Supposed to reach 70 degrees today. If you have hay to make while the sun shines, get busy-this won't last!

I tend to shy away from eating anything that could and would eat me! Worked out well so far. The exception may be pigs. Heard stories about how some farmer fell while feeding hogs and they ate him before his family even missed him Hum, they liked him better than their ration of *orn I guess, Even those stories won't stop me from eating pork!

Maybe that dog-like critter is a hyena or a jackal? Could it be included, like the vulture, because it often eats spoiled meat? Looks like cannibalism is okay though. Might be good to know in a pinch,

My parents made this back in the late 60's. I was so jealous that they had that set of cookbooks and could fix something that tasted like that! A few years later I was able to buy my own set of the books and sauerbraten was the first thing I cooked from the book of German cooking . I used to get so excited when a new book came. But towards the end I had the option of getting the last five books all at the same time. I said "yes" and I still remember the day they arrived. Right now I can look across the room and see the books on the shelf. They are on one end and all the spiral bound recipe books are on the other end. And, how silly is this? I still can't resits buying any of the series I run across at used book sales, or thrift shops.

Just stunning and, I suspect, well worth the wait. What a joy for you to be able to cook in that beautiful space!

Have to laugh at the Sunbeam Mixmaster booklet; I don't have one BUT I do have the mixer. It was my Nana's and she gave it to me when she bought a new one. It is such a workhorse it makes the Energizer Bunny look lazy. I fully expect it to last long enough to pass on to one of our daughters.

Happy Birthday Shelby. My birthday was in March and I "celebrated" by treating myself to a large Amazon order of food related books and toys. Christmas may be much the same.

But you must realize that, if Kerry is involved, it will be chocolate gravy. Not that there's anything wrong with that!

That hit home. The best tacos al pastor we had in Mexico was in Mazatlan. The place was a scooter rental by day and became a restaurant at night. They even had grandma out front making tortillas. If that wasn't enough to lure you in, the smells would for sure. Thanks for reminding me of that!

I guess I would have to see your check list or more details on how you came to your conclusions. By your standards, I live in The Land of Meh! Strange as it may seem, we actually eat pretty well. Granted, local stores lack many of the exotic ingredients that you may find essential but they are more interested in pleasing local repeat customers than someone who comes in once! My family has traveled over much of the country and finding local treasures is part of the fun. Never felt that I was one to judge what a grocery store in Northern Minnesota or Southern Florida should stock. My "meh" might be the local favorite. It just so happens I am reading "The Secret Life of Groceries" by Benjamin Lorr......very interesting.

Many years ago there was a small Mexican restaurant in a near-by town that had the best tacos al pastor outside of Mexico we've ever had. The place closed and I did everything in my power to track down that table model vertical spit. Funny, but all of a sudden my limited Spanish was no longer understood where it had been a month before! To this day it hasn't showed up at another restaurant in the area so is must have been whisked out out of town in the middle of the night. I have had one on my Amazon Wish List for many, many years!

Now stick a skewer in each half, roll them both in melted chocolate and than in crushed nuts. Freeze and enjoy. By far the best way to eat a banana.😄

Back in the 80's the Thousand Oaks, CA hospital had clam chowder every Friday that was world class. It got to be "a thing" to meet for lunch at the hospital. Loved seeing all "the suits" lined up. A very different type of a soup line. I was never a patient there so can't comment on the rest of the menu but I suspect it was pretty decent.

I've only had Shishito peppers once and that required a 125 mile one way trip to my nearest Trader Jo's. They have grown into something epic in my memory!

The checks all the boxes for me.

That is the perfect definition of a "good mother"-never caught in the act and always looking like an angel. I was never able to quite pull it off. My horns kept knocking my halo off center. -
I hope the "leek" in your soup wasn't caused by that cute monkey!

A sweet tooth is not enough to eat one of those things. It requires a mouth full of sweet teeth to get one down!
-
And "hard shelled" too at times I suspect😉

For those of you who have access to Trader Joe's tamales, how to they stack up? We were planning to make the 125 mile trek to the nearest store and tamales were high on my list. That was before all the Covid crap hit the fan.

Mark us down as another "turn it upside down" couple. Sounds almost kinky doesn't it?. I've never gotten much beyond Marie Calendar pies but planning on changing that as soon as I can free range shop again. -
Thank You, when I found the Amoroso rolls, I thought I'd nailed it but still not quite right. I'll keep trying. And he puts hot sauce on my best efforts anyway! Yes, when he looked on Google Earth and saw it was gone, he was kinda shocked. But most of his Navy time was spend as a corpsman with the Marines in Camp Pendleton, CA.

My meal to recreate for hubby is the Philly cheese steak he had while stationed at the Philadelphia Navel Hospital. It just plain ain't about to happen but I keep flailing away at the project. I agree, it is more of a memory than a real taste at this point.
