  1. Someone is not a fan of Restaurant Eve edited by request
  2. Tom needs to revisit egullet
  3. Sounds like DC. Quite hot, very humid - UGH. You should see my hair. It is BIG. I look like a Solid Gold dancer. Plus we have the whole State funeral thing going on...DC is, well, it's DC.
  4. This is one of those instances where you read or hear a sentence and realize that it has probably never been written or said in the history of the English language. It's the perfect combination of vowels and consonants, concepts and images...I love it.
  5. I thought the event you outlined previously sounded interesting and fun, but I don't think those of us on more restrictive budgets can keep up.
  6. The Fraggles ate the radishes. The Doozers built with radishes. The Gorgs grew the radishes. I didn't have HBO growing up and was so bitter about it. My parents would NOT cave. I used to go to a friend's house and she'd want to play games and stuff, but all I wanted to do was watch Grease 2 and something scandalous listed as "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Sex..." (which I later learned was a Woody Allen flick, NOT an instructional segment) on HBO. The kids at school were always talking about Fraggle Rock and I couldn't keep up. So now I'm off, living on my own and have not one but like 8 HBO stations. Happy times, right? And my parents? They have HBO plus Cinemax, Showtime, all of it.
  7. The Ronald Reagan International Trade Building is on the SE corner of Pennsylvania and 14th (?). I know it because it is the home of USAID, among other government agencies. You can't miss it. It's the ugly thing that used to be the home of "jordan's" Sorry, that one I know. I should have been more specific. My bad!
  8. For those of us who remain somewhat clueless about DC's geography (in spite of living here for awhile), could you please post coordinates?
  9. Mark - I'll fight you for the title... The clientele of the GG on Veazey/Connecticut is not exactly the down-at-heels, but I wouldn't call the folks high society either. Lots of them bought condos in the hidden Van Ness East building and now tout its tunnel to Giant as a reason they're glad to be tenants. Seriously. It's brought up more than you can imagine.
  10. Tommy, where is Madame Claude's in relation to Journal Square (sorry, I failed geography)?
  11. I think the Giant at Veazey and Connecticut could give the Senior Safeway (wait, there IS one of those, right?) a run for its money. Totally the Geriatric Giant. Gross Giant (it's pretty dirty) just isn't as melodic. And the woman who manages the deli at the Geriatric Giant is the meanest thing out there.
  12. And to think that the producers might have worried going in that not enough would happen to make things interesting...
  13. Judge lets Rocco in... but only to take photos.
  14. This place sounds like a little slice of heaven! For those of us who are not that familiar with Philadelphia, whereabouts is it in terms of neighborhoods?
  15. Rubber chicken for you and your dog? Woof-woof Black tie optional.
  16. Does National Geographic Traveler count?
  17. Either I have a juvenile sense of humor (very possible) or I think it's really brave of the chef to have the phrase "pea sauce" on a menu.
  18. I like the chorizo with garlic mashed, the patatas bravas (clearly I'm a carb lover), the various cheese offerings, the asparagus. Somehow I've always left so stuffed that I haven't had room for Steve's desserts. Next trip, I will somehow avoid loading up on tapas in order to sample the truly good stuff he puts out.
  19. What's up with the OG menu overall (indoors)?
  20. Derek Jeter and Reggie Jackson like Plataforma
  21. Ingrid, you're hilarious. Loved it!
  22. Puxa!! Que palavres horrivel! Faca-te uma caipirinha, meu bem! Voce vai ficar mais calma! No se fala Portugues
  23. No worries. We stay at the home of a family friend so we do have access to a kitchen. The only problem is that my tastes tend to run to the less healthy breakfasts (read: bacon, sausage, etc.) and I try not to eat those things around my father who had a heart attack a few years back!! He's fine now, but I try not to be a bad influence, you know...
  24. I'm probably in the minority, but I still miss Riodizio downtown. The food (IMHO) was always good, but it also had an atmosphere that, while less "traditional", was a lot of fun for a night out with friends.
