Last Day Tomorrow!!!!!!

Matt while I understand what you're saying from time to time a person is reminded that the world outside can be a dark scary place. We are fortunate to live in a wealthy secure country and enjoy freedoms to express ourselves in many ways on many subjects. It wasn't always thus and may not always be thus. Being warm cuddly and collegial is fine-a few degrees of separation is even more comfortable for some. EDIT-as to the original question my sig line has it's origins in an ancient argument on just this subject-not pursued covertly but open shilling by a well known Forum poster. That individual has since ceased to be so brassy but I've kept the line in remembrance.

I believe it was called the Top Quality Thali or something like that-the more expensive (relatively speaking) of the 2 Thali options. Lots of other items on the menu that were very appealing.
-
On the strength of Anchoress' recommendation I stopped by and had a quick lunch @ Best Quality today-it's all she says it is and more. The food is sublime/ambrosial and a bargain at twice the price. If Indian food interests you at all this is a place you must try.

BC Hothouse Chilies: Lotsa Burn/Bite for The Buck!
Sam Salmon replied to a topic in Western Canada: Cooking & Baking
Yes those are the ones-excellent flavour lotsa bite. There are some drying as I speak-dunno if it'll work as they are somewhat 'meaty' but at that price making a Ristra isn't all that risky. -
There's a Tojo's thread here Tsunami as mentioned is laughable-and that's being polite about it-avoid at all costs. Close to downtown is a favourite of mine

How very true. People @ work are amazed at the fact that I cook Cornbread to eat for breakfast/lunch the first day of my work week. Cornbread FCS? I sometimes wonder when I wander through food stores how people from other societies would view all the prepackaged goods-whether they would recognise them as edible-certainly I often don't.

One of my pet peeves re:produce here in BC has been the astronomical price charged for Chiles. Considering how easy the plant is to grow/how low maintenance it is the price has always seemed way out of line to me. 3 weeks ago @ the Nat Bailey Market one well known vendor from the Interior tried to charge me $C4.00 for 100 grams of Chile-outright robbery IMO-so I just said "no way too much" and skulked away. Finally though we have an alternative-have had for a while it's just that I haven't paid attention. Today a Broadway greengrocer had 454 grams of prime recently picked Hothouse Chile on special for $C1.29. Some is being simmered into a pot of Rice n' Beans now and the bite is on!!(so to speak) Yes I know there are 'issues' involved food politics are never ending but maybe these prices will show locals that there's some money to be made but that Chile isn't the gold mine some think it is. Or maybe not. Maybe people here don't eat Chile enough and don't care-maybe this really is the Great While Land of Bland it oten appears to be. Time will Tell.....

Try contacting Forstbauer Farm if they don't have it they may know someone who does. Not a common item in stores but some people do grow it wish I could remember where I've seen it. -
Well I have no horse in this race but I do know that Bad News Sells! Newspapers are struggling with competition from 'New Media Sources' aka the net so they've decided to 'address the problem directly' as it were

In BC we have a 'Best Before' date-much easier to determine if the product is going to be consumed before then. 'Sell By' has an onerous sound and IMM denotes "dump this ASAP"

My head hurts! Isn't the legendary Al Watan in that 'hood somewhere?
-
I've followed this thread with interest-my 'hood is replete with veggie options of many varieties but only the ones with strong ethnic roots are worth the time IMO. For instance today I had a wonderful bike ride with an old friend, being Fall we were a bit chilled so she suggested a bowl of soup in a tiny veggie café. The soup there in the past has been excellent but of late less than worth wile however since her heart was set on the place I concurred. As mentioned in many posts here the product was distinctive only in terms of what was left out. Rarely have Lentils and Split Peas played a smaller role in soup named after them-the product was pap. Never again!

This place is a winner

3005 W Broadway-old Sausi's location. Sign says 'Coming Soon Banana Leaf'.
-
Nope not even close
-
Are they still around?
-
Their attendance is somewhat sporadic-I supposed that has something to do with having a business/life some hours drive away. They'll be back and you'll see the product-it ain't like no other.

1. How often do you sharpen your knives?2.What method do you use to do so? A few passes with a DMT Diamond Hone-the fine/red one every usage or so. Water stone a couple times a year. This thread reminds me of a sharpening steel that hasn't been used for ages.

A new chocolate place on GI-not the market-is said to be in the works.
