Sietsema always mentions it, says it's a gem. He also raves about the asparagus fest. Why don't you check it out and report back?

I can't see Jaleo being competition for Tosca on any level. Tapas vs. Italian Casual setting vs. more formal Inexpensive/moderate vs. moderate/expensive -
I like the bar, but not the food

How much do you wanna bet that in spite of all of the glorious suggestions, the visitors end up at The Cheesecake Factory? -
I think he's a little cute, but I wouldn't say hot. To each her own!

I know this is going to sound like heresy to this gang, but it *is* possible to have a meal without alcohol. -
I agree re: El Gaucho. We also loved Cuba's Cooking downtown.

At first glance, I thought this thread was going to be about the untimely end to the Spurs' season and Ginobli's role in it. Manu sounds like it's worth a visit. Haven't been.

Clearly I am confused this week (OK, most of the time, but particularly this week). I thought HH was TODAY. Oopsy.
-
I'd say $50 pp is a decent estimate with appetizer, entree and dessert, excluding tax, tip and alcohol.

Random comments... I think Morton's only has free tenderloin sandwiches on Monday, but I could be wrong. Zaytinya's cocktails are great, but the place gets PACKED making for a less than relaxing HH. "Quick, grab that chair!" I'd love to join you guys, but I have [as yet unconfirmed] dinner plans.

Michael reads this?? When I met him, he feigned ignorance (and I bought it like a dumbass).

Yes, drink-wise they have nice specials. But you do have to be right at the bar (not at the tables) to take advantage.
-
Well, for drinks, there's the aforementioned Ceiba (nice bar, pink backlight which is interesting), Zola (swank), Matchbox (really good specials at the bar)...well, you know.
-
Corduroy is kind of quiet for happy hour, no?

Ceiba...niiiiiiice. At the moment, I feel better equipped to discuss the cocktails than the food, but here goes anyway. Between my friend and me, we sampled...lemme think, six of their drinks? No, five. Caipiriniha (I had...two. I think.) Mango margarita (My friend had one, I tasted and loved, as it didn't taste overwhelmingly of tequila) Hemingway un-mojito (That was my name for it as I don't like a ton of mint. Yes, I know that's what makes a mojito a mojito, but this makes me, me.) Some kind of sunrise (Not tequila. Maybe Yucatan? It tasted like something you could get at Jamba Juice.) Um...what else? Thinking...thinking...counting...oh, regular mojito. There you go. For food, we had the queso fundido (awesome, but I can't say anything about it that hasn't already been said), churros (oh. my. I could eat them daily.) and flan (just good. I'd rather two orders of churros). Judging by my impairment (great), maybe I should have had more food. Waitress was weird as sh*t. At first I thought "she's friendly." I subsequently realized that she lacked the polish and knowledge-base of Ceiba's other servers. When she was reading (yes, reading - and not refering to a cheat sheet but reading word for word) the specials with weird hand gestures, she told us that fois gras was "like pate...but not." Then she alternately ignored us and scorned us (even though the dining room at 6:15 was empty) for order just apps and desserts and many drinks. Oh well, we still tipped nicely, more than 20%. And now I'm home, rather drunk as I am a lightweight.

Good places for Orange Flavor Chicken/Beef in NY?
JennyUptown replied to a topic in New York: Dining
Spices (here in good old Washington, DC). Sorry, Pan. I realize that's not very helpful. But their tangerine peel beef is a favorite of mine. -
I learn something new every day.

Panache: New restaurant opens on DeSales St.
JennyUptown replied to a topic in D.C. & DelMarVa: Dining
M - what were the prices like? I tried (and failed) to find a web site for Panache or a site listing their menu. -
I wonder whatever happened to salivate...3 posts, all on Mendocino, then never heard from again! Oh, and here's a link to the web site HOWEVER don't bother clicking for the printable menu right now - that still has the winter one.

Seriously, people always make fun of me growing up in the area, but I remember it fondly. I didn't make it out in Old Forge when I was home for Easter...ate [and drank] at Kyoto and had brunch at Patsel's. Not much changes in Old Forge, to be honest! I think you need to take the pizza tour folks through some of the divey bars in the area. Maybe Papparazzi (which has a new name, I think). Tink's in Downtown Scranton - ha, ha! But skip the Blue Room.
-
Julia's in Old Forge is a bar that serves food, however it's not like any bar food I've ever had. They serve a lot of seafood and (for reasons unknown to me) most of the entrees are Mexican. As for drinks there, you can't go wrong with the Jonestown punch. You, several of your friends, many straws and six (I think) kinds of rum to go with the juice and boozy fruit.

Hello from DC, Those gnochetti look AMAZING!

Trying to put this in a non-metric context I can understand (I'm trying, I'm trying) what is the approximate equivalent in teaspoons of 800 mg of salt? About 1/3 of a teaspoon. I could be wrong, but I don't think it's accurate to equate an amount (e.g., a tablespoon) of actual salt with the sodium measure in food. And remember, I did say "I could be wrong." Are there any Cornell Food Science majors out there??
