  1. My old Canon Powershot (it's in the ELPH family). It's a few years old, but works great. And when it doesn't, Canon's customer service group treats me better than Ann Amernick ever would...
  2. Pro: Sette appears to have updated their online menu. Con: It's one of those pop-up pdf's that [on my computer] is slow to open.
  3. I got not one but THREE of those flavored olive oils from my well-intentioned (but utterly clueless) cousin. Making matters worse, they're odd infusions like raspberry. But flip side is that another cousin gave me a great set of Henckels. Love them.
  4. How did I miss that? I consider myself to be a stickler for spelling! I think I confused Minerva with the new DC Indian place that IS vegetarian only (thus my lack of interest).
  5. IMHO it should be a sin to even mention these two restaurants together. For those of us who have missed one or the other, why? Minerva is vegetarian only, right?
  6. Thanks for the recs. Aqua has come up. We have both Olives and Mon Ami Gabi here in DC (both are good though).
  7. Yo Rocks - wanna fix that subject line so we don't have newcomers out looking for "Hertiage"? I was downtown Friday night and saw Heritage's huge green neon sign and though "good lord..." but I'm glad to hear the food is good. If only they delivered.
  8. Well, I'm open to restaurant suggestions so...throw 'em out there! We're staying at Mandalay Bay. I've already eaten at Nobu, Nectar (I think that's what it was called) and Border Grille. Not totally into leaving the Strip, to be perfectly honest. And we tend to avoid places like Olives that are outposts of restaurants we can visit back in DC or NY.
  9. Has anyone checked out the updated menu yet? I'm curious as to what I'll find tonight when I stop by with a friend.
  10. I'm hardly advocating that we all skip her doughnuts in favor of what you find at Dunkin Donuts. If Ann's creations are as marvelous as you all say (and I hope to try them one of these days), good for her. But business is business and she's in one. Customer service is one aspect that has to be considered or you can easily find ourself out of said business. If it's such a problem to make change, prepare accordingly, set minimums, whatever. If you don't like trend-olas buying your doughnuts, don't offer 'em. Blah. I wish I hadn't read this thread because it's going to be hard for me to cross Amernick's threshhold with a good attitude based on what I've read.
  11. Sheesh, I'm in. Ann's attitude, as a businesswoman, confounds me. Fine, she doesn't love selling doughnuts. Wants to differentiate between "true" lovers of her offerings and people who only try them because it's "trendy." Let her shoot herself in the foot - stop selling the damn doughnuts, Ann. But to not make change on a $20...? It's not a hundred dollar bill we're talking about. I guess I don't get the Amernick fuss. Why? Because it's CLOSED every time I try to check it out.
  12. I had no idea Ardeo had brunch and am so glad you mentioned this. I often struggle to find a good brunch in that vicinity (esp when my parents are in town) so instead we trek over to Peacock Cafe which I enjoy, but between paying for parking and waiting for a table, there's an aggravation factor.
  13. Mmm, breakfast. I looooooove breakfast. Tops would be french toast or blueberry pancakes with a choice of pork (in order of preference, bacon then sausage). When I'm in LA, I try to get to Blueberry in Santa Monica for that lovely meal. In Moosic, PA (near my hometown), it's the Moosic diner, conveniently located by the on-ramp to Route 81. Coffee, splash of milk, half a packet of sugar. When I lived in NYC, I got breakfast from the Grey Dog in Greenwich Village almost every day. Usually it was their delish banana blueberry bran muffin. What I wouldn't give to have such a muffin here in DC. I wonder if they'd freeze & ship... I also liked their oatmeal with lots of brown sugar and fruit chucked on top. More pork. Big skim iced latte to wash it all down. In my DC neighborhoods (work/home), my breakfast choices are limited and depressing. Usually I get a poppyseed bagel with cheddar cheese from Cosi.
  14. Nice post, Joe. I'm heading to Vegas in a few weeks and can't wait! I second your recommendation of the breakfast buffet at Paris (like you, I said "buffet??" but it's GOOD) and Nobu is indeed an experience. I made some "safety net" reservations via OpenTable.com. Dinner on that Friday night is tentatively set for Taqueria Canonita in the Venetian. Had a good, not expensive lunch there last trip. I'd rather try somewhere new, but for the time being, I'm just glad to have an option (and yes, I'll be sure to cancel well in advance if we opt not to use the res). Also made a reservation for Saturday night: Roy's. What do you think - yea or nay? I thought kitsch might = fun. Will accept your recommendations now... Not the Thai/Siam place though.
  15. Eunny, your story made me want to reconsider my next post, but... because I really am trying to like Thai food, I'll continue. Thai food has never really impressed me. I have always enjoyed Japanese, Chinese, Asian-fusion, etc. much more than Thai. But I'm trying. Help me out here: what are some good (non-seafood) dishes for me to try? PLM and I ordered from Sala Thai on Saturday. I had beef curry (red although it looked yellow to me ) and a chicken la-ab (larb) appetizer. It was all just "eh" to me. There were these noodle-like things in the curry, tasted like something from the onion family. Enlighten me - what WERE they anyway. PLM seemed to enjoy his sweet & sour duck (a substitution for pork) as well as an appetizer of dumplings (shrimp, crab and pork all in one - I tried one and it was very shrimpy. What a surprise.). Help me please. I'm trying to branch out.
  16. I saw that too, *HOWEVER* Page Six is NOT the most reliable source of information. I'd take May 1 with a grain of salt until I heard it from the source (directly).
  17. Ha! We might have been neighbors. 254 from August or September of '95 until some point in '97.
  18. Excellent. This has my vote too. The picky eater is in as long as: 1. Someone agrees to be my tour guide, and 2. That someone doesn't try to sneak in any stuff they know I won't eat.
  19. Food photos... Meat and other good stuff. Love that pork! Salumi, insalata caprese. Great bufala mozzarella. Delphine (Mrs. DCMark)'s pasta. mnebergall's skirt steak with spinach and the smallest potatoes he'd ever seen. I don't have dessert photos, but I think hillvalley might. Thanks for coming everyone. I had fun!
  20. People photos... cjsadler, bilrus, hannnah Mr. and Mrs. DCMark (Delphine) mdt, edemuth, Busboy, mnebergall, DCMark (and Mrs. DCMark), Al_Dente Mr. and Mrs. JPW (Leigh; Peanut not shown)
  21. Those are such great ideas, Busboy, that I'm not even going to give you a hard time for sneaking out last night. Great to meet you, even if only briefly.
  22. Weekends are tough for me. I much prefer weeknights.
