Reasonably priced restaurants nr Victoria

Recommended Posts

I am looking to find a reasonably priced/cheap restaurant (mains up to £15ish) to celebrate my girlfiend's graduation. It needs to be near to Victoria Station. As I am taking elderly parents and in-laws (lucky me), the restaurant should be of the non-spicey variety- a traditional British, fish or modern European one should do the trick. Needless to say, it should not be too smokey or play loud music...

Is this a tall order?..Your suggestions will be much appreciated

Thanks

Mikey

You could try the St. Anne. It's a family run Italian restaurant on Victoria Street near Artillery Row, vaguely opposite New Scotland Yard. I wouldn't describe the food as being anything very special, but the service is relaxed and friendly.

the newly opened ebury in pimlico road, the downstairs brasseerie would fit the bill.

uno, in warwick way. very pleasant, airy, friendly italian.

the heavenly grumbles in churton st, unchanged since the seventies. excellent steak and twice-cooked chips.

olivetto, another sweet little modern italian, elizabeth st, i think.

zander at bank has lunch deals, i think, in a really lovely conservatory setting.

the parents would love boisdale (i do ...) and they do a set meal at £17something (it's the date of a scottish battle that i should know but can't remember...) they'd also like poule au pot on pimlico road, almost hilariously old-school french.

my neck of the woods, you see...

My neck of the woods too but I've never heard of Ebury on Pimlico Rd (although I know the Ebury Wine Bar on Ebury Street - good for drinks but not so impressed with the food) - Circeplum do you have any more info?

Oliveto is indeed on Elizabeth St and serves good pasta and pizza plus a few more traditional Italian mains. It is the little sister to Olivo on Eccleston St (a few doors from the Boisdale) which is great but probably a little more expensive than you are looking for.

We love the Boisdale but whether it would work for you might depend on the time of day you are going as they have jazz playing every evening from about 10 so it becomes quite noisy.

La Poule au Pot on Ebury St is a good old fashioned French restaurant. If you get the house wine they bring you a very large bottle and charge you for what you drink - a good marketing ploy as you tend just to keep going!

Near to Grumbles is Chimes which specialises in pies - haven't been in ages but I used to like it and it is very reasonable.

Mimmo d'Ischia also on Elizabeth St is a traditional Italian, probably at the top of your price range but has a good buzz.

Thanks for all the replies, at least we won't be eating in an Angus Steak House now! It'll probably be Grumbles, but I am not telling you how long I spent looking for a place called "heavenly grumbles" (thanks circeplum!) Well, I didn't say that I was the bright one

Thanks again

Mikey
