hi to everybody.

I am a new member of this forum. My name is Paul I live in Italy and I have a bar.

I took great interest in rum five years ago. In my bar I have around 60 rums.

Unfortunately in Italy there are little information on the rum.

Doesn't exist a book about rum in Italian.......

In Italy ,schools exist for wine's tasters, whiskey, grappa, vinegar, coffee, oil, cheese, salami and others. But any school on the rum.

I read Classic Rum of Julie Arkell. I ordered two books and a video on the rum of Edward Hamilton.

I am very happy to met this forum and I accept any suggestion to improve my knowledge.

I hope that you will excuse my bad English

and you will answer to my thousand questions.....

Benvenuto Paul! (Hope that's right!)

Don't worry about the English language skills. Most of us here (I'll wager) are native English speakers, and many of us write and spell far worse than you do.

Actually there are only a couple of American bars that have more than 50 rums, and they are few and far between. The Americans are learning and that will change. The main problem right now is that the bars that do have a lot of rums don't have a clue what they have. For example I ordered Zacapa Centenario in Las Vegas and was served a clear spirit, the waiter then wanted to try to convince me that this was Centenario. Finally, I asked to see the bottle and was given the nectar I had ordered.

On the other hand the number of bars that are discovering rum is growing quickly. Unfortunately, although Americans are some of the biggest consumers in the world they are also some of the least educated, not all by any means, but . . . This is one of the reasons for the success of this forum.
