An English man who, in 1996, after a lifetime in academia specialising in forensic linguistics, accidentally chose to live in China. Now spends his time eating, drinking, taking photographs, translating and writing, mainly for Chinese food, wine and travel magazines. Spends a lot of time in the middle of nowhere trying to work out what is going on. Usually fails.
