While the Bordelais are ripping up their vineyards and piling manure up in front of their distributors' office doors, the Australians are taking a more practical approach to their huge wine glut:

Plan to run cars on Chardonnay

Victorian grape growers recently asked the Federal Government to support a proposal to turn part of its half a billion litres of surplus lower quality wine into ethanol.

Actually the French and Italians have been doing the ethanol thing, too.

I can see it now . . . the 2007 Volvo Vintage? Subaru WineRX? Toyota Crew Cab Sauv? A Ford Pinot?

Why not? I've been running my Diamondback and my Trek 2-wheelers on Australian fortified wine for years!

I always attempt to have the ratio of my intelligence to weight ratio be greater than one. But, I am from the midwest. I am sure you can now understand my life's conundrum.

They ought to just get their own appellation and start making overpriced brandy. :) It worked for the French, after all...
