Kansas City Openings

I'm wondering if anyone knows what's happening in the former Scotty's/Macaluso's space.  I saw new signage in the front window Monday (Bella I think??) and they looked very close to being open (table clothes on tables).  Any word on who is involved or what the concept is?

I noticed that too. I have no idea. Anyone? moosnsqrl?

I can't find a link to the original bit in the Star, but here's the text (via KCMax at KCRag):

Macaluso’s closed at 1403 W. 39th St. in early February after 14 years. Then its chef, Scott Warren, opened Scotty’s on 39th St. That operation recently closed but will be replaced by Bella.

The central-Italian-influenced upscale restaurant and catering operation had planned to open in the City Market but couldn’t get funding to start a restaurant from scratch. That wasn’t a problem with an existing restaurant space on 39th Street’s restaurant row. The menu will change seasonally. The owners are shooting for a mid to late May opening.

any names bandied about?

I can't recall anyone doing 'central Italian' in KC.

It is good to be a BBQ Judge.  And now it is even gooder to be a Steak Cookoff Association Judge.  Life just got even better.  Woo Hoo!!!

Um, I believe it's going to be named "Bella," the name that justhoward and Aaron Deacon site above; the same name I saw stenciled on the window when I passed by recently.

I meant names of human beings who might be associated with the project. :raz:

Joyce Smith sheds some light on Bella and some additional light on Twist in this morning's business section:

  • 3 months later...

A few things:

Up in the Northland, Backyard BBQ closed in the space that was some seafood place in the Parkville shopping district. I *think* it's moved down the street into a larger corner space previously occupied by a "nightclub."

Agave (apparently, a Mexican restaurant) has moved into the former Backyard BBQ space.

Cupini's has opened in that same Parkville shopping district in the space that was River Rock Cafe, and before that, Higher Grounds.

There's a pretty swanky-looking bar that has no name as of yet, but it all set up in the space immediately south of the renovated Midland Theater on the corner of 13th and Main. Does anyone know what that's all about?

The Indie. It is a pretty cool space, but everything is served in plastic cups. Somehow my $8 Maker's on the rocks was a bit less satisfying that way.

To be more clear, it's called "Agave Mexican Grill."

It's called "the indie on Main." And, on second glance, it doesn't seem so swank. It was pretty packed this past Friday circa 6.45 p.m.
