  1. So, has anyone been to Vida?? That pretty much failed as a nightclub. If its still there I would be surprised. When a club does a 'Playboy Bunny' night its usually a sign that things are going south... I've been there for drinks (not on Playboy Bunny night though!) and it was just ok. You can do much, much better.
  2. There is a tendency to associate "fresh" with "healthfulness." I, for one, never considered my burrito at Chipotle to be a healthy selection (but then again, I also skip the veggies in favor of sour cream and cheese!). But I didn't think of sodium and wasn't aware of the possibility of loads of sodium in the tortilla. I have always considered myself to be fairly informed as a consumer and tend to be frustrated by people who don't ask questions (people who want to sue McDonald's for making them fat, anyone?), but in this case, I think I have missed something. Thanks for the info. This calls to mind people who order vegetarian offerings in restaurants or delis because they think it's a uniformly healthy choice. Ha! My favorite soup at High Noon - a vegetarian corn chowder - is probably the least healthful soup there as it is thickened with feta and several other cheeses. Oh well... I'm rambling now and will stop.
  3. I'm considering it, but I have commitment issues.
  4. OK, we get it: you hate the food in Rehoboth!!
  5. Is that in US$?
  6. This is another reason I'm glad: 1. it takes me two sittings to finish the sucker 2. I have low blood pressure (not that too much sodium is a good thing, but it's also less of a problem). But damn! I sure could go for a burrito tonight, but instead I'll be having mini burgers or pizza.
  7. And appropriately enough, the one I saw on the strip in Vegas had a sign full of lights. Still, when I was in NYC this past weekend it was weird to see Chipotle there. I walked by the one in the East 40s and gasped on St. Mark's Place (even though I had 1. received advance warning and 2. really like Chipotle).
  8. I like Baja Fresh except for their tortillas which I think are pretty awful in terms of bland-ness. And with Mexican food...well, I don't need to tell you that the tortilla is pretty important to a lot of dishes.
  9. Mmm, churros sound GOOD. Does anyone know what their policy on just ordering drinks and dessert is?
  10. I thought I'd revive this thread to pay tribute to my favorite cheap and easy meal. Though I'm sure it will just dissolve into sniping about McDonald's or similar based on the kind of posts we've had this week! My favorite Chipotle burrito Chicken Light on the rice Extra black beans Hot salsa, but not too much because it destroys my stomach Cheese Sour cream NO LETTUCE EVER (I hate lettuce ) All washed down in two sittings with a Sprite (or a 50/50 if I have some on-hand). <burp>
  11. Woody, I have some Rehoboth-update questions for you: Have you found any good Indian spots in the area? How about middle Eastern? Have you been to the Cultured Pearl lately? If so, how was it? I haven't been there in years and was thinking of taking a sushi-loving friend there this summer.
  12. Bump! About rice at Rice
  13. From today's Tom Sietsema chat: Silver Spring, Md.: I heard a rumor that the very talented, newly James Beard awarded chef, Ann Cashion, is planning to open a restaurant in Silver Spring. What do you know? Tom Sietsema: It’s true! Ann is the muse behind the forthcoming Jackie’s, which will open in early August near the Discovery headquarters. Named for co-owner Jackie Higgins, a real estate maven, the restaurant will feature Cashion protege Sam Adkins, who plans to do seasonal food in a “streamlined” version of Cashion’s menu, says his former boss. Ann has worked on both the kitchen design and the menu in the space, which used to house an auto garage.
  14. Yes, but unkempt people don't give me hives, or an asthma attack. Dogs and cats do. Again, ditto. There are lot of us allergic-types around. Sorry, but you're stuck with us.
  15. Ditto (seems like I'm saying that a lot lately).
  16. On my very first night living in NYC, my college friend Sarah invited me to join her and her older, wiser, cooler friends at System (now Spa, I think). I was 21 and renting a filthy dorm room from NYU until I could find a place of my own. When she told me to meet them there (instead of them coming to get me at 3rd and 11th), I was seriously stressed...about getting lost, about getting in, mostly about getting mugged so I took the mace my father insisted I accept from him as my final moving-in gift. The club itself was fun if not completely memorable. But I can't walk up 3rd Ave to this day without laughing at myself for thinking of myself as being brave for walking all five blocks by myself. Big bad city back, right?
  17. Sorry, didn't have time to look ahead.
  18. And I don't mean to be harsh in my response, but I don't see it as all that funny. I enjoy wine, loved (and love) learning about it, etc. But to find it funny that not everyone is as informed...?
  19. Some of us are very alergic to your pooches Ditto.
  20. I ended up in NYC for Mother's Day so I canceled my Ardeo res. hjshorter?
  21. Is that 5 pm on a weeknight?
  22. How would this work? Where would it take place? Etc. Etc.
  23. I think that's meant to convey drooling with desire, no??
  24. Stacks has in fact closed. From today's Tom Sietsema chat: a public relations maven wants us to know that "a very incorrect rumor was flying around that because Stacks closed that Signatures would be next. WRONG! Signatures and (chef) Morou are alive and kickin' with that amazing cuisine serving signature items like the delicious Lamb Tandoori to the exclusive Tasting Dinner for Two then the ever divine sushi."
  25. I too read "forget" as "avoid."
