  1. I was going to post this very clue (but not the dialogue) to see if anyone would get it. I'll let someone else step forward on this one.
  2. Would that be Willie Wonka? ← Correct! Other clues would have been (lickable) wallpaper and Fizzy Lifting Soda. edited to add a new movie: soy milk and burnt turkey.
  3. Love (of the game) in the Afternoon recap: Hats off and congratulations to: -I_call_the_duck for solving #17 (people) which was "Soylent Green". -dockhl for correctly guessing #10 ("I love it when it's hamburger day.") as "Romy & Michelle's High School Reunion". -caroled for solving "Two soft-shell crab dinners, one baked, one fries" as "As Good As It Gets" and for solving: " Salt, pepper, granulted garlic....mayonnaise,...of course," " Of course, now for the important question,'Do you have a position on pickles?' " "Oh it's more of a deeply held belief actually" "Oh really, a pickle conviction , um.... go ahead" "When it comes to tuna fish, I am emphatically anti-pickle" as "The Truth About Cats & Dogs", both of which didn't make it into the last recap and was solved before this one. ***************************** A. CONTINUING TO TAUNT US WITH THEIR UNSOLVABILITY: 5. Tuna noodle casserole for Sunday dinner, and hot chocolate and lemon drops before bed. Movie also contains catfish and popcorn. CLUE: If it helps any, it was written by a Southern writer Another CLUE: This author also wrote another script/movie mentioned near the begining of the thread CLUE: There are 4 primary characters, 1 female lead, 2 female supporting, and 1 male supporting. The movie was released in 1989 and all 4 actors have won Academy Awards for other works.(one best actress and the other 3 for best supporting)...apologies, one of the 3 supporting roles was a nomination and not an actual award. 6. "... and mashed potatoes. Naw, CREAMED potatoes. An' peas an' onion rings". CLUE: the meal being envisioned is the fantasy reward of a planned (rather whimsical) life of crime. The full quote (it came back to me !) is: "Steaks THAT THICK... and mashed potatoes. Naw, CREAMED potatoes. An' peas an' onion rings". 15. Stew, no ketchup. CLUE: The film in question is a good bit older than the Christopher Reeve/Margot Kidder Superman. It's probably closer in vintage to George Reeves' Superman TV show. The clue as it stands might be a little obscure. CLUE: This stew can stand on its own feet 18. "I want a hamburger... no, a cheeseburger. I want a hot dog. I want a milkshake..." 19. A buttercup tea cup 20. Melting ice cream **** NOTE: If you post a movie, please check back to see if the guesses on your movie are correct or not so we can keep the "Still in Play" list accurate. Also, consider posting more clues if your movie remains unsolved. ****
  4. "Soylent Green is people!" ← I was debating whether to start out with the other food in the film or just go for the punchline. Well done, I_call_the_duck!
  5. Has anyone purchased a dishwasher along the lines of the Stainless Steel Kenmore Elite 24 in. Double Drawer Dishwasher? It has two drawers so you have options depending on how much you need to wash. Are two drawers overkill? It's quite pricey. It's supposed to fit into the same space as a regular dishwasher so it makes me wonder if the two-drawer design gives you less interior space than a single door dishwasher.

I'd say take one for the team and let us know what you think. I also stumbled across these at an Independent Grocers Assoc. (IGA) store quite sometime ago. I can't even recall what it was I smoked but I didn't think it was that bad. Living in an apartment, there aren't many BBQ options open for me so I thought it made a good alternative for those who can't do the real thing.
  7. A nightcap recap of what is currently in play - Hats off and congratulations to: -Forest for correctly solving #16 (A stolen loaf of bread) which was "Les Miserables". -insomniac for solving #9 (A breakfast tray with a bowl of hot cereal, a teapot, a teacup and saucer, and a mouse) as "Cinderella". -oneidaone, who was first to guess that #11 (A flopped souffle because she doesn't turn on the oven) was Audrey Hepburn's "Sabrina". And congratulations to Rachellindsay, as well, for guessing the same after oneidaone. A. CONTINUING TO TAUNT US WITH THEIR UNSOLVABILITY: 5. 8. A recap for the early afternnon- Hats off and congratulations to: -I_call_the_duck for finally solving #2 (a spaghetti-proof bib, two pork chops and a few slaps round the chops........CLUE: the guy aspires to win a girl above his station in life. The movie could be called sexist and vulgar, but has become a bit of a cult classic for the male star) as "Saturday Night Fever". -Insomniac for solving #12 (A popsicle made of ketchup) as "Tommy Boy". AWAITING CONFIRMATION ON SOLUTIONS: - caroled has guessed #9 sounds like "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane" - Insomniac has guessed #9 to be "Cinderella". - oneidaone has guessed that #11 is Audrey Hepburn's "Sabrina", followed by the same guess by Rachellindsay. **** NOTE: If you post a movie, please check back to see if the guesses on your movie are correct or not so we can keep the "Still in Play" list accurate. 9. yeees ICTD (I love your name) it is Saturday Night Fever ← Here I thought it had to be a British film from the clue...turns out the description of the film was British.
  10. I was about to ask "Can I have been to a Hungry Hunter in San Diego in 1994, or am I confusing it with something else?" and then I googled, and it's there, now called Hunter's Steakhouse, part of a chain that owns Hungry Hunter, Mountan Jack's Steakhouse, The Cliff House, Carvers Steaks & Chops, and The Whaling Company. ← The Hungry Hunter chain just sort of drifted apart. You'll find a lot of them kept the word "Hunter" in their new names. There used to be a Hungry Hunter in Mission Valley at the west end of Hotel Circle (I just Googled it and Google says that restaurant is still called "Hungry Hunter" but another Google search says the restaurant's name is "Hunter's Steakhouse" so who knows?). And there was another in El Cajon off Fletcher Parkway across from Parkway Plaza that's now called Red Oak Steakhouse. Haven't been to either since the chain name was dropped.
  11. A new day, a new recap: Congratulations to - JeanneCake for solving #8 (To someone eating M&M's: "Don't eat the red ones."), "Peggy Sue Got Married" Varmint for solving #7 "Meet Me in S. Louis" given nothing but a flimsy clue - Homemade ketchup that may be too sweet ("All men like it on the sweet side") Simon_S for solving a movie that didn't even get put into the recap "a new quote from a British film from the late 1980s: "We want the finest wines available to humanity......we want them here, and we want them now!" which was "Withnail and I". And to Insomniac solving #14 (a very surreal dinner scene where a cooked chicken starts moving around when it's time to carve it) which was "Eraserhead". A. UTTERLY AND COMPLETELY UNSOLVED 2. a spaghetti-proof bib, two pork chops and a few slaps round the chops........ CLUE: the guy aspires to win a girl above his station in life. 12. You are correct, sir! I thought about adding the rest of the food from the movies in case no one got it: -A rushed corned beef dinner (waiting for the long distance phone call from New York City). -Homemade ice cream. -Hickory Nut Cake "as only Katie can make it." -"Stop eating that spun sugar, you'll spoil your dinner." -"Where is the French restaurant?...It's across from Machinery Hall." The last clue would have certainly sealed the deal to anyone who's seen the movie as it's a reference to the St. Louis World's Fair. Well done, Dean!
  13. An evening recap nightcap - Congratulations to GTO for solving the "red hots' movie and to Insomniac for guessing the Simpson connection to the same movie (back a couple pages in this discussion). I'm trying something new with the numbers to remain consistent...as a number/movie is solved, it gets retired (there was confusion when movies would be shifted up the list as others got solved): A. UTTERLY UNSOLVED 2. a spaghetti-proof bib, two pork chops and a few slaps round the chops........ CLUE: the guy aspires to win a girl above his station in life. 14. Congratulations to Carolyn for "Tootsie" and to Forest for "Existenz", a real toughie. Time to clear out some deadwood and post some new entries. I'm trying something new with the numbers to remain consistent...as a number/movie is solved, it gets retired so there's no confusion when movies get shifted to new numbers during the recaps: A. UTTERLY UNSOLVED 2. a spaghetti-proof bib, two pork chops and a few slaps round the chops........ CLUE: the guy aspires to win a girl above his station in life. 15. I think this might be existenze (sp?)...There's a scene where someone makes a weapon out of bones in a chinese restaurant?? ← YES! Finally! We have a winnah, folks. The original poster, Insomniac, had pm'ed me and gave the answer: Existenz. Way to go, Forest!
  16. A new movie to name...I will add clues eventually if no one gets it: Homemade ketchup that may be too sweet ("All men like it on the sweet side").
  17. A "nooner" recap: A. UTTERLY UNSOLVED 2. a spaghetti-proof bib, two pork chops and a few slaps round the chops........ CLUE: the guy aspires to win a girl above his station in life. The movie could be called sexist and vulgar, but has become a bit of a cult classic for the male star 3. How about a disgusting bony, lethal Chinese meal?? CLUE: How about: life's nothing but a game?? CLUE 2: the director famously weaves the psychological with the physical, sometimes reality and fantasy are blurred. i.e. he's a bit weird. CLUE 3: the male lead is an English pin-up; the female lead American with an actor dad (no longer with us) 4. A ruined dinner, and chocolate chocolate chip ice cream to apologize. CLUE: Later he gives her a box of chocolate-covered cherries with somebody else's name on it. 5. Tuna noodle casserole for Sunday dinner, and hot chocolate and lemon drops before bed. Movie also contains catfish and popcorn. 18. I don't have a guess on #2 but I am attempting to narrow it down. I'm thinking this has to be a British/European film since the phrase "a few slaps around the chops" is more a British phrase than American. Also, having to do with a "station in life" which, again, is a British term (see any Merchant-Ivory film). Does this narrow it any?
  19. You got it!
  20. Drums, please.
  21. I think it's more a matter of niche marketing, or upscale marketing, if you want to call it that. Check out your local Target's nut/snack aisle. They offer quite a range of interesting nut products under their Archer Farms line.
  22. When I first made these cookies, I completely forgot about adding the salt with the dry ingredients. I ended up tossing it in when I added the final chocolate bits and really noticed (not in a bad way) the note of salt when eating the baked cookies. I would be hesitant about increasing the salt in fear of over-salting them. Perhaps if you try adding the salt later in the recipe it'll have a stronger presence for you.

Does crostini count? jinmyo, in the "Dinner!" discussion, posted a meal that included stewed tomatoes mixed with canned cannellini beans served on garlic crostini. I used Italian-seasoned canned stewed tomatoes heated with the beans (rinse the beans first to get that "gunk" off). I mashed about half the mixture to provide more body to it. It thickened up quite nicely. Once heated, serve on garlic crostini. Practically a meal in itself and quite good.
  24. A recap for the night: 1. Egg yolk, a turkey drumstick, and birthday cake? Further clues to this movie: A cook making horrible pancakes and fried eggs while the dancing dishwasher flings plates at him; and eating popcorn while watching the movie Dumbo. 2. a spaghetti-proof bib, two pork chops and a few slaps round the chops........ 3. how about a disgusting bony, lethal chinese meal?? CLUE: How about: life's nothing but a game?? Another CLUE: the director famously weaves the psychological with the physical, sometimes reality and fantasy are blurred. i.e. he's a bit weird 4. what's the name of the movie that featured, among a variety of food items, bread and butter. CLUE: an additional combo that was prominent in the movie - honey and ice cubes. 5. A ruined dinner, and chocolate chocolate chip ice cream to apologize. CLUE: Later he gives her a box of chocolate-covered cherries with somebody else's name on it. 6. Tuna noodle casserole for Sunday dinner, and hot chocolate and lemon drops before bed. (Movie also contains catfish, and popcorn. ) CLUE: If it helps any, it was written by a Southern writer Another CLUE: This author also wrote another script/movie mentioned near the begining of the thread 7. Two people at eating dinner when a third one arrives and says "Is anyone eating this?" and takes the man's plate. 8. "... and mashed potatoes. Naw, CREAMED potatoes. An' peas an' onion rings". 9. "red hots.. get your red hots" 10. Revised clue: Birthday cake (and party) ruined by a seagull...or two...or... ----------------------------------------------------- ***NOTE: If you post a movie, please check back to see if the guesses on your movie are correct or not so we can keep the "Still in Play" list accurate.
