a troll i sorta agree with tho.

yes but it's not alcoholic.

*lol* at always underexpecting. What part of the South are you in? And how do you tell a fresh fig anyway? Did your orange cranberry taste like a pomegranate?
-
i'm glad i wasn't the only one that noticed that. rocco's looking a little rough around the edges tho. Love that Tony got a KC shoutout fromt hat one waiter. that was hilarious. I just saw the rerun of epi 1 last night - didn't stay up to see epi 2.
-
i love that it's served by Dante himself. (or one of his managers)
-
slightly OT - was it in one of Madhur's books that an anecdote was made about being at some party and eating with the left hand versus what the floor was made of? if yes, which book please? if no - where the heck did i come up with that anecdote? Time-Life maybe? (i doubt it tho)

i use it for steaming all steamable veggies.

whilst thinking about figs i just realized - I hate dates. can't eat them. ever since visiting date plantations in Saudi Arabia and having that sickly sweet, kinda pungent, gasoliney (not good gasoline, btw)smell waft up - made me sick to my stomach.
-
*lmao* @ the "fig newton nose" i was jsut thinkign to myself - i think the only fig i've ever eaten has been in a fig newton. figures it would sell to the college kids. on a sidenote - i'm going to make a point to eat fresh figs this year.
-
did you make the fig vodka, ledlund, or buy it? if bought - what's the name please?
-
organ meats. feet. heads. i guess offal in general. other than that - i guess i dislike rutabega for it's dirty sweatsock smell.
-
glad you could use it. i actually got it from one of my bartender friends. he made ti up for me when i couldn't figure out what i wanted to mix the orange with. he may have added a touch of grenadine. i like the sour mix idea too.

man...i miss fried clams. those are my favoritest fried food ever. i'll even order them at Freindly's.
-
corned beef hash, when cooked til it's crispy is good stuff. i get what you're saying tho. ever since i switched my cats to canned food, i've been hesitant to eat meat in a can. the smells are too similar.

I'm not a native of Balitimore and I'm sure someone can give a more detailed explanation but to me, pit beef is basically roast beef on a kaiser roll. I go to a local place north of Baltimore and watch them cook it on the cooler side of the charcol grill they use to cook burgers and chicken breasts and a few other things. The beef gets sliced off and dunked into a pan of gravy before being put onto a roll. Its not a wet beef sandwich like in Chicago. I usually get mine with mayo, horseradish and bar-b-que sauce. And if the timing is right you can get the ends of the beef that gets too well done to put into a sandwich. I'm not a native of Balitimore and I'm sure someone can give a more detailed explanation. The pit beef from Andy Nelson's north of the cityis probably the best pit beef sandwich I've had since I moved here although at Nelson's its kind of a lost item compared to the ribs and the brisket. I thought that Baltimore was a crab and seafood place but I've been here about two years and everytime there is some kind of event its been bar-b-que everytime. They may be famous for crabcakes but pig rules. slowday thank you slowday! this actually sounds yummy. personally i don't like italian beef - it's too mushy and messy. pit beef sounds yum tho. i would definitely hang out all day waiting for the end pieces.

i can't believe i forgot about limca. i like that one as well. because of this thread i had my first jarritos this weekend. i chose the tamarind flavor. yum. i'm no longer going to drink US sodas. If the option for an import is available i'm choosing that. this decision is for one reason and one reaosn only. high fructose corn syrup. it's not my friend.
-
i think they're kind of lame actually. might as well use white grape juice. i mean the coolest thing about cranberrys are hteir bracing tartness. i just find the white cranberry useless. it isn't even good for UTIs. but i'm sure all of your cocktails taste great beans. :)
-
hey now. spam rocks.
-
good for them. i actually decided over the weekend that i'm no longer drinking american soda or soft drinks, because of the use of high fructose corn syrup.

mandarin plus cranberry juice tastes like a pomegranate.

you know, after sitting thru 3 hours worth of it, i have to say i enjoyerd it. and trust me i would have flipped the channel if i wasn't totally engrossed. Alton definitely needs a sidekick. or perhaps she should be out on the floor being wacky and zany, with a straightman up in the box. I'm not particularly pleased wiht the panel of judges for the most part. altho i did like Ted, And Paige from trading spaces. Steingarten was one tough critic. However the others who popped up, well i just don't trust that they actually have palates, save for the chef that was on. Pussy Bompansero? no business tasting avant garde iron chef dishes. Might be why we have such an anti-original iron chef slant going with the final results. perhaps the japanese-made dishes were a bit too esoteric for yankee palates. or perhaps they just tasted like shite. i don't know.

ding-ding-ding! this being the very reason for the start of the British Empire.

yellow for cooking, red for raw.

that sorbet trick is brilliant.

i'm not surprised. i have never heard of these people until today.
