  1. I'm Sephardic. We eat a LOT of rice. I adore rice. I ADORE brown rice! edited by me to add: breakfast, lunch or dinner!
  2. Kibbeh nayeh! I like it best with tomato in it.
  3. Ling, are you taking orders? Actually, I agree with the honey proviso. I find that any baked goods that we make with applesauce substituted for some of the fats work very well for shipment.
  4. Hydrox cookies, I loved them when I was a child, and Oreo's are NOT the same at all. And Horelick's Malted Milk Tablets. Get me some, someone?
  5. I NEED someone to make coffee fo, and tell fortunes to, as well, these days! No coffee for Rebecca anymore . Not even decaf.
  6. The drawing is sweet, the land is gorgeous, and Fred is quite adorable with that tilt of his head as he looks at you.
  7. quote=Flocko "Ed was a close friend..." eGullet is one of the places where I am constantly reminded of how small the world can really be... Wow, you are a lucky person, and I admit, have risen in my esteem a great deal, just with this one simple bit of your ken!
  8. A favorite writer of mine, Ed Abbey!, lived in/around Moab. Thanks, dear Flocko/Bill, for bringing good memories of good words to my heart with this blog!

    Tartar(e)

I am huge fan of the raw meat. For beef, even when I am served it in a restaurant, I rarely eat it with the accompaniments. I usually mix them all into a msall bowl after, for a silly composed salad! At home, I do prefer to have some balsamic vinegar, at times. I dip the tines of my fork into the vinegar, then pick up the beef. Or, a very small amount of Kosher salt, mixed sometimes with a bit of pulsed rosemary, sprinkled atop the beef. But, that is only if the beef lasts long enough to get from the chopping board to the plate!
  10. It's never really over, as long we all remain in touch through eGullet, so I'm not going to shed a tear, but, this has been such a rollicking good blog, I'm sad for it to end, and I thank you, from the bottom of my pink satin Pumas.
  11. ... no matter where your travel leads, you can find an instant companion to share an interesting meal with...
  12. So touching Dave. Thank you. I only hope to live long enough to be an old woman to my daughter, with attendant differing habits from her more sophisticated, younger ones.
  13. I don't think so, unless Susan isnt a lesbian anymore. I've met all three of them ( I had an interview with Josh) and in my opinion, there is something fishy going on!! ← This quotation has me laughing so hard that I lost a contact lense! Randi, you are a witty, sub-VERSIVE girl!
  14. Gee, we play with food all of the time here! But, the things that immediately came to my mind were the following two memories: Read this thread and find out why... I'm qualified to say that I DO not recommend this activity. making lickable stickers with many a child over the years, using Kojel and drawings on paper
  15. Shabbat Shalom, everyone! We're having bean soup. It's esy, and I'm too tired to do anything else. No challah, no bread at all, I just couldn't get to the bakery. Thank you for thinking of me.
  16. I have found that I am only friendly towards my ex boyfriends' girls in the cases where: said boy was , erm, "talented" but not a good fit in other ways, OR said boy was dumped by me, not because he wasn't nice, but because he wasn't, you know, erm, "talented" . I just wonder which category this Josh fellow falls under? Oh, back to the food related bit, it sounds kind of dull, unless there's some fun from the threesome.
  17. I'm really NO HELP here at all, but yesterday afternoon I walked on 1st Ave from E67 St. to E46 St. and on the east side of the avenue I passed a shop with tons of marzipan items in the window. Including cookies! I actually even think that the word marzipan was featured on the canopy signage.
  18. Being Syrian, one of my favorite meals is a platter of Syrian basket cheese, some really soft, fresh pitas, and an obscene amount of soft, almost black, fatty, rich, salty 'Syrian' olives. There are so many varieties of salt cured olives at the groceries, it's hard to remember which ones are my likes and dislikes, and I often end up having to buy 3 containers in order to get the 'best' ones. My lovely foodie child does not eat olives! Or capers, for that matter, what a weird kiddle I have raised. As for green olives, my #1 boy always has 3 in his gin martini, and I get 2 of them! At home I keep a jar of Manzanilla olives stuffed with pimento, just for those martinis. Did you ever notice that they have lactic acid in the ingredients? I always wondered why, no other olives seem to. Oh, and for what it's worth, I ADORE those lye processed black olives, the immense (super colossal) ones are the best! My favored method of preparation is also the fingertip method.
  19. ooh, lemon juice on a salty french fry, that sounds DELISH!
  20. This IS one of the funniest of food blogs on eGullet. THANKS Lady M!
  21. Gee, you guys have iron constitutions! I can't eat ANYTHING even remotely salty when I fly. I always pack fruit, fruit, fruit and carrots.
  22. When I was diagnosed with late stage cancer, recently, I vowed to eat french fries, for the rest of my life, at any whim! I must have eaten 7 orders of fries in the last month! I even ate french fries with my dessert order at a diner! However, in the last week, I haven't eaten them ONCE. Wah, they are too fried for me right now! I can eat a LOT of dairy fats, let me tell you, but fried foods are just not appealing these days. Damned radiation!
  23. That is he most beautiful kamodo I have ever seen. Do you ever bake bread in it?
  24. Oh, Fabby, I'm having such a good time reading your blog! I'm really having an off day, my kiddle made a meal that I am regretting eating even before we eat it. I am forced to buy her every food magazine known to man and yet tonight I get an oven baked piece of chicken and some steamed FROZEN veggies, plain. Can you send me some of the scraps you've been saving since JeanLuc went on a diet, please?
