  1. Trademarking cocktails is kinda rare, and I think only one comes to mind: The Hand Grenade from Tropical Isle Inc. of New Orleans. I spotted this news story and it sort of sparked some curiosity. I have never viewed the guy's show, so perhaps someone can speculate on this trademark he has applied and for and obtained? [crossing my fingers that the links are correct....] Cheers!
  2. Black Velvet. Black and Tans are Guinness and, usually, Bass Pale Ale.

    Green Wine?

Nary a forum to escape my spirited posts regarding this spiritous holiday. Story here.
  4. Here's a tidy little article of interest on Guinness, the Irish Coffee and a wee sentence or two about Irish Whiskey. Slainte!
  5. Story here. Cheers y'all!
  6. Do you mean this stuff? I thought Clamato could be found in most grocery stores, no?

    Best Salmon

Welcome to eG loper. The farm raised v. triploid v. hatchery v. wild while adding in the factors of PCBs, dyes and overfishing has been discussed nearly ad nauseum here on the Gull. If your willing to jump in, I'll gladly supplement with some of the relevant and somewhat recent links. (even some subsistence/state/federally managed issues too!) I'm from the southeast from a town called Sitka... heard of it?
  8. Bravo! Someone is getting the "freshest ingredients" are the center of an excellent cocktail. Here are four of their cocktail approaches: Refreshing Tropical Specialties Unique Citrus Signatures Sophisticated Retro Favorites Sunny Poolside Delights The only thing disappointing with this press release -- not giving credit where credit is due. Which leading mixologist did they work with to come to these decisions? I'm sure I can guess, but he ought to have been mentioned. Interesting press release here (inclusive a complimentary cocktail recipe). Cheers!

    Syrah or Shiraz?

    Today's Scotsman's article here.

    Sea Beans

Those sort of look like what we call beach asparagus in Alaska. I love them slightly blanched, tossed with a bit of butter. What are sea beans?
  11. Hey! That's [Westside Market] within walking distance to my restored Victorian home, my place of employ and the location of my family's new restaurant!!! Thank heavens it is in Cleveland!!!!!! edit: clarity
  12. No. Ramps are in the onion family. They are mild. Fiddleheads are the unfurled, young sprouts from ferns.
  13. JennotJenn, Your base for the pomegranate liqueur was vodka, right? You're safe and if anything the flavour has mellowed with the continued age. Per Cordials From Your Kitchen by Patti Vargas and Rich Gulling, most liqueurs will keep indefinitely. However, any homemade types that requires eggs or cream/milk are the ones that are advised to remain refrigerated and be consumed within approximately one month. I hope this helps. Cheers!
  14. I saw The Lutece Cookbook at a discount/closeout book store and am now kicking myself for not purchasing it. Well, I just +1'd my collection with an eBay win for Sweet Miniatures by Flo Braker, the expanded 2000 edition. Not sure this is a fabulous find or not, but I was curious and it was at right price. I'll be looking forward to my mailman's deliveries this week.
  15. I've had mine for a bit more than a year and they show very little wear and tear (even in the heel area, because I often drag my feet and usually wear out that "corner" of every shoe I own). After all the majority of my work is on rubber matting in both the kitchen and behind the bar. Therefore I disagree about the Dansko shoe wearing out in only 4-6 months.
  16. There's a local microbrewery and restaurant that serves up those little tasty bite sized burgers in a galvanized bucket as an appetizer. They are delicious. If I'm not mistaken, they are on in house made biscuits. Oh, the summertime on their patio....

    Strega

Aren't some of those promotional goodies or giftbox sets great? I love them and have collected many of the glassware give-aways. Adds to the enjoyment, no?
  18. Press release here. Yum. Cheers!
  19. Another vote for Danskos. I was a frequent purchaser of those "walker" athletic shoes for work (14 hour shifts six-seven days a week during peak season) and they wore out quickly. It was my back that told me when it was time to purchase a new pair. I purchased some Danskos and I wear them as often as I can during and outside of work. They are great.
  20. Ted, While I do not mean any offense, I really doubt Pastry forum poster newbie martha was ever intending to offend you, or anyone else for that matter, on your chocolate knowledge, choices or opinions. Perhaps offend isn't the correct word usage, but perhaps disrespect? At any rate, she seems to be genuinely appreciative of chocophile's generosity in sharing of information (as well as others that come to eG and read, choosing not to partipate or post for the numerous reasons that one may have). Meh. It is after all, only my opinion and I may be mistaken.
  21. Those are funny. I've read about something similar to this being overheard from two businessmen: Martinis are like women's breasts. One's not enough. Two are just right and three are too many.
  22. This is stuff looks like a quickie, flash in the pan sort of thing. (Inspired by the not so quick flash nightmare their website represents to my poor ancient laptop). A one night stand, only to be a distant memory, so to speak? Yipes, the State of Ohio barely permits its residents to the varied selection and exciting world of alcohol and wine to purchase let alone combining it with something so hedonistic as Sex Vodka! Get your collectible bottle now!
  23. Ditto!!! I think my first copy of Chocolatier dates from the 80's. Lemme check.... Volume I, No. 7, 1985. The cover is titled: "Brownies, not for kids only!"
  24. I had to think about this a bit. I rarely get hungover myself unless I deviate from the my normal list of trouble-free combinations. But I usually drink plenty of water -- unless it is one of those 14 hour days with 80 percent humidity, 90 some degrees and I'm working a double, in season, on a rocking Saturday. Two-three after work drinks, upon dehydration and much physical exhaustion often proved deadly. (Factor in the empty stomach too). It is on the following mornings (read: afternoons) the Skyy Blue with plenty o'ice were the exact fix, that of course after a good Gatorade. Sometimes it was Mike's Not so hard Cranberry Lemonade, poolside, again with much ice. Admittedly, by the time I drank the stuff, it would be very watered down.
  25. I love to forage. I grew up learning about the many benefits and somehow the fun never disappeared. Here is a eG foraging adventure I shared in response to a recent opportunity I had to return to my beloved Sitka, along with some extras, here.
