Maybe someone mentioned this somewhere else, but today I payed a visit to one of my favorite foodblogs (and I know it's also the favorite of many others): Ideas in Food. Turns out Ales and Aki have self-published a photography book that's being sold online... and you can also download it for much less money.

I'll get on downloading it as soon as my next paycheck comes :raz:

Anybody purchased it yet? Comments?

Yes, we finished the book on Monday of this week. The book consists entiresly of pictures, 172 of them. I am truly inspired by pictures and visual images and so we felt this was a great way to express our ideas in a bound form.

Just to clarify, moltoe has shown a picture of the cover of the hardcover version of our book. The insides are the same, 172 pages, the cover is different with the addition of the picture of warmed shrimp in a hot foie gras sheet with olives and persimmon. The back cover is a copy of a menu we did, just happened to be from the evening moltoe joined us.

I received my copy of the book. For those who are fans of Aki and Alex's work in Ideas in Food, their incredible blog (and if you are not yet - you should be), the book is a great resource and adjunct to the blog. It is not a cookbook, nor does it present more than a rudimentary menu-like description of the various dishes. However, it does provide an arms-length photo record of their creations with the wonderful food photography that has become one of their hallmarks as well as a record with which one can refer to the blog for more detail on the specific dishes. The soft-cover edition, though well-done, is not of the quality of a top-flight professional publisher, which makes it all the more charming and when Aki and Alex are published by one of the major Art-House Food Publishers (I have no doubt that they eventually will be) all the more memorable.
