  1. Okay, I'm digging this one up in hopes that drcocktail's vast product knowledge may spark some info. The liqueur came and went so quickly, our distributor reps have changed too often to remember ever knowing anything about it and internet info is (was, I haven't googled it lately) quite scarce.... Just what drives the curiously seeking simply mad! Doc? Anything?
  2. Pepperidge Farms Black Pepper Parmesan croutons -- I can eat the whole box in one sitting, including any of the filmy remaining crumbs at the bottom of the bag when I discover they are all gone. Rice Krispy Treats -- either homemade or now easily found in a box of any grocery store. I know to put a blind eye to the whole section of those boxes of carbo goodness. When I worked for Disney, my coworker General Manager and I obsessed over squeeze cheese (from the aerosol can) on Wheatables while doing physical inventory counts. Both of us would be there to the early morning hours, clipboards in one hand and with the other hand: I carried the box of Wheatables and she had the can of cheese. Yikes! That is actually a unique, fond food memory trigger too! Perhaps I best drop by her house outfitted with red wine, squeeze cheese and Keebler's Wheatables sometime soon....

The first time a friend opened a bottle with one of those I was fascinated. The second bottle, I gave it a try only to have a whisper thin stream of red wine spray up and onto my taupe coloured suit jacket. I forgot the wine, but not the stain -- that I swear I can still see even after much dry cleaning. He giggled stating that on occasion some bottles of wine may have a wee bit of pressure. Not sure if his explanation was correct, but I opted not to risk the chance again and use one of the bunch of waiter's "wine keys" I've been given by wine distributors.
  4. Well, is it any surprise that the designers of Shakers Vodka's packaging also won gold for their bottle? Today's BusinessWire article here.
  5. Unfortunately, Charbay isn't available everywhere.
  6. No worries Raych. Bickering about what constitutes a martini has, and always will be, hashed and rehashed among cocktail enthusiasts -- and on no fault of your own! Same squabble, in a new thread. typos!
  7. Weren't Key Limes from the West Indies?
  8. Aw crap. Just when it was getting to be fun!
  9. doc, tanabutler, rancho, et al. Martini wars again revived? Surely one of the following will suit as ample battle grounds to hammer it all out! Direct link to the eG Martini Discussion Index: http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?showto...=0entry538804 Or here is a cut and paste: Cheers! edit: Links!
  10. That it is. Something to consider: have you looked for the somewhat similar Aguardiente de Caña? Look here for a brief discussion. Not quite the same experience, however the best I can offer up are other caipis drinks which would would be a Caipirissima (variation on the Caipirinha but made with regular, old Rum) or the Caipiroska (varation made with Vodka). Well, I hope some of this helps and good luck on your search! Cheers!
  11. Thanks Maggie! Save those recipes. I thnk they'd be great for any occasion, no? What I want to know is where'd you find the HUNKY Jewish boyfriends? Must be the water out there in the Heartland. <she heaves a heavy sigh> Shiksa here too. Those hunky boys were all over Cleveland's eastside when I lived in Shaker Heights. I love your fantastic article.
  12. I wrote that eye popping amount on the evolving cocktails listing oodles of these new breeds of martinis, and I'm hardly embarrassed. I doubt that many of the other "real" publishers of hard copy books on the same/similar subject with their pink martinis, filled with fruit purees are either. Meh. Language, schmanguage. We all have our pet peeves and mine are almost always the glaring split infinitive -- which, too, has become common place and somewhat accepted as proper by many writers today. typos here tooooo! wine not helping either....
  13. Sure, now go change every bar, restaurant, club menu and the manufacturers and retailers of cocktail glasses that call them martini glasses. tana, you haven't unearthed what hasn't been bickered about here on the Gull before.
  14. Monin Violet Syrup: Describing the flavour is hard to do. Sweet, nectar-like. Seems familiar with some chocolate covered cream sort of candies I had, but don't remember when. Very subtle and delicate.
  15. A search of LCBO products(their online list at least) shows they do not stock Cachaça. Have you tried phoning: LCBO Infoline 1-800-ONT-LCBO (1-800-668-5226) or 416-365-5900 in the Toronto area Monday to Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. EST. infoline@lcbo.com I hope some of this helps. Good luck. edit to add: Welcome to eG Gul_Dekar.
  16. Archived recipe(s) fixed. Have fun mixing them up and adjust to taste and preference. They are a dessert in of themselves! And vary liquor, as need be, as well. Absolut Vanilla? Sure. Grey Goose La Vanille -- Yum. Possibly even Bacardi Vanila would be a lovely variation?
  17. Many of the cocktail/wild martini type recipes can be found in the eGCI Evolving Cocktails, part 2 here. And accompanied by the following photograph: Please note the link to the first Key Lime Pie Martini recipe incorrectly reflects Midori for the Dr. McGillicuddy's Vanilla Schnapps! (I'll see how that can be revised/corrected after I finish this post). Yikes! I hope some of this helps and doesn't add to any confusion rach77!
  18. Oooh! Nice write up with great suggestions, ideas and fantastic cocktail recipes! These are some of quotes I chose to highlight, but if you want to read more about the actual cocktails he presented, you gotta click here. I've seen those tiny South African pineapples at our produce markets and what a fun idea! I always enjoy using fresh sugar cane and have played with some hot pepper jam in drinks, but now I'm on the hunt for Peach Chipotle Jam. I sooooooo love this concept and application of culinary into the spirited drink glass. Heirloom Tomato Juice! Yum, Cardamom-Orange Butter is a must try -- this week! This was a lovely write up by those good folks at DISCUS. Cheers!
  19. Here is an interesting article from today's Miami Herald.
  20. WTF is a jigger? Steven! Didn't you read either of Janet's or my eGCI classes?! Pictured here: (first item on the left) From: http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?showtopic=26775 Some recent dicussion here: http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?showto...=0entry553980 edit: picture fix
  21. No Jasmine?
  22. Kasha, Kramer washing food in the shower! J. Peterman's Antique Wedding Cake....
  23. I bet it is nothing short of wonderful too.
  24. Oooooh! I *LOVE* Adam. I *LOVE* Northern Exposure!!!!!!! Remember Shelly dropping his prized $$$$$$ bottle of French wine for the same shindig? Eve and Shelly mix up Chanel No.5 among other things to try to recreate it! I have to add another vote for Seinfeld. Any episode, any time. The Big Salad; Kramer's poaching of lobsters from someone else's lobster traps; Steinbrenner's calzone lunches; Ju-Ju Bees (spelling?); Elaine's Lobster Bisque ("You left out the best part." "No, I mentioned the bisque."); the Chinese Restaurant episode where they never get seated; George's combining of food (was it a pastramy on rye?) with sex with one of his girlfriends; Kenny Rogers with Kramer screaming "Kenny! KENNY!" as the neon sign is turned off; "Vegetable Lasagna" who sat next to Elaine and Putty returning from Europe; the list could go on and on!
  25. Amen, Brother! The Westside Market is fantastic, and is a great place to find bargains. Produce is so cheap there it's absurd. And to top it off, you can shop and eat the best brats in town. A HUGE Red Carpet welcome to a fellow Clevelander RagallachMC!!!! And that's sister to you! Narrin's (I can never remember how to spell her name ) Asian Spice stand with millions of exotic sauces, Ohio City pasta's fresh offerings, The Cheese Shop's fantastic selection of cheeses, Kluth's smokies, Calabrese's citrus, among other favourites -- it is a food shopping heaven. I've seriously over spent on cheeses there, but well worth it.
