juicy too.
  9. I suspect my husband may have a wee crush on her. A pair of chopsticks recently showed up by the stove! Seriously we both really enjoy her videos a lot.
  10. And don't forget that it wouldn't be an official visit without Anna there too! And we will miss an entire year of seeing Kira transform into a lovely young woman!
  11. Her wonderful humor shined through in everything she wrote. What a loss for all of us.
  12. I have a large spoon and an empty bowl and am more than willing to help you clean it up!
  13. Didn't O.J. also sell packets of the drink in powered form? And I also remember being able a pay bit more and have an egg added. I recall a bank of blenders all whirring around, filled with yummy stuff. I've seen copy-cat recipes. MIght be the time to dig one out and give it a try. 96 degrees here and one of those would more than hit the spot
  14. I was given a box full of recipes from one grandmother. Many of them call for a "knob of butter". I love butter, but I suspect a door knob size was not what she meant.

    Dinner 2020

Oh the red pepper on the left side of the bowl looks for all the world like a little fish swimming along.. I did a second and a third take!
  16. Now that's truly "corny".

    Breakfast 2020!

Oh dear, was that one of your cygneture jokes?
  18. I pre-ordered it from Amazon and it will be here on the 25 of this month. Just one long week to wait. It was $13.99. And yes, I'm pea-green with envy seeing the photo.
  19. We bought a big metal shelving unit and put it in the closet in the foyer. We planned the closet for hanging guests' coats and the like. We finally decided that we like extra food storage more than we like guests! Can always toss the clothing over the back of a chair but you can't do that with cans and boxes of stuff. If I had my druthers, I would move the washer and dryer upstairs and convert the laundry room to a big walk-in pantry. It would let me redefine the work "hoarder".
  20. The 34 books I mentioned up thread are all cookbooks. I just counted 21 more Sunset books on home and garden stuff. Who knew?
  21. And crafts as well. I'm not very good at crafts in general but somehow I could always stumble though Sunset's and up with something I didn't want to shove in a drawer. I just counted, I have 34 different Sunsets and a huge pile of pages that I have torn from magazines.
  22. We did visit the headquarters in Menlo Park. Beautiful building and great test garden plots. The test kitchens were not in use that day though and I was crushed. My Mom kept her subscription going even when she had moved into an assisted living place. When I was married, I subscribed just as soon as I had a spare nickle. When the Lane family sold it to Time Magazine, it started on a downhill run. I finally let my subscription lapse a few years back but still give one to my daughter. I like the idea of three generations having the magazine in common.
  23. I have that one as well as an older version called. Hors d'oeuvres from 1976. Sunset really was cutting edge when it came to food.
  24. I second that about Sunset Books. I have a copy of Fresh ways with Salads. It is the ninth printing. and published in 1997. I believe the the first edition was in the 60's or maybe earlier. I have rarely been unhappy with a recipe from any Sunset publication and I have a slew of them.
  25. I pre -ordered this the first day I read about it. It should arrive on the 25 of the month. Really looking forward to it. She is in my mental collection of strong, amazing women. It includes, among others, R.B.G., Jane Goodall and Julia Child.
