I was sharpening several knives a couple of months ago and a friend walked up and watched me. When I used the honing rod the blades would "sing" - give off an almost musical sound. She commented on the fact (her perspective) that this meant that the blades had a really good edge. I'd never heard that before and and curious if that is just an old wives tale kind of thing or if there is something to it.

By the way, I love my Edge Pro Apex even more now that when I first got it.

I don't think so.

An object "sings" based on mass, stiffness (or tension) and length,

has nothing much to do with edge condition.

Im also and edge-pro maniac.

I notice that the vibrations that come off the knife both in perhaps a tone but maybe just vibs I feel in my hand go up in pitch with a freshly polished up knife.

wishful thinking? maybe. but the 'tone' or vibration goes down as the edge dulls or bends on itself.
