  1. I'm glad he posted that bit about the credit card authorization. Recently I had that issue with a downtown restaurant and was furious. We'd had an issue with the server due to our decision to order drinks, multiple appetizers and dessert (the restaurant was less than 50% full) so I initially thought that she might have tried to pull a fast one. I kept my cool when I called the restaurant and it's a good thing - I would have been really embarassed once the situation was resolved in this no-fault way.
  2. Darn...someone beat me to 'foodie.' Oh, and when someone puts extra-special emphasis on salumi to demonstrate how they know the difference between salumi/salami. I mean, yes, you're right and it's nice to know the phraseology, but great salumi...and oh! the salumi...and have you tried the salumi? in one post? 'Offal' because it's obvious relation (and homophone): awful. After reading the Pure Food and Wine thread in New York, I'll probably cringe the next time I see "tartare" on a menu after anything other than "steak."
  3. Very cool, Busboy.
  4. I bought another pound of blueberries today. Washing them, I had such a wonderful food memory... Growing up in PA, I ate a snack cake from Old River Road Bakery all summer, every summer. Basic buttery cake, lumps of blueberries all over the top, some crumb topping and a very thin drizzle of icing. How I wish I had that recipe! The bakery has since closed.
  5. Slightly off topic... I am having such a craving for a "Blueberry Delight" from Old River Road Bakery. They closed all (or most) of their storefronts, right? I have a pound of blueberries - how I wish I could recreate that recipe!!
  6. Would you mind posting your carnitas recipe?
  7. Steve was talking about this guy. The photos are amazing (look at the Special Event section for cakes appropriate for a kiddie birthday)...but the prices might be too. Sorry if that's no help.
  8. NulloModo has enormous...chiles. Nice. I've been to New-ark. It only took three or four pronunciation corrections for us to catch on. Good luck with the blog!
  9. While I eat 'em (daily - Cosi is in my DC office building), it's such a silly concept.
  10. I'm with Jinmyo. No disrespect as I applaud innovation, but this is all akin to science fiction to me. Fortunately, I'm not your target demo. I'm a meat eater (big time) and don't even like mainstream cold/room temp stuff like salads. No joke.
  11. Nice recap, Busboy. You covered a lot of ground!
  12. Excellent M and 21st is near my office. Thanks I really liked Decibel's grungy, edgy, underground feel...sake, great food, and techno at 1am...very cool That's a great block...my friend owns a bar near Decibel called Solas. I spent many a drunk evening there (and used the bathroom at Starbucks at the corner of 2nd Ave way more times than I care to remember when the line at Solas was too long).
  13. My mouth was in that same open position when I first saw the lips. Off-topic but funny: The Detroit Pistons had a pretty funny bathroom promotion during the NBA Finals.
  14. Did the earth move for you, too, Jason?? What exactly is "semi discreet sex"? Yeah...it's discreet. Or it ain't.
  15. Can someone please PM me a link to the favorite cookbooks thread? I have a Barnes & Noble gift card that needs to be used...
  16. Bump...because this is an excellent thread. Who has the latest and greatest bathrooms?
  17. Sister, I am on a low-carb diet so no problem there. In fact I may have meat with a side of meat I'll eat your potatoes! (file that under "phrases that sound dirty, but aren't)
  18. Skip the apps and save more room for MEAT.
  19. I suspect there are quite a few EG types who might volunteer for such duty.
  20. Patsel's is definitely more upscale than a lot of places in the area. I personally don't find it to be snooty, but then again, everyone's experiences are different. I've never made it there for dinner, just brunch. The place is really colorful and lively; the food, IMHO, very tasty. Try it. As for Club 17, I always liked the double-crust white. mmmm
  21. Stan - where in NEPA are you from? I grew up less than a mile from Maxie's. How about Club 17 - opinions?
  22. If I'm TOO gentle with you, your girlfriend might just kick my ass...
