  1. Bradley is quite coy when it comes to giving new customers a taste of their products. Packs that come with new units often say something like "Bradley's mix' or something similarly vague. One word of caution-Cherry is quite a strong wood-not for fish at all IMO.
  2. Is Soupspoons on 4th across from Capers under? Looked to be closed today when I cruised by but as it was raining there was no stopping to investigate.
  3. As always a dozen or so in a bottle of Vodka-to be kept in the freezer for 'emergencias'-is a unique and trustworthy pick-me-up.
  4. LMFAO!!! That was Me! I knew the end was near when I read on the menu about the 'vegetarian Tuna' dish.
  5. What about Dinnerworks on 3rd @ Pine just east of Quince-is it open?
  6. Been there/done that-it's tough because you're still suffering trauma and need sustenance. Dried soup dolled up with whatever-the precut veggies are great. Boiled eggs with toast. Porridge never tasted so good even for supper. My fave was steamed fish, rice and sliced tomatoes. As days go by you'll become more confident and chopping food will be less of challenge. Best Wishes for an uncomplicated recovery.
  7. Fabulous Idea! A unique destination restaurant and once the new Stadium is built the sky's the limit. Let's hope he pulls it off! I've transited the place so many times over the years-even caught a train to the Interior there once The most memorable eatery I ever recall was Franks for The Memories.
  8. Terra Breads has a white Chocolate/Blueberry foccacia. They also have a Biscoiti with some Chocolate but no Chocolate Bread of any kind
  9. Yes indeed you are correct I meant Pane from Heaven. Considering that's where I bought breakfast 2 days in a row you'd think I would know the name.
  10. The End Of An Era-First Ave Bread Garden Gone Forever Well that it's a tiny piece of city history has bit the dust the First Ave Bread Garden is gone. Whether done in by changing tastes or (IMO) gross mismanagement the 'hood will never be the same. I could see it coming when the unspeakably dumb dorks in charge 'renovated' 2 years ago-totally idiocy in design.Someone somewhere just didn't understand that when an operation treats it's customers like sh*t on a shoe bad things happen. Just to add insult to injury the avaricious clods who ran the place jacked the price on my favourite Banana Chocolate Muffins a month before closing-is that callous or what? Sigh..... Of course 'it's an ill wind.....' the nearby well regarded Eco Il Pane is jammed as always good on them they are a decent operation who treat their customers well excellent products for fair prices-may they prosper mightily.
  11. You wish! I'm reminded of the Mayor of Atlanta Georgia who finally admitted-halfway through that notorious debacle-that everyone wasn't going to get rich/buy a new house~spouse.Quite the opposite for many in fact. Quite agree except for that last grease wagon-send it to Surrey.
  12. Indigenous people here in BC have been using Red Cedar planks to grill fish beside an open fire for thousands and thousands of years and I have yet to hear of one of them having complications from ingesting turpentine. Now if a person was to eat the wood your POV might have some scientific validity but as posted is nonsense.
  13. Hey I remember staggering outta that place-wasn't half bad either!
  14. Lots of internet info but for something truly unique try Smoked Popcorn. Place 1 cup of popping corn kernels on a screen then smoke for 30 minutes. Place kernels in air tight jar with 1 tsp apple juice and 1 tsp rum-leave for one week for liquid to be absorbed then pop as normal. Liquid can be adapted to your own tastes some like it sweet some like it hot.
  15. I applaud the actions of the employees and support them unreservedly. Affixing their names publicly as they did shows guts and solidarity, the attention their action has generated has no doubt made other sweat shop employers think twice-as planned. The smug/haughty attitudes as shown by some of the less experienced by still opinionated respondents to this thread are IMO regrettable. Their callous and uncaring attitudes are the grit that breaks down successful operations and reduces business to nothing more than marks in a ledger with humans relegated to the trash heap-thus accelerating the rate of social decay. (BTW-if you think that's a mouthful you should see me when I'm angry)
  16. A recent drop in the price of Bell Peppers led me to experiment Roasted Red peppers mashed with lemon, garlic, chile, salt produced a very tasty dish. Now Yellow peppers and Green ones look even more appealing-how to proceed to produce 3 different coloured dips? I was thinking for all Yellow -maybe ginger, curry powder-what else? Would sesame oil be overkill? Green Peppers-certainly Jalapeños for kick, minced onion and.....? Any/all relevant info/comment/opinion much appreciated TIA
  17. As someone who knows what Crabs will eat-any damned thing at all -I caution anyone contemplating eating bug guts not to do so. Just don't-OK? some rather mixed reviews of the aforementioned restaurant

A few thoughts... Here in BC we have Scomber Japonicus variety Mackerel and you can't give them away. They do make excellent Crab/Prawn bait though. I'm struck by how small the whole fish being sold in Europe are. No one here would buy a fish that small and no fish market would stock it. Spoiled rotten? Could be....
  19. Here in British Columbia-home of smoked Salmon of multitudinous varieties-Bradley is considered King. Not just for ease of use but because the units are so well engineered However No you cannot use anything but Bradley Bisquettes-or pucks as they are known here.
  20. As per the above Bad News-these folks are no longer coming to town I do my share in a local Sushi Bar in terms of Oysters but as the stomach ages filter feeders sometimes prove to be a tad rich
  21. OK I admit to be a drunk and hungry when I posted
  22. Great looking Basmati! But as per Johnny's question it isn't any different than what I've been making in a cheap pot on top of my stove for almost 30 years. The washing you can skip if you buy a quality brand.
  23. That site is very cagey about giving out an address. Either it's strictly warehouse or a backroom operation of an existing store who want to keep the operations separate. I've had a look at their site in the past and never found anything I couldn't find a good deal cheaper in existing stores.
