  1. My Californian husband hasn’t been north of Boston. I’d love to do a food centric road trip up to Maine and back within 4 days. Is this realistic? Should we fly to Portland or Bangor and drive down instead or just driving?

I’m looking to eat lots of lobsters, both types of lobster rolls, fried clam bellies, clam pizza and anything else recommended.  I’m going to research a few non chain hotels to mix in with two or so chain hotels. We have a lot of points with Hilton.

Mostly I’d like to show him Rhode Island (I went to PC), Newport, I haven’t been to Maine for 25 year, and CT that isn’t Foxwoods. That was rough.

If you are using it as  dipping sauce that might make sense  to try but otherwise for cooking I am happy with my Kikkoman. The one made in Japant that also has a touch of alcohol. I am out so no photo.

I love soy sauce so if anyone could link to higher quality brands they’ve enjoyed, I’d appreciate it.

Oddly enough, I had a Kikkoman sauce sauce packet in my kitchen drawer I used recently for sushi and it tasted strongly of alcohol. To the point where I was really turned off and most things with alcohol don’t bother me. I’m assuming it was old and fermented.

Jack Dorsey, CEO/founder of Twitter, in an interview said he used to go to Zuni everyday for lunch. That would be so cool if you saw him or another famous tech nerd from the money  start-up community there

I’d never recognize them. My husband would— we were there for him to go to a national CISO meeting.

If I had that type of time or money when I worked I’d eat at Zuni daily too!

  4. Dinner at the Hog Island Oyster Company in the Oxbow Market in Napa.

I had a couple orders of grilled oysters. Probably one of the best things I’ve had during this trip.  One order was Chipotle Bourbon and the other was Margarita. I used their phenomenal bread to soak up the juices.

My husband had the oyster po’ boy.

  5. After Zuni tonight, I’m on my own tomorrow (husband has a work dinner). I’m thinking I may try the Liholilo Yacht Club as a walk in. Loving the restaurants here and looking forward to Napa tastings.

  6. Oh man what a meal. My husband and I literally didn’t look or talk to each other for 10 minutes after the chicken arrived.

We started off with a bunch of local oysters I neglected to photograph. We split a bottle of their house Pinot Noir, the chicken and a half order of their fries:

  7. My main was the lobster from the seafood selection. My husband has the duck and loved it. My main was excellent. We drank a Pinot Nior from Williamete Valley with these dishes. I was FULL. But I loved this because I can’t eat a lot but I love being able to eat more than one dish. My husband finished with the chocolate soufflé and they gave me a birthday passion fruit cake/ sorbet. It was good.  I’d go back.

  8. We didn’t take a picture of the risotto because it was too good. I was angry at myself when the table next to me asked to take a picture because they’d forgotten.

I had the Dungeness crab salad from the appetizer menu. It was good. Not great. My husband had the tuna from the seafood menu:

Hmmm, I just timed my 800XL Pro's (my third one, BTW) preheat time from room temp to 400F.  It's almost exactly 5 minutes.  I'll have to time my fullsize oven when I get back from the cabin,, but I don't think it takes a lot longer than that.

I also find adjusting and withdrawing the racks (other than the middle one fitted with the magnet) to be a semi-hazardous PITA.  And don't get me started about that funky thumbwheel mode knob or the long toast times.

I’m sorry, I’m probably reading this wrong. But are you saying you have a full sized oven that reaches 400 degrees F in five minutes?

If I could get good, or even good enough, sushi where I live without having to make it myself, I would have no need to think about or plan a Super Bowl menu. :D

We get pretty good sushi here. I usually order it from here:

    https://www.sushiloungenj.com/

and I usually order the optimistic roll, the fantasy roll  and the whatever appeals to me.

But my friend is doing a taco bar so... I’m unsure about the combo. I’ll check in with her tomorrow. I could always do a bunch of charcuterie instead.

@MetsFan5  Thanks for the idea of the puff pastry appetizer.  I have a sheet of puff pastry in the freezer so I think I'll try this.  Can't see trying to sprinkle the garlic and herbs over it though, probably easier to just mix it with the tomato sauce.  I too would prefer mozzarella.

Edited to add: I bet puff pastry topped with muffaletta mix wouldn't go amiss either.

I think it’s really versatile. I’m considering  baking the puff pastry (I use Pepperidge Farms) then topping it with scrambled eggs, breakfast sausage, cheese and a drizzle (or spoon fulls) of hollandaise.

  12. I think Danko will win out over Zuni, since Zuni is open for lunch. I’ll be solo most days (3) so if any local members are down to have a nice long boozy lunch let me know! 😗

I’m still eying Lilholo Yatch Club since it’s basically next to my hotel.  Weee spending two nights in Napa, one we should probably eat then sleep before a day long tour and the one to have dinner after a tour. We will be right in downtown Napa. Is Morimoto worth it? Does anyone recommend an Italian place to soak up the wines on Friday night?  I’m down to Uber.
