  1. OK, here's my idea: a bagel, with a hot dog grilled into a ring shape, topped with baked beans. Reall, no chocolate chips, please. It's a bagel, not a cookie!
  2. Sandy! Philly! We LOVE Philly, and you! I second Chufi's post, show us your fridge, dearie. You've seen your share, it's your turn! For eGullet blogs, there ought'a be a law.
  3. That sounds like GREAT stuff! I'm really charmed by the curried chicken in a 'cup', you rarely see that kind of tid bit anymore, and it's so gorgeous and nice to eat, besides! I'm going to make a version of it for my next shindig. edited by me, for extra wordage!
  4. That Manalapan Foodtown has very nice service, my favorite food store, although they don't carry everything. I stocked up twice on my KFP Coca Cola there.
  5. Geez, you're injury twins. Something tells me that you BOTH need some liquid medication tonight! I can FEEL those cuts in my own hand, ack. So terrible. My heart goes out to you both!
  6. My neighbor grows a watermelon vine in front of his place. It IS silly looking, but you can bet we are happy to accept a melon!
  7. Oh, Marlene, just reading your post, I can FEEL the pain! SOB.
  8. We want to plant corn! I think that all of the animals and birds here would eat it, though, no? The neighbors' kids decimated a number of our tomato plants last year, they though the flowers were pretty.
  9. Just as always, Pam, you're a treasure! Thank you for being such a joy to be around! (We love that you keep counts of things, it's so fun to know!)
  10. I'm thinking they should be boiled, then baked.
  11. When I think of Subway I think of my 10 year old niece who harbors a not so secret fetish for the Subway small turkey sandwich, lettuce and tomato, nothing else. She LOVES their bread. Mommy doesn't take her there anymore, SO... she begs her very accomodating Aunt Rebecca to. I get my chip fix (2 bags!) every time we go, which is about once every school semester. Honestly, it isn't terrible, especially since they always have great chips to try, and ten year old niece thinks that it just the best junk food in the world! How easy for me, 10 bucks once every few months, a junkie snack with great company, and I'm the sub-versively fun aunt. That said, I wouldn't want to go there for dinner. It's strictly a lunch place, to me. Maybe because I like chips for lunch. If I can't have ice cream for lunch, which is my five year old niece's food fetish, and is an entirely different thread.
  12. I'm just wondering, WHY a cocoa bagel for the Red Sox? Cocoa isn't indicative of Boston, as far as I know. My dad's a Red Sox fan, so I am, too. Why not a caramel and peanut (for popcorn) bagel? Or a plain bagel with a seafood spread? Heck, a pretzel bagel with ball park mustard! OK, I'm stopping now, but you get my point.
  13. This post came in the beginning of the thread. In my opinion, Goldie got it right, right away.
  14. This thread disturbs me. I think of my fellow eGulleteers as a friendly, loving lot of folks. To me, food is more than mere sustenance, and I imagine this is so for everyone on eGullet, else why be here? So, why would anyone want to foist any food on someone who wouldn't want it, whether an allergy or not? I find that attitude so mean spirited. I'll tell you this. I don't care what someone's reasoning is, if they say they're allergic, or unable to eat something, I accomodate them, with a smile and sincere goodwill. I WANT you to have a pleasurable experience eating with me, in a restaurant or in my home, and I'm not going to trick you or "educate" you on allergies etc. We're going to eat meals that have no offending foods in them, and hopefully enjoy being together to eat said meals. You know, I've fed numerous different kinds of folk, with different food 'requirements'. Vegans, vegetarians, fruitarians, WW, Atkins, South Beach Dieters, models who only ingest seafood and lemons , Kosher, Muslim, diabetic, arthritic, food allergies, fussy eaters, the bread 'addict', damaged livers AND the toughest of all- a dozen 8 year olds for a VERY LONG weekend. Honestly, part of the pleasure of feeding all of those people, for me, is in knowing that I've taken some of the stress of their own lives off of them for a few hours, or days, and given them food that they could truly enjoy, without a worry. I suggest that we all try to be more easygoing, and let go of any desires to 'correct' other peoples' reasons for not eating certain items. They'll be happier, and ultimately, so will we. And that, to me, is the essence, the reason, for being a foodie. Being a foodie, to me, is NOT fulfilled by a need to 'train' those around me to eat what I think is desirable, but it is a desire for more personal pleasure and satisfaction, and ultimately, more happiness.
  15. Cream cheese and strawberry preserves. But, no, I really adore my salt bagel.
  16. I'm sitting here with my KFP Coca Cola, very happy! I've had to budget the calories of the soda into my diet, I'm drinking so much! I haven't been able to find that CokeBlak in a KFP version, too bad.
  17. We just have a townhouse with a tiny patio. Around the edges we plant: Tomatoes, rosemary, strawberries, pumpkin, some melon, but we can't remember what; I guess we'll see!
  18. All of this arguing has no value BECAUSE: the best Tabbouleh in the world is made in my humble kitchen, in New Jersey, by me, a Syrian/Italian. My daughter assures me it is thus,, and I have accepted the accolades with grace. I have also been assured by many friends and family, that the best tabbouleh in the world is served in their mother's kitchens, as well. Tabbouleh is not some licensed recipe, it's a peasant dish, and has minor variations that do not detract. I disagree with Nicolai, who states that there is only one place that makes it to perfection, unless he admits to the truth. HIS mother makes the best, just like everyone else's mother does! I might add, no pepper in my tabbouleh! I've eaten many a tabbouleh in Lebanese homes as well, and never enocuntered pepper in it that I could discern, so I'm flummoxed. Don't think I'll be testing Nicolai's version, though. I have my accolades, and why mess with perfection?

    Carrots

We roast our chicken with cinnamon and cumin as a standby dish, and I like to roast carrots in the pan alongside. It's a delicious flavor combination. We also like to oven roast carrots, with just a drizzle of olive oil on them. roasted carrots are delicious! And, we slice carots and steam them, then serve them with olive oil and toasted pine nuts. But, favorite preparation in our house is still, plain steamed whole carrots.
  20. KP Coca Cola is one of the best things about Passover. It means Spring! I tried that Coke Blak last week, but it was loaded with a corn syrup taste. Too bad, the ginger aftertaste in Coca Cola is perfect with coffee.
  21. Happy Passover everyone! I'm off to the airport to pickl up my kiddle, then going to my sister's for an amazing evening, and an amazing meal. (I was there this morning and snuck a few yebra, yum!) Yes, the food is important, and we are eGulletereers here, but even more 2wonderful is the fact that we all have friends and family around us, and are sharing our traditions. Next year in Jerusalem! edited by me to say: 'pickl up my kiddle' heehee!
  22. Thank you, Pam! Happy Passover, and I wish you a good night's rest sometimes this week, too.
  23. Kiddle is flying in the morning. I just checked her snack bag for the flight. She has packed sugar free Bazooka gum, Trident, A Fuze Energize drink, a Starbucks light Frappucino, MY Evian spray(hmmm), a sandwich bag of Neopets IslandBerry Crunch cereal(General Mills, 3g fiber per serving), 2 apples, a sandwich bag of grapes and a box of strawberry Pocky. Should I remind her that it is only a 2 1/2 hour flight to Fort Lauderdale?
  24. Oh, dear! Resigning doesn't necessarily mean legacy participant status, so let's hope that Rosie and gang et al CONTINUE to brighten our wonderful, complex ever changing eGullet! Rosie, here's a rose for you! @-------------------
  25. Hello Pam! How do you manage such energy? Kiddle says it is because you can eat a cookie whenever you want! We both adore you here! So glad to see you blogging for us, we always enjoy watching you in the kitchen.
