I made this dip with Lipton's Onion Soup Mix and it tastes like crap. Being frugal I kept it hoping to make something with it, like a savoury loaf of bread or some other savoury baked goods.

Does anyone have any suggestions or know if this will work well in a baked product?

This isn't a baked suggestion but I bet you could add it to some form of beef stroganoff.

Well if it really is that bad then I don't think there is any point in using it unless you want to spend some more time making something that ends up still tasting like crap... Crap in, crap out.

I made a 50/50 whole wheat white bread and it was actually quite good. I think diluting the onion flavor helped. It was a more subtle onion flavor than most onion bread and it was great with cold cuts.

But I discovered baking bread with sour cream gave it a really moist interior.

Lesson: I will make future onion dip froms scratch.

Hmmm, I actually like french onion drip made from lipton soup mix... maybe it is just because it makes an appearance at every single holiday family gathering and I have just gotten used to it.

He don't mix meat and dairy,

Edited to add: What were you thinking, an easy gourmet snack? It's sour cream and dehydrated mass-produced chemical infused onion soup, f'r chrissakes.

A crisp fall day, football, beer, "california dip" and Ruffles...life doesn't get any better, unless you maybe add proper Frank's Hot Sauce buffalo wings to the mix somewhere.

Lipton's onion soup dip with ruffles... yummmmmm... that is some gooooooood stuff.

There's not a lot of garbage in Lipton's onion soup, btw. I've researched it. It's basically just toasted onions, salt, msg, sugar, cornstarch, shortening and onion powder. The next time I order from Penzey's I'm getting toasted onion flakes so I can make my own low carb version (no cornstarch, no shortening).

Maxmillan, almost every onion dip recipe I've seen uses way too much of the soup mix, resulting in salt city. It's basically a conspiracy by Lipton to make you use as much mix as possible. Go buy another container of sour cream and dilute it. Then get yourself some chips. You won't regret it.
