Hello there. I will be in DC next Tuesday and am looking for somewhere to go AFTER the opera (It's Norma and starts at 7:30, so I am thinking I should be out around 10:30 pm). I am looking for a nice (although not too expensive restaurant) at which to meet an old friend that is still open that late.

The opera is at DAR Constitution Hall and my friend lives near the Cleveland Park stop on the Red Line...so maybe somewhere in between, nearby, anything... HELP, please.

Aside from bar/saloon food, the only really good place to eat in Washington after 11 on a Tuesday is the Bistro Français in Georgetown. Some of the Chinatown restaurants stay open late during the week, also. Bistro du Coin in Dupont Circle serves late on the weekends, but you should call for their hours during the week. If saloon food is OK, check out the Childe Harold in Dupont Circle. They serve till 1.

The BDC (aka "The Office") is open until 11 on weekdays. I would not chance it there in a Tuesday, as if you are close to closing time you could be in for a real dose of French hospitality.

Bistro Francais, is nice, relaxed and pretty good food.

If you are feeling daring, New Big Wong in China Town is open late. Real late.

Late night in DC, I'm heading to Adams Morgan -- which isn't too terribly far from Cleveland Park.

LEFTBANK & The Diner in Adams Morgan are open late.

Diner is 24 Hours.

LEFTBANK (in the old Cities location) has the kitchen open until 2.

Don't know what other kitchens in Adams Morgan are open that late. There are probably others.
