Knowing where you went last night and/or what you had for lunch today would help...

Where are you going tonight, then?

ended up at Mangia Trattoria in Glen Rock, who does a decent job with some pastas and meats, and serves a pretty good faux-brick oven pizza. i say "faux" because i notice that they start it in a gas oven and finish it in the wood-burning brick oven. it's still some of the best pizza around, though.

considering marco and pepe tonight. does anyone know if the bar at marco and pepe is a reasonable place to sit and have dinner?

Tommy--Where did you go for dinner on Tuesday 10/19?

rosie, i popped in to Mangia Trattoria in Glen Rock (see above). it's an above-average italian-american place with way-above-average pizza. byo. a little too family friendly for my taste, so i mostly do take-out.

which brings me to tomorrow, which is tuesday, and i'm trying to figure out where to eat. i might be in the clifton area, so that might be a consideration. hell, i might even have some food at the bar at Dish, although i'm a little afraid.

it's thursday, and that begins with a "t" just like tuesday. any ideas?

keywords: "bar", "belly up", "wines by the glass". basicall those words identify the requirements. had thai for lunch, so that's right out.

Hmm. Have you been to what used to be Sonoma Grill in E. Rutherford? I haven't...

Whaddya know about Orbis in Montclair? Drove past there the other day and realized I knew nada.

How about Belmont Tavern?!? :raz:

Better yet, pick yourself up a quart or so of that Graham Central Station ice cream from Applegate Farms and go HOME!

If you say so, I'm sure it is! I thought it had changed owners and therefore, possibly the name.

Tommy--had some great wine last night at Becco, 46th St. NYC. Had an app and dessert at the bar. Tell Brent the bartender that you heard about him on eGullet. Also, Craig who used to be the manager at Blue Sky Cafe, Montclair works there.

If you are still looking for a place to dine on Tuesday I wanted to recommend Cucharamama, Hoboken. They have a bar with some interesting wines.

i've been meaning to, rosie. what's the parking situation around there? i lived in hoboken for close to 15 years and could never figure out why out-of-towners were so reluctant to drive in because of the parking hassle (you tend to know where to find a spot when you're living in town, but drive around like an idiot when don't know where to go). now that i'm an out-of-towner, i dread it.

Tommy-

I am all together too familiar with the parking vagaries of the Boken, having lived there for years and years. Kept running into the strangest acquaintances - usually at Boo-Boos at 2am or the PATH at 3am or the Spa at 4am. Amongst all my other fuzzy memories, I also have fuzzy memories of not remembering where the hell I parked by car - was it Willow or Clinton? I was in your current hometown on Saturday and it was not a whole lot better. The NYT put it correctly when they referred to that town as "68 restaurants and 69 parking spaces."

Dinner - Tuesday, 3 wks before Christmas - I say head in the opposite direction of Rte 4 & 17 - AAG - always a great choice. Ruga in Oakland - Ate at the bar a few months ago - very tasty. Has improved immeasurably under new ownership.

I've always wound up paying for parking in Hoboken, never had any luck finding a street slot. I use the basement garage at an apartment complex that's just off Observer & I think 2 blks west of Washington - I forget the street names but I know the route.

I usually take the train tho, it's a rare occasion that makes me need to drive there.

I've skimmed this thread & am still searching for an answer to the question, "What's the deal with Tuesdays?" Perhaps it's better that I not know.
