  1.   Does anyone else follow particular “food” based Instagram accounts? I follow most of the restaurants local to me in Morristown, NJ along with most celebrity food chefs. “FoodBaby”, while a bit cheesy is cute as hell. I only very occasionally post food to my personal Instagram but does anyone else post their meals regularly? If not can anyone recommend favorite food related accounts?

I certainly agree, my point is that is just the cost of doing business so included in the price of the meal. Don't fool people with a lower price on the menu and then tack on surcharges to cover either items. If it costs you $X to cover food, salaries and benefits so be it, but that price on the menu.

Every time I’ve dined out in SF, which was daily for a week recently, the surcharge was listed on the menu.

  3. I’ll be at the Hamilton Princess for 5 nights or so in early August as my husband has a business trip there and that’s the hotel they’re putting us up in. We are adding a few days to the trip.

I haven’t been to Bermuda since I was a kid so I don’t know what to expect besides Island prices. Any “must go to” restaurants? The hotel recently opened a Marcus Samuelson restaurant.

  4. My mother was and is a good baker and Home cook.

That said, my birthday is on St. Patrick’s Day. I loooved Carvel ice cream as a kid. I was scared of the owner of the local store for some reason but Carvel ice cream cakes are a thing in NJ.

Instead of getting a Cookie Puss  or Fudgy the Whale cake, I got a “Cookie  O Puss” for my birthday. I favored the frosting and vanilla/ mint chocolate ice cream parts with the cookie crunchies. I told my husband all about this. I hope he listened!

I re-use large trash can bags. Most of our recycle goes to the curb in the blue recycle barrels. I keep aluminum cans and California CRV plastic bottles and recycle those for my "booze slush fund." I store up those items, until I have $20+ dollars worth to turn in, in the large trash bags.

A bit bewildered by the recycling in CA having to be in a bag. Seems like more waste.

I'll have to read through this from the very beginning later, but a recent flight on *gag* United made me pleasantly surprised since that airline is known for costcutting as a way of life. It was an early morning flight from NOLA to SFO and we had a choice of hot breakfast sandwiches ... in economy, no less, along with the usual selection of fruit juices, coffee and tea.

Perhaps it's to compete with Delta which seems to have stepped up their food service game in recent years. I recall a flight from SFO to JFK last year where they literally showered us with food for the entire duration of the trip - from lunch to snacks which included ice cream bars and fruit. I can only imagine what the folks in business class and first class receive.

United has done a lot to upgrade the service from SFO and EWR.

That said, I flew first/business/ whatever class it is that has the fully reclining seats from SFO to EWR a week and a half ago and will do the return trip in a few days.

The meals were ok. They did offer a lot of snacks.  You can kind of make out the menu from this picture. The bedding was nice— from Saks. They always serve a sundae as a dessert. That’s gotten old, IMO.

  7. The fruit back at home in NJ isn’t local yet.

But I’m in Northern CA for a bit and the strawberries are fantastic!! The corn is decent too.

SOOOO......pickle slushies are now available.  Anyone near a Sonic and want to take one for the team?  I would but the nearest one for me is in Totowa...

I would too— I don’t get why one hasn’t come to Morris County yet. I almost want to franchise one.

Sore spot for me. My older brother lives in Chicago and has often bragged that there are more than a thousand restaurants within walking distance from his front door. My response: There is only one restaurant within a twenty minute drive from mine, a pizza place, and they don't deliver.

I'm glad I learned to cook!

This looks like Dominos to me... am I wrong? @robinstx

I live  in Northern NJ and can get great pizza from local places within an hour.

  10. I am SO jealous. I have a raised bed from the former home owners but between the chipmunks and rabbits (which aren’t scared of my dopey dog as she ignores them) and the deer it seems like I’d be wasting time unless I got a professional in to help me start.

  11. I literally cannot even begin to handle the negative thoughts on this thread.

My mom used to sing me this Beatles song which is the title of this thread when I was about 5 or 6 and she would let me put hair mousse on my face like a beard.

      I’m now 38, my mom is 68.

I think it’s remarkable how well people are aging lately and consider it a blessing. I also agree with all of you that when it’s the end? Or close to? Give your loved ones exactly what they want. My father had a quadruple bypass at 54– it was some congenital issue (I should likely look into) and his diet was excellent. And still is— he’s allergic to all polultry and rarely eats red meat so he eats a lot of seafood. But when he wanted a scotch or a glass of wine once he was home? Damn right I gave it to him. And that was 16 years ago.

We are all aging. It’s not depressing to recognize it and talk about how each of us would like to eat. Or what we’d like to eat. I find it interesting. Getting older doesn’t mean a lack of a palate or lack of patience and eating shit food.

(By negative thoughts I meant the ones that are not readily viewable).
