  1. For everyone that liked the Sticky Toffee Pudding at Parkside, I found a recipe that (I think) is very similar--not too sweet, but moist and rich. Here it is: http://www.epicurious.com/run/recipe/view?id=101401 The only change I made to it is I only used 3 cups of whipping cream (instead of 4 cups), with 3/4 cup of butter and 1 cup of brown sugar (instead of 2 cups). The topping was still very sweet. It's delicious!
  2. hashbrowns, biscuits and sausages, and waffles with lots of real syrup and butter
  3. Crunchy? Or the big puffy ones that are like eating orange air? Embarassingly, the big poofy ones. I usually lick my fingers to get the orange gunk off, too. I'm twenty years old, going on four. I only like the poofy ones. I'm snacking on some leftover pastrami I found in the fridge.
  4. Yum...the pork looks meltingly juicy and tender! What form of yoga do you practice? I used to do Bikram's and I loved it, but I haven't had time to go in months!

    Spamjam

I didn't know Spam-carving was an art. I once carved an import car out of a block of Spam. It was for a school project.
  7. Dinner last night: -one Buffalo chicken taquito from 7-11 -one spicy cream cheese taquito from 7-11 -bites of my bf's 7-11 hot dog, all covered in their watery chilli and cheese sauce (I actually thought the cream cheese one was pretty good.... )
  8. You've got the right idea. In the "Snacking" thread, I confessed to being a Grade B maple syrup imbiber myself. There truly is no other. For me, it's always the tbsp measure I reach for. I suppose I'm tricking myself into thinking I'm showing some restraint/ measuring portion control, or some such nonsense. Hah. Maple syrup is hardly a deep dark confession! You can't be ashamed of maple syrup. I mean at least by the table spoon. If you were chugging it out of a two liter soda bottle, MAYBE. Is this a confession of sorts? Do you drink maple syrup from the bottle?
  9. You could only eat half that plate? The first thing I thought when I saw the spaghetti was, "What a small serving!"

    Dinner! 2004

bleudauverge: Those pictures are really beautiful. The weather seems to be very warm where you live!
  13. Hey, I think I have this recipe written down in a file somewhere. It was one of the first things I ever baked--the MS lemon tart. Do you want me to find it? Personally, that recipe is a little too tart for me. I add a lot of butter to my lemon curd recipe--I guess it must be like the lemon cream nightscotsman was talking about, because it is quite thick.
  14. I think Church's chicken is the best, at least up here in Vancouver. The meat is juicy and the breading is crisp. At KFC, the breading is always a little soggier. I haven't had Popeye's, but I know there's a location about 40 minutes away from where I live. My favorite fried chicken is from a little Taiwanese restaurant up here though. The breading is so crunchy, and the chicken is amazingly juicy. The best part is the sauce--rather sweet, like thick soy sauce and sugar boiled down and thickened with cornstarch. Don't know what else is in it.
  15. I agree--it was pretty rude to refuse the brownies, even if the combination sounded unusual to them. I still remember going to my kindergarten open house (I think I was only 4 years old at that point) and the teacher served us "ants on a log"--peanut butter spread on raw celery, with raisins on top. I had never had raw celery at this point. It was disgusting to me, and I just couldn't bring myself to swallow it. I felt sick. Still, I waited until the open house was over, and ran into the kitchen at home to spit it out. (I was always a shy kid so my mom didn't really notice that I hadn't said much during the whole afternoon). My mom was shocked that I had kept the half-chewed celery in my mouth for so long (probably at least an hour or two!) but she was proud that I wasn't rude enough to spit it out in front of the teacher.
  16. mdt: That walnut bread looks wonderful! Are you a professional baker?
  17. Brunch looks delicious, especially the pan fried potatoes.
  18. I just ate about 30 of those cream and jelly sandwich cookies. Those sure disappear quickly!
  19. I'm just starting my cookbook collection. I just ordered Slow Mediterranean Cooking, Baking with Julia, The Wisdom of the Chinese Kitchen and From Julia Child's Kitchen today. I only have perhaps 10 books in all.
  20. That's a beautiful galette. I'm really enjoying all the wonderful photos in this thread. I'm waiting for my Baking with Julia cookbook now, and I hope to be contributing to this thread when my finals are over and I have more time to bake!
  21. She could try macaroons.
  22. I like eggs with ketchup, and I like white rice with ketchup too (shhhh! ) So omuraisu sounds yummy to me.
  23. I think I picked one up a few months ago at Safeway.
