Will be in Paris (Ahhhh!) in a couple of weeks, staying in the 6th Arr. I love eating outside. Are there any good options for outdoor dining in this area? (I can extend out to the 5th and the 7th as well.) Thanks.

In the 6th, Comptoir of the Relais St Germain has tables on Carrefour de l’Odeon. It's probably not what you are looking for, but we had a surprisingly pleasant lunch outside at Les Deux Magots, served by the friendliest cafe waiter I've ever seen.

In the 7th, on the rue St-Dominique, Les Fables de la Fontaine and Fontaine de Mars both have tables on the same tiny square, and I think Cafe Constant had a couple tables outside, but it might be hard to get one of them. Also, Maupertu has some nice outside tables overlooking Les Invalides' dome. I haven't been there in several years, but enjoyed it then. I wonder if anyone has been there lately. Au Bon Accueil has some small tables outside with a view of the Eiffel Tower. We loved Le Clos Des Gourmets recently, and they have tables outside on the Avenue Rapp.

I think a nice place to eat outside is the square bordered by the Fontaine de Mars + Fables de la Fontaine. But the Maison de l’Amerique Latine is fabulous and shows how good it was to be the King. Those in the Bois are also quite wonderful, eg Le Pavillon des Princes, Pre Catalan, Grand Cascade.

From the Digest though, I'll give you others

Hotel St-James & Albany, L’Estaminet, Point Ephemere, Apollo, La Plage, Le Quinzième, Tokyo Eat, Café de l’Homme, Le Roland-Garros, Le Square, Le 20e Art
and

La Blanchisserie, Café Guitry, Le Bistrot des Dames, Flora Danica, Le Square, Le Delicabar, Apollo, La Cigale Recamier, Il Cortile, Le Pavillion des Princes

and finally
Roland-Garros, Le Pavillon des Princes, Le Quinzieme Cuisine Attitude, Le Marquis, Cafe de l’Homme, Le 20e Art, La Terrasse du Jardin, Aux Marches du Palais, Le Square, Le Cafe des Techniques

In Palaces and Grand Hotels :

L’Espadon, Les Orchidees-le Grill, Le Cinq, Bristol, La Place, Le Pavillon, Pershing Hall, La Table du Lancaster

Show Offs :

Hotel Costes, Apollo, La Gare, Le Flandrin, Harold, Le Cafe de la Jatte

With that Village Feeling :

L’Absinthe, Au Bourguignon du Marais, Pasco, Fontaine de Mars, Chai 33, La Cagouille, La Terrasse Mirabeau, Caves Petrissans

Charming :

Fontaine Gaillon, Restaurant du Palais-Royal, Il Cortile, La Cigale, Recamier, Le Delicabar, Maison du Danemark, Cafe Guitry, Sud

Eye-filling :

Café Marly, Le Georges, Maison Blanche

On greensward:

Maison de l’Amerique Latine, Café Lenotre, Laurent, Pavillon Montsouris, Chalet des Iles, Le Pre Catelan, Pavillon de la Grande Cascade

There are other lists if you want to go back in the Digest to the summer of 2004 but I think this in enough.

Thanks, John--

We prefer to dine near our hotel, I don't feature traveling by bus or Métro, or even a taxi on a long ride back after dinner at 11PM or thereabouts...

I will have to look up these places individually to see what is in the 5th, 6th or 7th.. unless you could narrow it down for me.

Thanks again.

Fair enough; where in the 6th?

I would consider just about anywhere in the 5th, 6th or 7th-- could walk back from most anywhere within those districts.

OK, then Fontaine de Mars or Fables de la Fontaine if you want to be on the street or Maison de l’Amerique Latine which is in the backyard courtyard.

A pleasant place for lunch is the Café des Lettres, hidden away in the courtyard of a building on rue de Verneuil between rue du Bac and rue de Poitiers, just behind the Musée d'Orsay. Oddly enough it features Scandinavian cuisine.

I nice place to sit outside and have a glass of wine with something light to eat is Da Rosa, the gourmet épicerie on Rue de Seine. They serve small plates of their amazing cured Spanish ham, cheese, foie gras, various tartines, salads, caviar and other of their upscale products which are for sale in their shop on rue de Seine. It’s definitely not cheap, but it’s a very pleasant place to spend a summer evening.
