  1. Thanks all! See, Pan doesn't know this because he had some incredibly important things to do for your potluck night, Suzanne.
  2. I just copied this from the eGci thread. I started a starter last week, and will have much to give away at the NJ potluck in a couple of weeks, if anyone wants some (or meet me here in NYC). I used organic red grapes as the yeast source, water and flour, and that's it. PM me if you want some in a couple of weeks when it's stronger.
  3. I have no suggestions, but DANG it all, that sounds good. Actually, there's a place in Bloomfield around the PNC building called Nicole's Cafe. It's a really sweet place, but I don't know if they serve breakfast. Eclectic it is. I sell them my leftover cookies after the farmer's market on Thursdays. Well, I would if I had any left....
  4. HELLO???
  5. I haven't had a chance to read the thread yet, but I started a starter last week, and will have much to give away at the NJ potluck in a couple of weeks, if anyone wants some (or meet me here in NYC). 6. Heeheeheehee. My little sister (known as "20-20" because when her teacher said, "Kristen Butler, what's your IQ?!" she stood up and said emphatically, "Twenny twenny!") was roasting her first chicken. She called up Mama to ask how it was done, and meantime was cleaning out the cavity. "Mama, something's in here!" Mom said, "Honey, that's the giblets and organs." Krissy sounded so disappointed. "Oh. I thought I won something."
  7. The bread.
  8. Or, you could try putting a baking soda and water paste on the spots and letting them hang out for a while wetting them when they dry out. Baking soda is an amazing thing to me.
  9. Well thank you tommy. I should have showed you the plain oatmeal cookies. They were practically raw in the center. I didn't even get to have one, damn it. I'm still mad at you though.
  10. No, herb, technically, no. Rachel, things picked up by the end of the day, so it turned out okay. I did have to take some stuff home, but just a tiny bit.
  11. Okay, checking in. Sold out last week an hour before the market closed, so that was nice. Made extra this week, so hopefully... well hopefully I'll sell out again, but I'll have more to sell out of. Anyway, I'll have pao de queijo samples again and carrot muffins along with pecan pies and lots of cookies. And bread. And that's all. Maybe. Bye!
  12. I remember seeing something on Good Eats about the Scoville tests, and spraying the mouth with sugar water before the next test.
  13. Cat hair.
  14. Welcome to eGullet! A conversation I just had with a woman I know made me wonder what cookie types might be typical in soul food. I recently started a baking venture, and cookies are a large part of it. The more interesting variations, the better!

    Dulce de Leche

    Fondue.
  16. Cinnamon Cap? Jeez. Doesn't ring a bell. I remember the ice cream was fab though. As was your sweet potato sorbet etc. etc.. That day really opened my eyes.
  17. Chilis?
  18. Ask for a ride...?
  19. Sometimes I like to shred money into my chocolate chip cookies. Friends tell me to use regular paper and some lint, but I can taste the difference. I wonder if Plugra has a website with recipes.
  20. You must get some almond tequila.

    Roasting a Chicken

    Duck.
  22. I wouldn't bother with anything other than things that really show off the butter, like pound cake, Bretton butter cake, or shortbread. You know, buttery stuff.
  23. Mark, (should I call you Mark, or =Mark?) several hot sauces I've tried have a metallic taste to me. Tapatio is one of them. What is it? This is why I prefer Frank's. Besides, I love vinegar!
