  1. Gaya Rive Gauche already has a star from last year. Spring will be closed I think for the next four months , if not longer ...
  2. The Tour d'Argent went downhill way before the death of its owner. Taillevent is not in the same boat. They have a dedicated and professional team who will carry on in the memory of Vrinat, as he would have wanted it.
  3. Passed away yesterday morning. RIP.
  4. Didn't really understand the dog reference..
  5. Probably enjoy it even less at more than 2000€!
  6. I've always been able to get a table at the last minute- luckily it's never been insanely busy when I go.
  7. Breizh Café is a great place. Funny story, too, about him starting out in Brittany, marrying a Japanese gal , then opening a bunch of creperies in Japan , before eventually coming to Paris. The ciders are worth mentionning as well, as they have a fine selection, by bowl or bottle...It's funny how some of the best crepes in Paris are made by Japanese staff...
  8. I thought the Ritz New Year's Eve menu was a famous 2007€ .....? Last year it was 2006€, and the year before 2005€........
  9. Not sure i'd include the Transversal in that list, as their stuff seems to be a large selection of choice produce and not a whole lot of experimentation, and far more trad than , say, Inaki's place...
  10. Why not google gridskipper's "Best Other Steak Frites in Paris"
  11. Unfortunately , with the proliferation of food blogs, the gastronomic landscape has been vastly changed, in many cases for the worse...interesting idea for an article...
  12. I miss their entertaining chef "profiles", that seemed to start and stop again with no reason...
  13. I guess "wasn't bad" cuts it for them... or maybe Afaria is just too new...anyone here read and got comments on the new fooding guide? I'd agree about Afaria, Fresh, as I've stated here, but 6 months ago, on that side of the stream, Le Grand Pan twasn't bad. ←
  14. Quite a surprise that Le Grand Pan won. There are much better, such as Afaria. My recent visit to Le Grand Pan was fine, but nothing special. But Afaria was far superior in every way.
  15. As far as I know, the Gagnaire people don't consider Sketch a "real" gastronomic. Their words (in private).
  16. I'm hardly surprised. I deal with L'Ambroisie on a regular basis, and would NEVER suggest it to anyone- first of all for the difficulty in getting a table in their tiny dining room, secondly for the arrogance of the maitre d' (I know EXACTLY who the person is, BTW). They are definitely old school in the bad way (in terms of attitude..)
  17. Ptipois, Indeed. If you've been paying attention, most of the things I say are without interest, and have already been said elsewhere. I never took her up on it though, because I like to be incognito and pay my own meals. Not that I have to explain myself though...
  18. It's for sure they keep a lot of tables on the side, as Mme Cambdeborde (after I wrote an article on them at their opening) told me, that if I ever needed a table to give her a weeks notice and she'd take care of it..
  19. I don't understand what Pennsylvania cheesemakers have to do in this story....
  20. One very annoying aspect of living abroad....not getting to see shows like this.....anyone have a copy????? Especially of anything with Luisa?..
  21. Just came back from Biarritz last weekend. Great. Everything was perfect. From the Palais to the cote boeuf on the mountaintop. Can't believe it was the first time I went...Pix on my blog..
  22. Since I first started this topic, some 10,000+ posts later - is the Comptoir still relevant? I find there are so many more interesting places out there, and so many less touristy places...I mean, I'll go to the Relais if I miss braying New Yorkers saying how great the "paté" is.... (right)
