  1. I've been jonesing for a version of the Acropolis for over a year now. Robert Swedroe, a local Miami design powerhouse, uses Snaidero quite often in his condominium projects, to great effect. #1 boy needs to settle us down sometime in the next 6 years, then I'll be seriously considering it. The only problem with these compact kitchens is counter space. I intend to add an extra 'S' counter piece with a dishwasher, an extra cooktop and 2 ovens to my Acropolis design. Plus, I can't stand Italian plumbing fixtures, as a rule, so there will be some change outs from the get go.
  2. The real question is why is this Kelly man focussing his campaign on inane subjects like foie gras when there are so many actually important subjects to discuss? What's he trying to avoid discussing? Vadouvan listed some important subjects in his post, all of which trump this silly issue of foie gras.
  3. I adore my own company, and so, I relish eating alone. Especially in a restaurant with good food, and comfortable seating. I can eat and giggle with myself, people watch, and read a book. Write a bit, eat some more. All by myself. Yay! I'm a very social creature, my friends can't believe that I go out of my way to eat out by myself. But, hey, I'm my very oldest, closest and best friend! My second favorite alone outing is the cinema, or a lecture.
  4. Scotch eggs. Preferably those made by Mike at Churchill's in Miami.
  5. As a survivor of a bacterial invasion that became septic, I can vouch for this statement. Also, to add to the inanity of the day, humans taste like pig. As cannibalism is illegal and taboo in most places, many people will not discuss this, but the rump and the thigh are the most desirable parts, and it tastes like pig. Fat, juicy pig. An obese person is too fatty, a muscular person is too tough, a couch potato is the best game. You know, someone who spends a lot of time on the internet, discussing their next meal, is really the ideal. An eGulleter will command a higher price, per pound, usually. Unless they're a runner. Runners are the lowest on the totem pole, so to speak, valuewise.
  6. That's what I'm saying, brine is a salty liquid. A brined chicken is so juicy and delicious- I think that the salt breaks down the fibers in the flesh somehow, and the the bird's interior is bathed in it's liquid. salt, it's good. Also, the crust of salted fat on cow meats or lamb is just so irresistible! I only cook meats rare to medium rare for roasts, though, so my results may differ from other peoples'.
  7. I salt before, unless am eating raw flesh, then I just salt! Aslo, there is nothing as good to me, as a roasted kosher chicken, and they are salted LONG before cooking. edited by me to say: roaseted! lol alos, aslo, what's up with THAT? I'm goofy.
  8. We had a nice Shabbat this week! My #1boy has come for a visit, so we had 3 at the table. We had pan sauteed scrod, Greek style, with steamed and then sauteed string beans and a fresh, very sweet challah! A wonderful and simple dinner! Oh, and I got the job! I am a local route salesperson for a company that distributes ethnic and specialty products to grocers, with a nice emphasis on Kosher products, including Manischewitz!
  9. No lace? Wow, I last visited in June, 2005. My friend mentioned something to me a few weeks ago about them putting out cards with Reservations- call: on them the last time that he was there, too. Did they renovate away the patios, too? Still, glad to hear the food is still decent. I'll be there in late July, and I'll just have to see for myself, but, all this newfangled modernism, Hmmmppf!
  10. Happy Birthday, Klary! You always write about the most interesting things, I can't wait! I DO have a question for you. Is the mayonnaise you get over there on your fried potatoes different than the mayonnaise we make at home here? Every time I see those fries in a cone, with immense dollops of mayonnaise atop them, I can't help but wonder.
  11. Well, you can never refuse to try a new condiment, now, can you?
  12. The only thing I think might not go with chocolate is fish! And, even then, if done right, some sweet shrimp, fried and dipped...
  13. Isn't it extremely joyful when things like that happen? Yes, it happens to me quite a bit. I tip extra in those cases that I get perks in places that have service staff. Because I expected to pay for the item in the first place, not as a bribe for more perks, mind you! I even tipped the guys at the service station when they comped me an oil change last week. I think the fact that I brought them Passover cookies and milk (for no reason, I just had some extra and thought they might like a snack) may have been why they comped me, so don't get your panties in a bunch thinking I'm some hottie! Although, well, I HOPE that I am!
  14. Ah, inane of me, yes? Friends-Select it is. We head there for her camp meetings and then we veer, um, West, a number of streets, and a little South, I think. Or, it could be the opposite. There is an L shaped strip center with a really big Asian market and a couple of noodle places. There also seem to be lot of people having their social nights there. Further are a bunch of streets with names of trees, some of the kids live there, so I play uber mommy and squire them around with us. We usually find great little places to eat (if we don't eat at RTM) but once we were talked into a place called Maggiano's or something similar, it seemed like a family style Macaroni Grill. I think it's called Center City in parts, but I'm never sure. I can find my way around anywhere, but I'm a fuzzy thinker, to the nth degree. Street numbers? Ha! I laugh in the face of such attempts at organization!
  15. Sandy, Thank you so much for everything this week. We adore Philadelphia, but we've mostly stayed near the Friends School area (pho! a huge Asian market!) and the RTM 'til now. You're not far from us, so we hope to visit more of the city soon. We've added so many things to our list of must eats from this blog that we feel full already. Also, kiddle wants me to let you know that she is taking the trains into Philly this weekend, the first trip that Mommy doesn't chauffeur. Your photos and descriptions are WITHOUT PEER. Too bad we all don't get to hear that karaoke, though! I'm going to sign off here, and I will catch your last posts later tonight, as I go to my new job right now. (yay!) SANDY, THANKS- you're the best virtual guide on the internet!
  16. Whenever I find pastries of such a fine quality, being a simple home baker, I'm always wondering, how do you all sell them so cheaply? I haven't a lot of money or anything, but it seems to me that a nice cake, even a small one, should be at least US$30 dollars, and yet, there they are, US$20! How do you do that and still make a living? It's like an amazing cookie that's only one dollar, or a US$3.50 dollar tart, how do you do that?
  17. So, tell us, do androids dream of electric tarts? Wegman's looks very nice, and their prices are pretty upscale, too. I'm just wondering at the ingredients. You see, in October I was shopping for a simple buttercream frosted cake in my new home state-NJ. Wegman's (in October, mind you) used a shortening and corn syrup based frosting, or a "whipped creme" choice, according to the nice guy there in the Freehold bakery. He was kind enough to show me the buckets, and offer me a taste, but, err, no, thank you, and thanks for sending me to the local guy who does make a genuine buttercream, for a price. Which I gladly paid. I still go to Wegman's, they're honest and friendly! And, they have a wall of candy that my nieces adore. I take my job as the spoiler of nieces very seriously. All junk is allowed, if desired. Even the bionic kind. edited, for my own pleasure.
  18. I paid $3.99 for a 4 pack in Foodtown. I LIKE the small bottles, it's just not necessary for me to have a huge bottle, after all, it's not water. BUT, I would thrill to a change in recipe. Why not offer a premium soda with cane sugar instead of those other sweeteners? And, the packaging is an abomination. On that alone, it isn't going to fly.
  19. Gosh, a Twinkie. Nope, can't do it, we're having fresh pineapple tonight, or the poor fruit will get tossed, it's so ripe! Maybe tomorrow, if I feel strong enough to handle the corn syrup kick!
  20. I gave myself a sugar headache the other day, drinking too much of this stuff alongside 2 pieces of chocolate mousee cake. Next time I'll skip the cake!

    Licorice

Yes! Yes! What ever happened to those???? I loved them both!! ← I don't think they're in production any longer. At least, I can't locate them through my various nefarious 'sources', internet and otherwise! But, there is an Irish licorice, Oatfield Licorice Toffee, that a nice boy sent me recently . It's pretty close to the Callard & Bowser licorice of my memories. I think I'll have to take a piece of it to my local candy monger and have him research it. He's very nice, but not too able to accomodate my searches, it seems. I asked for him to get the kosher Haribo Twin Cherries gummies (solely distributed by Paskez), but he says that he isn't able to buy them . I asked him to try and find Katja DropVis for me (it's a mildly salted licorice that's dipped in sugar crystals). I'm willing to buy an entire case at a time, and I told him so. He just couldn't be bothered. I'm just one girl, so I can't actually consume enough candy for my special quirks to be worth his while, I suppose. I need to form a candy grrl gang.
  22. What, are you all CRAZY?! I ADORE food, but c'mon! It's cute to say, but there's no way anyone could really mean it. Food is number 3, tied with 'media', and I am a big eater! Sex, well, the only thing that beats THAT is raising kids, and we all know how kids usually happen, so... although, the Sunday paper, a decent CD, a cup of ibrik coffee, some cake and fruit, a boy to share it with... well, there you go, you need the sex for that to sound perfect, I rest my case. Sheesh, since when am I the voice of reason? Fresser, you need to wear better dresses, you're not attracting the right girls, is all.
  23. My Barbie was "cooked" in the EasyBake. I just visited my dad and noted that he still uses the box that the Easy Bake came in, for storage!
