Getting creative with doggie bags

While there's nothing wrong with eating that leftover piece of steak in front of the open fridge at 2am, part of the fun of bringing home excess food is turning it into something else.

What's the most creative thing you've done with your doggie bag contents? (Preferably for another meal, but from this crowd ... :unsure: ... :laugh: )

Many meats which you might find in your doggie bag can make a happy home in a breakfast omelette the next day. Might need chopping or shredding of course.

Actually, I try to avoid the urge to do that -- except with chicken which is my particular midnight vice. Oh, and cold french fries, too. :blush:

I tend to turn steak into Thai salads, fish into fishcakes, and roast beef into hash. Anybody do onigiri?

doggie bags are something we really don't go in for in the UK. I don't know if it is because the portions are bigger in US, or that we eat more in UK and therefore there is nothing left to take home :biggrin: or the fact that British reserve means it is just not the done thing? On my recent trip to NY I noticed that a lot of the restaurants have their own bags,presumably for the purpose of handing out doggie bags but my husband just didn't get it...

I tend to turn steak into Thai salads...

The steak is the BEST. I mean I obviously never buy really expensive steaks or other cuts of prime beef (even if I could) and then slice them up for Asian dishes, or stirfrys, or steak sandwiches, etc.

But they are so tender! And when I am eating some kind of beef salad or Beef & Peppers or steak sandwich made with thinly-sliced strips of leftover porterhouse or something, it is the most decadent of treats. I saute the meat as briefly as possible, just until it's hot, trying hard to cook it as little as possible so that it's still med-rare.

It's the best.

I don't understand why rappers have to hunch over while they stomp around the stage hollering.  It hurts my back to watch them. On the other hand, I've been thinking that perhaps I should start a rap group here at the Old Folks' Home.  Most of us already walk like that.

If I'm given good salmon somewhere, I'll make sure not to eat it all. Actually, I always leave some for tomorrow when we cook it at home.

My favorite lunch in the world is cold salmon, crusty bread and butter, small blob of mayo.

This is probably sacrilege, but we usually give those leftovers to our cats. :biggrin:
