It wasn't your fault. The past discussion about this topic didn't contain the word "pickle" in the thread title. This may be of some help to you: "Making Half (and Full) Sours, (merged topics)" I had never heard of them referred to as "sours" before. Guess that's an east coast thing?

Everyone is doing so well! Here's the evening recap: Please don't assign numbers to your new movie foods...if a movie is solved before it gets put into a recap, I don't give it a number since it's out of play. Also, we're getting some repeat movies. Try not to use "Cool Hand Luke", "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" and "Dirty Dancing" as they've all been used twice. Some new clues have been added. CONGRATULATIONS TO: -GordonCooks solved #106 ("Did you do something different?" "I added peas." "Ah, peas.") as the film "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" and correctly guessed that #112 ("I was a little liberal with the atomizer. And at my age, it's like a good Stilton. Everything has its own aroma") was from the film "Mrs. Doubtfire". -worm@work has correctly guessed that "She started out making cakes and pies for the neighbors to make extra money" was the classic film "Mildred Pierce" and has solved #109 (Turkey so heavy it cracks the Thanksgiving dinnertable in two. CLUE: while across the street they were eating homemade tortillas) as the film "What's Cooking?". -Rachellindsay has correctly surmised that #108 (Capezzoli di Venere! Crema Mascarpone Speciale) was the film "Amadeus". -nikkib correctly deduced that "Two orders of a double burger and cherry soda with chocolate ice cream. Someone orders an Eskimo Pie and a knife" was the film "Grease". ************ We know: #66 is not "Hairspray". #110 is not "Big" #115 is not "Liitle Murders" ************ STILL UNSOLVED AND STILL IN PLAY: 66. Pizza with "stinky junk, bits of sweaty sausage, a little tomato, nice, fresh spaghetti, an old cheese rind, lettuce that's good and rotten, one olive..." CLUE: the original order was for a Neapolitan, no anchovies; and a Margarita with anchovies, and "can I have ham too ?" CLUE: before dinner's over, one of the diners gets (what the ever-heavyhanded Bond sriptwriters would call, were it a Bond movie which it isn't) 'the point'. 95. A sardine and a mini-pretzel. CLUE: Another food-related scene of this film has someone eating from a bowl meant for the family dog. 97. Ahi Tuna, a glass of water CLUE: toothpaste 98. The character has various meats (steaks, a roast) stuffed into her sweater from the family fridge to take to a 'luau'......... 103. A stolen piece of meat - "Meat is meat" 107. Quails, fish paté, potato soup. 110. "Is it just me, or is this food really small?" CLUE: This line was spoken towards the end of the movie during a $10,000/person charity dinner for Lou Gehrig's disease that was attended by the entire ensemble of characters. 111. Numerous brands of bottled water, including Perrier, Evian, Glacier, Vittel, and Volvic. 113. There's a bet involving cheesecake and strudel. 114. An oldie: Bon-bons, peppermint, lemonade, crackerjacks, a chocolate bar, a sugar bowl, a tootsie roll and a devils food cake 115. A carton of milk...with a bullet hole in it. **** NOTE: If you post a movie, please check back to see if the guesses on your movie are correct or not so we can keep the "Still in Play" list accurate. Also, consider posting more clues if your movie remains unsolved. **** edited to add Mooshmouse's new clue and response to Blether's guess

Little murders? ← Nope. Try again.

"Heart Attack Grill welcomes gluttons with deadly, fat-filled fare" Has anyone taken one for the team and eaten there? And isn't it interesting that the "controversy" over the diner has nothing to do with the fat-filled food but with the wait staff gimmick (trying to compete with Hooters, etc)?
-
A new movie puzzle: A carton of milk...with a bullet hole in it.
-
Is it GREASE? ← Yes, you're correct! Other food-related items from the movie: A Dog-Sled Delight "No use crying over spilled milkshake" and "Maraschino, you know, like in cherry..." ************************************ A new movie puzzle (an oldie!): Bon-bons, peppermint, lemonade, crackerjacks, a chocolate bar, a sugar bowl, a tootsie roll and a devils food cake
-
A new movie puzzle: Two orders of a double burger and cherry soda with chocolate ice cream. Someone orders an Eskimo Pie and a knife.
-
← Very good! "Mildred Pierce" it is. This would have been the next clue if no one got it: "After that, only one thing was on my mind. To open the restaurant and make it successful. 'Short stack. Easy on the butter. Adam and Eve on a raft. Hit me hard.' ' **************************** edited to add a new movie puzzle: There's a bet involving cheesecake and strudel.
-
Correct! More lines from the "Mrs. Doubtfire": "Oh, the terrorists! They ran that way. It was a run-by fruiting." "She's got crabs. And I don't mean Dungeness." ******************** A new movie puzzle (may be easy to some): She started out making cakes and pies for the neighbors to make extra money.

Thanks for the link! A friend of mine has been making these no-name cookies for years (a coworker of mine has called them "smookie" bars). She just found out they were the infamous Nanaimo bars. It's great to finally put a name to the dessert. Though I'm not sure if they would be ideal for a bake sale since I think they should be refrigerated.
-
Thanks for pointing this out. I edited the recap to make me look like I'm not going senile. Since there hasn't been too much activity today, I'll post another recap in the morning.

Hershey's Limited Edition Brownies 'n' Chocolate candy bar I had such high hopes for this one. The label says it's "Creamy Milk Chocolate with Brownie Morsels". When I think of brownies, I think "chewy" or even "gooey". The drawback to putting "chewy" morsels in a candy bar it that they can also come across as "stale". It would have been a totally different candy bar if they had a decent layer of brownie...something with enough thickness that you could sink your teeth into and get that chewiness naturally associated with brownies. But when you take brownies and turn them into "morsels" (i.e., tiny brownie crumbs) and mix them into the candy bar, it's an odd texture combination. Like I mentioned, they come across as stale bits, not chewy bits, since they're so small. Anyone else try these? I get it. Hershey's is trying to come up with something tiny they can mix into their current candy bars so they don't have to go through the expense of reconfiguring their machinery. Having a thick brownie layer would mean making an entirely new candy bar instead of just being able to update a current candy bar.

The New York Times article - "Honeybees Vanish, Leaving Keepers in Peril " If you aren't registered (it's free) you can check Google News for other sites that may not require registration who have posted a similar article. Is this just a natural cycle or has something gone terribly wrong with the bees? And if this trend continues, it will impact food prices in the marketplace.

"3 fast-food chains in NYC yank calorie info" By pulling the nutritional info available to everyone (not just residents of NYC), they are getting around the proposed NYC menu legislation. It's a sort of a reverse of the saying "cutting off your nose to spite your face". Do we fault the chains for this reaction? Have the NYC politicians/officials gone too far? I know when I walk into a McDonald's and order a Big Mac, I'm not getting health food. I know it's full of fat and everything else that's not good for me. They can post all the caloric info on the menus that they want, it won't deter me or impact my ordering. I'm there for a reason and saving calories isn't it.

My mom used that cut for, as others have suggested, Chicken Fried Steak (using Corn Flake crumbs as the coating), Swiss Steak done in a pressure cooker and the occasional Beef Stroganoff (though it'd need a good braising to make sure it wasn't too tough). Good stuff, Maynard.

The staff prevails upon them to stay, and one member of the dinner party reads off all the fish dishes available, and they start discussing them. Correct again! Other memorable quotes from the film: On making a martini - "Stir...never shake. It bruises the gin." ~ Patrick Dennis "There's NO SUGAR in a CLAUDE UPSON daiquiri!" (the secret ingredient is honey) And later in the film, Vera says "I've just been to the most awful party where they served nothing but daiquiris made with honey." Mrs. Upson serves Auntie Mame her special hors d'oeuvres made with tuna, peanut butter, and clam juice. And, of course: "Life is a banquet, and most poor sons of bitches are starving to death!"

This doesn't help much but I recall in the last issue of Bon AppetÍt magazine, there was a small ad in the back of the issue (along with all the other small ads) for floor mats. Not sure if it's the same company that's been previously mentioned. Next time you're in a bookstore or by a newsrack, check the magazine out.

Seas that are realy old and no longer flow. ← So how many million years ago was there a sea where southern Kansas is now? ← As and ye shall receive: Kansas Underwater My mom had brothers that died in Kansas salt mines back in the 1930's. Until I heard that I didn't realize they were even salt mines in the state.

I can remember back when I was in the first grade our class made butter. All of the students in my class sat in a circle passing a jar containing the cream/milk inside. Each kid got to shake the jar for a little bit and then it was passed to the next kid who then shook the jar and so on. I can't even recall if the jar made it clear around the circle of kids before we had butter. I remember we were each given a saltine cracker and the teacher put a schmear of the finished butter on it. I remember it tasting quite good given that, at home, my mom was an avid oleo/margarine user. So I can say based upon my first grade experience, it doesn't take long to make butter.
